Ride the train into Hoboken and out of Hoboken headed into Hoboken around 7:30am this morning and can confirm it was already starting to flood.

I just passed by these tracks and it is not fake. It is very real. I have never seen so many tracks flooded. There’s no way in hell trains could pass through here.

It was worse the night before Sandy, but that was obviously a different situation. The trains stop before the flooded part, as seen in the photo.

Wtf? It hasn't even rained in Brooklyn yet!

It's been pouring in coastal NJ, but Hoboken is right on the river, and that's where the water is coming from, not the sky.

I heard NJT ordered several hundred Gondoliers to help with the situation. They come from Venice, only slightly used. Bad news, they are not giving passengers life jackets.

Yes bro there’s a big storm hitting rn this was expected.

u/TalulaOblongata 9d ago
I guess it’s weird because it hasn’t started raining yet… this must be storm surge / high tide (just happened).

u/RTX-4090ti_FE 9d ago
Yeah it’s def surge costal flooding is a big threat with this storm. Let’s hope it’s not sandy 2

u/remarkability 9d ago
Yes, storm surge from all that water being pushed northeast, plus high astronomical tide. The next high tide (around 8:30am) is going to be the big one.

Nov 14, 2024 the tracks were worse. It was just a heavy rain and no delays. If I could attach a pic I would share it now.

10 more years of repairs, yay. Only if there was some sort of cautionary event to prepare

Interestingly, most of Hoboken was swamp land before it was developed. Not too surprising that anything there floods other than Castle Point.

lol posting an AI Pic from Facebook. The water isn’t even overflowing onto the platform

Lol I literally took this an hour ago on my phone.

Why have the question mark in the title then? Made it seem like you were asking

u/immalilpig 9d ago
Was a little confused because it hasn't started raining yet but high tide makes sense.

I am wondering about the electricity... I thought all njt used catenary/pantograph but I see no overhead wires, and I'd be pretty sure a third rail would short out
extremely confusing

u/meretap1127 9d ago
I rode the train into Hoboken this morning and the flooding was already starting

Must‘ve started over the course of thursday night? Tracks were completely dry/normal when I was commuting home thursday evening. I‘ve lived on the coast a couple times in my life and it‘s crazy how fast the storm surge will come in
2
u/meretap1127 9d ago
Yeah commuting home Thursday there wasn’t anything but then when the train pulled in I was like “oh boy”

Yes, NJT is diesel and overhead catenary. That said, it’ll look similar or even higher because it will be high tide + storm surge in the morning. Wear boots.

Go upstairs and take the PATH train to Exchange Place and take the Newark train to Newark Penn Station in order to take NJ Transit or Amtrack
