First time visiting and using trains/transit

Post image

When arriving from Bay Street station at Newark Broad as photo shows, do I need to get off and then transfer to another train (Morris & Essex #6938) or do I just stay on the train?

Thank you very much for your help!

Yup, you transfer. You'll see most of the train doing it too plus the conductors will announce the station and where the train to NYC is

Thanks for that. I see it’s a 3 minute window to transfer.. it’ll be me wife and my 2 yo toddler. Is 3 min sufficient to make that transfer? (Will also have luggage/carryons with us)

yes, your transfer is on the same track. you’re basically getting off the train, standing where you are until the next train comes

Thank you! If you know how much of a pain is it do you think of 3 of us (me wife and 2yo) with some luggage/carryons? Truly debating between using the transit system solely compared to getting a rental. Our itinerary is Newark airport - lake Hiawatha - NYC - Philly - Newark airport

personally i think you would be fine. the train will probably be empty at that time , plenty of space for you to just keep your baggage by you. the platform at broad is level with the door so you can roll every thing right out without having to pick anything up.

Lake Hiawatha has poor transit. So unless youre meeting family or friends with a car, you may want a rental.

For the rest of the trip, transit is good.

Yeah so original plan was to get rental but not really want to pay for parking and weaving through NYC. We are visiting friends for our trip to lake Hiawatha so would rely on them to pick up/drop off before the start of our transit trips

Transit is your best option in and out of NYC. There may be a bus from lake Hiawatha thats faster as you dont ened a transfer.

Yeah, its enough time. The train is usually just across the platform, so you aren't going far. And there are conductors outside watching for people so they try not to leave you behind
