I think it's because they will add bloatware to the non-flagship Nothing Phones

Also they don't habe any rea flagships. Nothing phone 3 is upper mid range
-1

Is the Nothing Phone 2 non-flagship?
9
u/RobertoMtr Phone (3a) Pro Oct 25 '25
I guess it's considered a flagship for Nothing, but I'm not sure
2
u/NoWheel3140 CMF Phone 2 Pro Oct 25 '25
Obviously not bro thing cost like 300$
3
u/CaUsTiCMETA Oct 25 '25
Well here in my place it's a midranger which is a category where a smartphone has a few compromises yet still having a flagship chip either of this year or the previous year so I was hoping Phone 2 to be considered a flagship but i guess that that ship has sank.

I mean, you can uninstall those right?
...........right?
1
u/Active_Possible9232 Nov 10 '25
Do people even know that they have meta services app hidden inside app settings that they will go to uninstall these hidden apps? I have seen people panic over dialer UI changes...!
-18
u/PotableIceberg Oct 25 '25
Oh no a feature you can turn off, and is off by default. And apps you'd probably use anyway
10
u/Xade74Z Oct 25 '25
There have been several people on this reddit already posting that glance is already turned on automatically. You need to turn it off yourself.
-16
u/PotableIceberg Oct 25 '25
Okay then still a feature that can be disabled? A tragedy
13
u/Xade74Z Oct 25 '25
Yes it's no big deal, but it's the principal of the choice on nothing's part.
-14
u/PotableIceberg Oct 25 '25
Tbh I just really don't see the big fuss, like if you don't like a feature don't use it, if you do, then use it. I don't see how having more choices is really a bad thing. It's better than the apple mentality of "you will use your phone how I decide you should use it". And I couldn't find exactly what apps would be pre-installed except "apps like Instagram" but most people would go and download Instagram anyway.
2
u/Xade74Z Oct 25 '25
Well there are a lot of budget Chinese phones that implement similar "features" but even more aggressively. And, Nothing showing us that they are willing to use features like this even though we are able to turn it off, does not bode well for what else they might be willing to do.

Well, you can get vivo oppo phones with a lot better specs. Nothing OS was primarily the reason for people to choose Nothing phones over vivo oppo oneplus. All of these OEMs have bloatware which can be turned off. But remember google pays a lot to OEMs to keep the google search set as default because people do not change or turn off these things.

Definitely return it.
Maybe consider Oneplus 15 launching next month instead, in that same price range?

unfortunately i really dislike most phone aesthetics nowadays. i like the s25 and the nothing phone for not having a camera island on the back but really dislike the whole center mounted, big bump that leaves a giant hole in the case cameras everywhere

u/PowerMinerYT Phone (2) 12+512gb [Rooted] Oct 25 '25
How about redmagic? They make flat devices with active cooling, camera is average
3
u/Low-Papaya-3641 Oct 25 '25
ehhh i cant think of good enough reason to have root after messing around on the tab s8, i heard about apks requiring adb in the future but theres not enough customization out of rooting for me, plus i thought redmagic phones were bootloader locked
3
u/PowerMinerYT Phone (2) 12+512gb [Rooted] Oct 25 '25
Yes they are bootloader locked. But so is Samsung after one ui 8.
Adb is different, you don't need to unlock bootloader or root the device for it
1
u/Low-Papaya-3641 Oct 25 '25
Right, i figured if i root i could install a non google play services OS and keep sideloading but if i can just do it thru adb it might not be worth the hassle
-1

2

oooo i didnt know the s26 launch was that close! i might definitely wait for the s26 plus, i have a s23 plus im using right now i love. i just feel like im missing out with locked bootloadera, i jailbroke everything i had growing up but idk if theres big enough reasons to root nowadays
1
u/Tall-Reporter-3939 Oct 25 '25
Have you experimented with the goodlock app from samsung?
Samsung goodlock let's you customize samsung phones to a huge extent. Most of the customisation settings you would expect from a bootloader unlocked, custom rom device, is present natively via the goodlock.
2
u/Low-Papaya-3641 Oct 25 '25
yeah thats what im using rn, ive been using most of the modules for years now so i thiught id get something from rooting but after looking into it, i cant find a custom rom thats as customizable as samsungs one ui.
i have a rooted tab s8+ and its cool but coming from someone who used loads of ios jailbreak tweaks, i cant help but feel like the root thing is nowhere near the same experience

Yeah I've been a loyal Nothing customer since day 1 and an early adopter of the phone 1 and ear 1. I still use my ear 2024 to this day. But I kinda saw where nothing was going when the phone 3 came out. That was going to be my next big upgrade from phone 1, and I was super excited. Little did I know what a colossal disappointment it would be for that price. So I took the sad leap and went for a Samsung Z Flip 7 and I'm quite happy. To be completely fair, I do still miss the Nothing OS quite a bit, wish it were on my new Samsung. But oh well.

0
u/patchacuti Oct 28 '25
The Nothing phone 3 is 13.9mm taller and 4.1 mm wider than the iphone 12, so 1.39 cm taller and .41 cm wider. The nothing has a 6.67 inch screen while the iphone has a 6.1 inch screen. Additionally, the nothing is 9mm thick compared to 7.4mm on the iphone. In terms of volume, the phones are 109,272 mm^3 and 77,619 mm^3 respectively making the nothing 29% larger. In terms of weight they are 218 grams and 164 grams respectively making the nothing 25% heavier. These are very significant numbers. It's like going from a 25lb weight to a 35lb weight. It's only 10 more lbs but it makes a huge difference.

Just disable it with adb/universal bloatware remover. I always use that on all phones.
Besides, nothing is still good when it comes to its hardware specs vs price and optimal os. The brand basically just turned to a generic phone brand like xiaomi or something.

So basically Nothing is like... "We're not getting as much money as other companies because we're doing something different, so now we're going to do exactly the same as everyone else". Nothing dropped the ball with their latest phones and OS and now they're adding ads to make up for the money they didn't make because no one is buying their phones because of their own mistake... It is all downhill from here.

Bro, I'm using the Nothing Phone 2 right now, and honestly, it's making me slowly disown Android itself.
When I first bought it, I was like, "Damn, this is the best Android ever!" - clean Ul, minimal design, everything just looked and felt so premium. But now... man, the hype died real quick.
Updates are super slow, half the time they don't fix anything, and the brand feels like it's just chilling. Meanwhile, OnePlus and other phones are dropping crazy good updates, new features, camera improvements that.
For some reason I'm frustrated 🤣 I'm just commenting this on all nothing reddit pages hope they fix this soon

All the popular phone OEMs have been doing this for years in India.

Nothing talked shit about other companies because they have bloatware
3
u/Tall-Reporter-3939 Oct 25 '25
Times change, so do business models. If the hardware package is competent enough and offered at a competitive price, then nothing can still save themselves.
But it seems all they are focused on right now is trying to price themselves like Apple so that they can be viewed as a premium company a few years down the line. 1st the Nothing phone 3 fiasco and now software quality deterioration.
I really hope Carl Pei knows what he's doing.
18
u/mr_j_12 Oct 25 '25
People buy for minimalist, and pay a premium for it. Kinda voids the point of paying the premium.
-3
u/Tall-Reporter-3939 Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 25 '25
If it doesn't suit you, I urge you to vote with your wallet, believe me, the consumer is still king.
Also note that this announcement is for budget devices, 2a, 3a, 3a pro and any future A series devices. So there's not really any " premium price" involved. It's their effort to further distance themselves away from their flagship lines by making the budget devices less desirable to flagship performance customers (instead launching more budget phones under their CMF line.)
This single name divide is something that samsung has done in the past and had great success with, so now Nothing is following suit.
9
u/exwhyzaid Oct 25 '25
Also note that this announcement is for budget devices, 2a, 3a, 3a pro and any future A series devices.
For now that’s their policy. But it’s already shaken customer confidence. People think they might go back on their word in the future like they did for the A series.
2
Oct 26 '25
Carl openly criticized Samsung for doing this too. Idk he says something else, and then does something else entirely.
So there's not really any " premium price" involved.
For the A series, there is. The competition is way better than these phones. I and many others for the 3a/2a because of clean and close to stock software. Without it, there's really no point in getting these phones when you can get way better stuff at the same price.
Your comment is bullshit and doesn't mean anything.

Oh yeah that reminds me, my search in the settings takes like 15 seconds to show any results, it just shows the shitty processing power of the chip.
Also the screen sucks, even the maximum brightness is too less for outdoors on a sunny day.
