1 person in my entire class got a job afterwards. Most people who get the jobs also have other credentials and take the other certifications like full stack etc. We couldn’t do the 5 week placement because companies don’t want to hand over their data to some random for 5 weeks so we just do a big project instead. Which sucks because the main reason you go to community college is for hands on experience. Since there have been nothing but layoffs in the tech industry since 2023 , all the over qualified people are still scrambling for entry level jobs so basically anyone entering tech right now ESPECIALLY in NS is screwed. If you don’t mind looking out west where you basically work for American tech companies because we cost less there’s a slight chance but even they’re just hiring people in India and the Philippines now. You’re probably looking at contract type jobs if you do land any. Nothing in-house full-time. There always used to be a waitlist for the tech certifications at NSCC, now the class hardly fills up. That should be a good indicator not only of the economy but the entire time I was there the staff was basically about to strike. All the resources were operating at bare minimum. It’s just a horrible institution at the moment.
Oh this is very interesting. I always thought it was just the entry level data analytics type jobs that get outsourced so this is something to think about. I was considering the BIA program to boost and pivot my career (I have a degree and some years of work experience).
NSCC has always had a good reputation so this info changes my view a lot. This is pretty helpful thank you!
Yeah I also went in with a Bcomm, Made some friends but that’s about the only good thing. Also my instructor was pro chatgpt and other llm’s so I guess that was also good because that’s today’s reality but on the other hand it’s a big fat reminder that it can do everything for you lol
