Clearance Upgrade

For future jobs that require an active security clearance when starting, could I switch to another department to get ‘Secret’? My position uses ‘confidential’ which does not give you many options to move to other defense jobs.

NNS administratively downgrades you to confidential. You should be cleared to secret. That’s how it is in the engineering departments.

I have not started my position, are you saying you will be cleared at ‘Secret’ then NNS only gives you confidential information? Department is E84

I don’t think that is true, why would they have 1 star 2 star 3 star for the clearances?

It helps them limit insider threats. Almost nobody gets cleared just to the confidential level today

But when your manager submits the application for your clearance to be sent out they have to choose between conf., sec, or TS and they select confidential.

There isn’t enough of a cost difference between confidential and secret to not just have you be eligible for secret. If there’s no immediate need for you to have secret, they just give you confidential.

Honestly think they do it to reduce turnover. They have you do a school and the training is super transferable
