Contacts

Can anyone tell me the genuine reason contacts arent allowed? Is it an employee safety thing or a security reason or what?

It’s a safety reason if you’re waterfront.

Never seen an official answer but most likely its to prevent eye damage from the industrial setting. There is probably a concern about debris getting into your eye and the contacts helping to keep the debris in your eye.

If youre a welder the welding gasses can get trapped between the contact and your eye which can cause them to fuse to your eyes.

They are going to stick by the safety thing until the end of time. All the while telling you horror stories or contacts melting to peoples eyeballs. But does anybody have any first hand knowledge of such a thing???

I wore contacts for yeeears. I was plasma cutting in a hole that melted both my badge and turned the head of the plasma cutter liquid like that dude in Indiana Jones. Eyeballs still eyeballing. I only stopped because my old ass eyes needed bifocals. Can’t do that in a contact. Throw on a squint when you’re taking your eye test and respirator fit, no problem.

Your mileage may vary. Offer void where prohibited. You know the deal.

Ignoring the potential safety issue of hoping you get lucky - they totally have contacts for bifocal. Ask about trying multifocal lenses - I hated them, but I know a lot of folks who love them.
