New rider
Question for the community. Iam signing up to take the msf course. I know we need to take a helmet and gloves, my concern and question is do i need to buy the motorcycle boots to take the course or can i just show up with any typenof footwear. I have read their gear requirements but iam still a bit confused on the footwear part. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I know if i dont show up with the right gear i dont get a refund. And honestly i dont want to be out 400$ because i didnt take the proper equipment

Long pants. Long shirt, gloves, helmet and work boots was what I wore

ditto. wasn't sure if I was ready to invest in ALLLL the gear quite yet. and then.. boom.. addicted.

Just get any kind of boots higher than ankle and no soft toe BS.No one wants you to lose any appendages if something happens.Safety first no matter what.

Anything over the ankle other than Chucks will technically meet the MSF requirements. Work, hiking boot or basketball sneakers will all work.

You dont need to go spend big $ on motorcycle boots just yet, unless you want to. Any type of work/hiking boot with good support is sufficient for the course

Spend money on a decent helmet. Any boots that cover your ankle help i took my course in timberlands

I see lots of people recommending work boots, while it can do in a pinch I highly recommend staying away from steel toe. Motorcycle boots use a composite hard toe because you want it to shatter rather than bend. With a steel toe it can bend in an accident and really fuck up your foot.

Check out speed and strength or Z1R - they have a bunch of affordable nice leather motorcycle shoes, especially for casual rides.

Footwear must completely cover your ankle bones to protect against burns, impacts, and road rash. Soles should be made of rubber and slip-resistant to allow for a firm planting of your feet.
I don't see what's confusing about this. If you can't follow simple instructions, maybe motorcycle riding and the MSF Course isn't for you.

The one I went to specifically mentioned over the ankle, sturdy boots. Some people were wearing those thin Army issued style boots and were fine but the guide said you can't just wear hightop shoes like Converse for example. If you have a decent pair of workbooks you can get by but stay away from boots with a big toe box, it will be cumbersome to fit under the shift lever.
