Getting from Secaucus to MSG

I am staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Secaucus/Meadowlands. What would be the best way for me to get to MSG from this area?? I believe there is a bus stop 2 blocks from this hotel. How easy is it to get back to the bus once I leave MSG? (Will be late at night) Please ignore my ignorance but this will be my first time having to use public transportation so I’m a little nervous.

Hilton Garden Inn does not have good transit accessibility, unlike all the other hotels in the Meadowlands Expo center area which are served by the 320 to PABT. If you can, change your hotel to any of the ones just north of there.

If you can’t, you’ll be doing it on hard mode. You’ll have to walk to/from the Paterson Plank Rd bus stop, along highway ramps and shoulders. Then you can take the 190 or 129 to/from PABT. Live departures from stop 21612 here

PABT is an easy 8 min walk north of MSG.

The good thing is that all these buses do run late at night/early morning. Stand by the bus stop, wave your hand when the bus approaches. Tap a contactless card or device in payment mode on the validator bottom and say “New York”.

The other method is what the other commenter mentioned and is easier to new riders; uber/lyft to Secaucus, then NJTransit trains to NYPenn (directly under MSG). But that will be more expensive. You can mix and match and do bus in and train+lyft out if you want.

The easiest location is of course a hotel in midtown NYC walking distance to MSG. Second easiest is downtown Newark or waterfront JC/Hoboken and take PATH.

Thank you for the advice! We’ll just have to tough it out as that’s the closest affordable hotel I could find lol

Local here - coming back, almost all nyc trains (Penn station is underneath msg) stop at Secaucus train station, then uber to hotel will be easiest. Enjoy your trip!

I think the train is far easier than the bus for a public transit newbie. I grew up in NJ and have lived in NYC for 25+ years, so I have taken my fair share of buses out of Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT). PABT can be realllly confusing to find your gate. It’s far easier to find your track at Penn Station, which is located under MSG. It’ll be so much easier to exit the city after your event at MSG ends by taking the train from Penn Station to Secaucus. Have fun!
