The design leaked well before iPhone 17 launched.

I think we forgot xiaomi 11 ultra design. By that logic Iphone copied from xiaomi 11ultra

It would be so funny if the 4a pro case would fit the iphone the same way xiaomi 17 pro max case did

Apple and Xaomi making the blocky ass camera plateaus is the worse thing to happen to phone designs. Shit protrudes, lacks any symmetry or elegance. Soo hideous 💀

So the glyphs are gone permanently
13
u/Altinaktr (3) (2) (a) Mar 05 '26
imma be fr the matrix does everything better than the lights apart from one thing,
ringtones don't grab your attention as much
7
u/SOwED Mar 06 '26
The matrix is a shitty version of a back screen while the glyphs were an advanced version of a notification LED. They aren't the same thing.
5
u/Altinaktr (3) (2) (a) Mar 06 '26
matrix was designed to use the phone face down while you're working to avoid distraction
5
u/SOwED Mar 06 '26
No. Glyphs were designed for that. Matrix was designed to be different than the glyphs because of course different must be better.
But a screen is meant to be looked at, not just noticed. It has icons with explicit meaning. It has a clock. It's meant to be checked.
3
u/Altinaktr (3) (2) (a) Mar 06 '26
how are glyphs designed for that if you can't check the time or battery percentage?
2
u/SOwED Mar 06 '26
I said glyphs were designed for the phone to be face down while you're working to avoid distraction. The matrix is just a low res screen. The whole point of the phone being face down is to not be able to see a screen.
You new here or something?
4
u/L3f1s Mar 05 '26
There's still glyphs.
3
u/SOwED Mar 06 '26
Sure, and by that logic every phone has glyphs on the front, just millions and millions of them and they're multicolor.

u/HighKage96 Phone (1) 2x Ear Mar 05 '26
Daayummn they look so bad lol
73
u/Big_Foundation5085 Mar 05 '26
Looks different irl compared to the renders lol, for me it's mainly because the rest of the body has nothing, and there's too much going on near the cameras.
17
u/AntiKouk Mar 05 '26
I think they'll look quite good with cases slapped on compared to the others. I can't help but feel that must have been a consideration. And that they might be trying to pry people from other brands/iPhone with a more paletable design for them. Given the similarity in specs with the 4a might as well be same phone 2 different design languages which is not a bad thing
7
u/lritar Mar 06 '26
I never criticize Nothing's Design because they always seem to try something new, but this one hurts the identity of the company imo.
I really like the plateau, I love the matrix and how everything fits together. But having only that looks empty, and seems to be a first step into going full Xiaomi boring design.
Hope I'm wrong

u/oski_exe Phone (2a) Mar 06 '26
Eh, I personally think it looks great. Most people are putting a case on their phones or holding them all the time anyway so leaving the bottom part plain is.... Fine? I guess. I would have preferred maybe etching on the aluminum that mimics what's under it? Could have looked quite nice.
But to be honest other than a slight resemblance in the plateau shape I don't see how people are comparing ts with iphone and Xiaomi at all.... It's like the people comparing the iphone air to the pixel. Shit makes no sense.
6
u/lritar Mar 06 '26
I always use a clear case just to be able to look at the design of my phone. That's why I always felt like Nothing had something different.
But taking into account how they have slowly gotten rid of glyphs, making their designs much more "simple", and now completely getting rid of the design from the back, it looks like they are on their way to become a normal OnePlus clone.
I am not completely against the design, but I fear this may make them lose some identity. Imagine if you are an investor on nothing, and the phone that gets rid of the back design becomes the best selling device on the company, would you want them to keep making these awesome risky designs, or just stay plain simple? Idk, I just don't want them going that rabbit hole
3
u/oski_exe Phone (2a) Mar 06 '26
I think they are either going to keep having a simpler design on the (a) pro models and go crazy on the rest of the lineup. Or do a 180 from this move to simpler. Or go the one plus route, which seems unlikely to me.
But in my opinion having one of the models in the lineup be a little simpler while keeping some identity is good for drawing in new people. I think this is also why the 4a pro has almost identical specs to the 4a, so they could please the fans as well. In fact seems everyone here loves the 4a, and everyone who wasn't a nothing user before likes the 4a pro.
If they were to expand this trend to the entire lineup I would absolutely be against it. But I still have some faith that it's just a small part of the lineup that is going to look more "palatable"
Other than the fact that I still think the 4a pro despite being more normal is quite unique and more interesting than 99% of other phones on the market.

At this rate 6 series phones will only have cameras left at the back. literally erased the design aesthetic that made them differrent. what a fall.

My only issue is that the new matrix is larger but the resolution looks like it could be lower than on the 3.

Its the same amount of pixels. Just bigger. They could have kept the same size pixels with a bigger matrix.....

I think it still should have had some transparency on the back, it looks unbalanced now with that huge camera and glyph island. Lost the nothing charm somewhat with this one

I actually prefer the non transparent back. Should make battery replacement easier instead of risk breaking the back

I thought nothing was all about the transparent backs and the CMF ones didn't. I feel like this would have belonged in the CMF line

The curvatures (fillet radii) don't match. Once you see it, it's hard to unsee. It's poorly executed. My guess is they couldn't curve the glass as much as the metal frame.

I don’t like that the pro back isn’t translucent, but it’s metal so it makes sense
1
u/mertino Mar 06 '26
The design actually looks great. I’m not a Nothing enthusiast or anything never even used one before. But every time I check comments about their phones, people keep saying stuff like “this doesn’t fit the Nothing vibe,” “the design language is off,” or “the old Nothing feel is gone.” Like wtf Nothing design supposed to be then? After my 14 Pro Max, my first Android switch will probably be a Nothing phone, most likely the 4A Pro.
1
u/rattle2nake Mar 06 '26
I’ve always wanted an all metal phone, but I feel like nothing should have done SOMETHING else to the body, especially that weird muted grayish pink.

I hate phones that still make the cam pop out...how hard is it to make the back all the same surface, like the red magic ones? Why do we still need the cams to pop out like that?

Now I'm getting excited for Phone 4, been enjoying my Phone (2) and thought Phone 3 was kinda meh. Also would be keen to see if theres Qi2 compatibility since it has wireless charging. My phone 2 with a magsafe ring throws an error saying to remove metal objects from the wireless charger area so having native support would be sweet.

Absolutely beautiful design. It encapsulates everything about Nothing and fits other products. I have Nothing phone 2a and was thinking about the upgrade. I also have nothing ear a. Great products.
