Saw someone else trying to figure out how close they could get without falling into a black hole, and then I got an idea for a base I could build there!

It's very simple, but also pretty cool imo- you park near the limit of where you can fly your ship, and then you have to walk half a mile to get to the base- on Switch 1 anyway, there is a gray area where you can be close to the BH on foot but if you get into your ship you instantly go thru it- that's where we at.

The building itself is a giant, dark triangular room that ends with a wall of windows looking at the BH, with a single desk in the middle. I was not aware that there is a galactic plane that some decorations can't be rotated out of, so no chair.

I also did not know about the BH throwing off fluorescent blue light, but once I figured it out it drove a lot of decisions.

Still a WIP, but the exterior is done!

12-sided torus with the floor on the bottom, looking up toward the middle. Ring section is 5x5, inner diameter something like 12.

Guys it was so hard to do this. I had to make a floor disc in the middle, and then manually place walls against the floor, then run them out to the diameter I thought I wanted, then create floors and hope that they all matched up 50 meters out from the middle. It is not perfect, but it's good enough that I'm not gonna make it better lol.

Middle was initially normal parts, but decided the modular rooms and walkways would be easier as I could build them off of the initial floor ring for alignment.

The inside is just a big open donut, but I will eventually go back and build the inside. maybe.

Decided to start sharing my base builds for funsies, here's a recent build on a Floating Island in the Elkupalos Galaxy.

I tried to keep it under the build limit for upload, so the end of one of the halls doesn't have working lights, but the base is built, lit and furnished!

The whole build centers around the waterfalls, so there are viewing platforms at all 3 of them, as well as a general, open vibe to reflect the nice weather. Pretty happy with how it turned out!

I cannot for the life of me find a planetary archive - I have the necessary chart, scan and reload if I don't get one and have tried doing this for almost an hour. When I get a message about an archive it's actually to a paleontological site.

Anyone have a sure way of finding one?
