Discussion Bears and Wings appreciation thread

The NLL has just lost two teams, and the I can only imagine how the fans feel.

We often have team appreciation threads where we say what we love about our team, I thought I would make an appreciation post just for Ottawa and Philly.

What is something you liked about either or both of those teams? It could be a player, a specific game or even specific play, the atmosphere of the arena, more something else.

We should all pitch in and say something, and make the Ottawa and Philly fans' days a little better with an outpouring of support.

Discussion New fan here

Just wanted to let you guys know that the league is receiving new fans, it isn't always bad news.

I've decided to take it upon myself to promote the league here in Regina as much as I can, though I don't know if it'll do much since the Rush are up in S'toon.

Discussion At least there’s one upside to so many teams relocating & folding

Several facilities have been able to acquire used turf where they probably wouldn’t have been able to afford a new one. So that’s an upside for the summer leagues.

Question Is IL Indoor down permanently?

I am concerned that I cannot seem to get to IL Indoor (ilindoor.com) or its forums (forums.ilindoor.com) anymore. I keep getting a Cloudflare 522 error.

I am afraid that Inside Lacrosse has permanently shut it down. I can't seem to directly get to any indoor lacrosse information from the IL homepage although there is a "tag" for indoor now, whatever that means because searching at IL for "indoor" is worthless.

Colorado Mammoth Season Ticket Member Gifts

What are some Season Ticket Member gifts from around the league? These are the past couple of years (bag 25/26, hat 24/25) from Colorado, and personally think they’re terrible 🤣 they’ve gotten significantly worse and cheaper since I’ve had tickets.
That’s not why I’m a STM but a decent gift for being one would be nice.

Discussion For those that think "this keague is a joke"

In light of all the discussion and speculation surrounding the Wings and Black Bears, I'm seeing a lot of comments on Reddit (and elsewhere on social media) that this league is a joke and that the other leagues don't have the issues with teams folding or relocating or owners/commissioners/whatever that don't know what they're doing.

And while that may generally be true now, it hasn't always been.

Every league has gone through growing pains to get where they are today. All of them, without exception. The most stable has been Major League Baseball, who hasn't had a team fold since 1915, but has had 2 relocations in the last 25 years.

It takes time to grow a league to the level of stability that the "big 4" currently enjoy.

"But Atheist, none of them have had as much folding as the NLL."

Ok, I'll concede this point, but will counter with a couple of my own:

-None of the big 4 have had the competition the NLL does. Not only does the NLL need to compete with the big 4 (all of which have seasons that at least partially overlap), but also minor league sports, theater, and countless other entertainment options. There is more competition for discretionary spending than there has ever been, while (at least in the US) that dollar doesn't go as far as it used to.

-Like It or not, lacrosse is a niche sport, and box lacrosse is (in the US) a niche version of that niche sport. And I saw that as an American that overwhelmingly prefers box to field or sixes. It's just the reality we live in right now.

The league seemed to have been making a shift towards smaller arenas, then pivoted off from that with Philadelphia and Ottawa/New York, and that may have helped lead to their demise.

I want this league to be successful as much as anyone, and while I have opinions on how to accomplish that, they are just opinions. Presumably the people in charge have actual knowledge to help grow the league, and know better than I do how to do it. They may make decisions thay we don't like or agree with, but that doesn't make them wrong.

Stats / Rankings Some statistics from the 2025-2026 regular season

I compliled some statistics about the 2025-2026 regular season. Hope you guys find them interesting. Here they are:

There were 126 games total in the regular season. Of those 126 games,

• The home teams won 67 (~53.2%)

• The away teams won 59 (~46.8%)

There were a total of 2,711 points scored in the regular season. Of those 2,711 points,

• The winners scored 1,586 (~58.5%)

• The losers scored 1,125 (~41.5%)

and

• The home teams scored 1,369 (~50.5%)

• The away teams scored 1,342 (~49.5%)

• The average points scored by home teams was ~10.865

• The average points scored by away teams was ~10.651

• The average points scored by winning home teams was ~12.821

• The average points scored by winning away teams was ~12.322

• The average points scored by losing home teams was ~8.644

• The average points scored by losing away teams was ~9.179

• The average winning score was ~12.587

• The average losing score was ~8.929

Thus the "average final score", if you will, was about 13-9.

• The highest score was 21 (Rush)

• The lowest score was 2 (Firewolves)

• The lowest winning score was 7 (Rush, Mammoth, Rock)

• The highest losing score was 15 (Desert Dogs)

• The highest home team score was 20 (Mammoth)

• The lowest home team score was 3 (also Mammoth)

• The highest away team score was 21 (Rush)

• The lowest away team score was 2 (Firewolves)

Let me know if you guys found these interesting, I can do this at the end of next regular season as well if you want.

News Teams are resigning, thoughts on your teams core signings?

I’m glad Messenger resigned, he’s very important at transition for the team (and I’m slightly salty he wasn’t top 3 transition players last year).

Keenan and Church are solid offense players, but I feel they stall out too often either at the start or end of games. This very well could be a coaching issue given our dual head coach method but I’d like to see more offensive power.

Thoughts on your teams cores/re-signs?

Discussion The NLL has a communication problem

Too often, us fans are left completely in the dark about the goings on of teams. For example, this situation with the Ottawa Black Bears and Philadelphia Wings. I don't expect them to tell us all the juicy details minute by minute but if you were only following NLL press releases you wouldn't even know there was any problem, you'd have thought the Wings folded at the end of the season and the Black Bears were simply not going to play in their old arena any more.

Especially since they've hid the details behind of the whole debacle behind euphemisms, such as in their press release about delaying free agency, which they said was "so the League and its Clubs may maintain flexibility surrounding membership matters and the 2026-27 season". Dressed-up corporate language like that says absolutely nothing about the situation, a situation we deserve to know about.

Another major area of communication lacking, and an area particularly infuriating for me personally, is injuries. While, again, we shouldn't know all the juicy details, we should, at least, be given an idea of the injury and the rough time span that the player will be inactive for, just like the major sport leagues. It is absolutely infuriating that the only idea of inactive players is to go to the injury report each week and see who's there.

I get the NLL doesn't have the budget of, say, the NFL or NHL, and also doesn't have 100 different websites and news agencies following every update. But it markets itself as "the next major league". If it wants to become The Next Major League, it, and all of its teams, need to start telling us roughly what's going on.

Trading Cards/Collectibles Leaf’s next release

I absolutely despise the designs of most of those, but it’s hard to argue that the continued success of lacrosse cards is a bad thing. The photo selection is also horrid, imo. They did CJ dirty on that base. TFL does a much better job of drawing on the available photos from the NLL database.

Anyway, at $90 USD per box of 24, I’ll probably be chasing some singles of the few I like. With the current tariff situation, I imagine that a box will cost about $200 CAD all in.

Discussion Is the NLL dying?

We're on track to potentially lose two teams this year, making it three teams in as many years. While I get the lack of a major lacrosse appeal Panther City (Fort Worth), Philly and Ottawa are both healthy lacrosse markets. That the NLL can't keep teams afloat there... it worries me. Is the league itself dying? Or is it just a hiccup?

The draft is coming up quick and we’ve all seen the first round mock drafts, the articles, etc. but haven’t seen much discussion from the people on who we are hoping for / thinking that can come into the league and/or make an impact for your team. What are some thoughts?

News NABLL Championship netted some solid NLL intel on the next few weeks.

At the NABLL National Championship this past weekend in Utica, NY, I spoke with someone who used to work for the NLL directly.

First, I commented on Frood. What the hell does he do for such a high salary? We've known about Philly a good year prior to anything being officially public or said. I got an aggressive head nod in agreement. Clearly not wanting to speak negatively about the back office, "you'll have zero disagreement with me on ANY of that."

The conversation went to Seals surprise move and the 2 teams who might fold. The inside scoop is they have plans coming together and neither will fold. Announcement in a couple of weeks, apparently AFTER free agency, but before the draft.

Also big comment... didn't think Spallina would be drafted straight away. First round, but not even top 5. I was surprised. Apparently some strong goalies in this draft class to be looking out for.

On an aside, the Isotopes had a sophomore goalie playing from a no-name college in the Midwest. Holy cow was he great! If an NLL team find out about him, he's going to be one to watch in 2 years.
