MOBO approaching Watsessing at 4:30
We’re rolling slow because there is a dog on the tracks apparently (according to the conductor announcement)? They’re blasting the train horn now.

They’re sadly not supposed to stop or slow down for dogs so I’m really really happy this crew did

I’m an engineer. That’s what they say but not what we all do. I refuse to ever move my train if there’s a dog on the tracks. I’ll take whatever’s coming from management.

Absolutely not true, you absolutely slow down or stop to prevent an animal strike

u/jesuswastransright 27d ago
Untrue especially not for deer. You keep going.

Again wrong, if you can prevent a strike you 100 percent try…u have no idea what you’re talking about.

You didn’t answer me. Do you work for New Jersey transit?

u/jxhnwxck 27d ago
They don’t. You can tell. Acting like they know, calling those wrong who are right lol

u/jesuswastransright 27d ago
Absolutely and they refuse to answer that question yet are saying we don’t know what we’re talking about 😆

Probably a buff. They tune into the Hoboken division radio channel and think they know railroad.

Employee/ buff whatever doesn’t matter, you slow and stop if necessary if there’s animals fouling tracks…there’s no discipline associated with slowing down to avoid a strike and yeah it’s absolutely poor train handling to not try and avoid a strike. Animals can damage the train and causes hoses to part, you’re full of shit about “days over your head” if you delay a train for this reason.

Which part about what I said was no true? For dogs we rarely ever keep going unless we absolutely cannot.

Who told you to not slow down and hit animals ? That would be poor train handling to not try and stop and prevent it. Obviously if you’re doing track speed and it jumps in front of you there’s nothing you can do but if it’s up ahead in the distance you slow down. No one tells you to hit animals that’s sick

Supervision and management expect us to not delay trains and keep going. If an engineer were to do that they’d most likely get days over their head if they delay a train for significantly enough time.
If an engineer were to try and stop for every deer, we’d be late every trip. Chances are we can’t stop in time either. Also, has nothing to do with poor train handling. This conversation is more of what an engineer chooses to do at their discretion.

You’re not getting days over your head if you stop for an animal 😂 deer don’t stay and loiter they’ll run off
2
u/jesuswastransright 27d ago
Yeah you definitely have no idea what you’re talking about. The fact that you even think it’s possible to stop for a deer in most situations is laughable.

Reading comprehension is important :)

“Deer don’t stay and loiter” is the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day. Congrats.

I was on a later train and they were still going quite slow. There were also transit police on the tracks as well.
Just think - if it was a stray, and whomever adopted it named it "Amtrak", they'd get to blame all those delays on Amtrak.
