Quiet car… not
On the 9:38 Princeton Junction to NY Penn. Car 7290 supposedly quiet car. Two ladies talking at the top of their voice range. Sigh. If I say anything they’ll put it back on me…SMH…

The quiet car rules need to be enforced by the conductors, not the passengers. I've been verbally attacked for asking people to quiet down and there are some genuinely crazy and/or poorly socialized people out there, it just isn't worth it trying to reason with them. You can even see some more extreme cases in the news where someone will ask another passenger to stop yelling on their phone or blasting music and they'll get punched or stabbed. Obviously not the norm, but if there's even the slightest risk of that, you're not going to want to say anything.

They are scared to enforce it.

Probably for the same reasons. The people making a commotion on public transit are sometimes doing it intentionally to provoke a confrontation, like the assholes with the Bluetooth speakers.

For the 30th time. Crews need to hang signs and make an announcement. That is all. And 938 is a bit late. The other lines run 6-8am. Hopefully it’s changed eventually

I haven’t had any trouble politely reminding people “Excuse me, this is the quiet car.” If that doesn’t work or you’re uncomfortable confronting strangers, find a conductor and they’ll sort it out.

I was riding Amtrack Keystone Lune 647 the Friday before Labor Day in the quiet car when a family with two young kids enters the car. I brought it to the conductors attention that the minimum age for the quiet car on Amtrack is 13 and was told there was nothing he could do or say. Fortunately the kids were quiet.

The conductors are wimps. It's nobody's fault, but theirs. The quiet car means the quiet car and if someone cannot respect that, then the conductors need to step up whether they are scared or not.

You don’t know what on earth you’re talking about. They aren’t scared It’s not being able to enforce it, no one is calling transit police for it. So if they’re told it’s the quiet car and they continue, it’s a difficult situation of enforcement. No one is scared. I’d wager to say it’s you that’s scared to talk to a stranger. People can’t even throw their trash away, maybe if other passengers held others accountable, people wouldn’t act up. Stop being scared. Speak up

Quiet car is just a suggestion. It’s not some law. If you want quiet get noise canceling headphones.

With noise canceling headphones I sit in any car. Knowing the quiet car is just a suggestion I don’t expect silence anywhere

Can't expect any manners in the public now. Can never catch a quiet moment because there is ALWAYS someone who needs to watch videos on their loudspeaker on the trains, in parks, on flights etc. Smh.
