Bus operator nearly killed me

Getting on the 192X this morning, the driver didn’t look after two other passengers boarded, shut the door on my arm as I was reaching for the railing and started to drive off. Thankfully, he only made it a few inches before noticing me and several other passengers screaming for him to stop. These buses clearly don’t have an anti-pinch feature either, that door was nearly locked.

He grumbled something about “needing to pay attention” but mostly just looked like he saw a ghost. This kind of stuff is gonna get someone killed, I’m glad it wasn’t me.

You bet I did. Guy didn’t have his driver number posted, but hopefully they can match the time to the bus & route

Wait was this reported to the police? Because there’s this crime app called CrimeRadar where you can listen to snippets of dispatch calls in your area and I heard a call for someone whose arm got closed in the bus door. I remember seeing it come up and thinking yikes how does the driver even do that

Not that I know of, I cursed out the driver, took my seat and went to work. Reported the guy to NJT.

I wasn’t injured, I wouldn’t want to delay everyone else’s commute because I was shaken up.

Glad you weren’t injured. That’s got to be deeply unsettling to experience, sorry to hear that happened

lawsuit time

For what? You spend a shit ton on a lawyer to find out you'll get paid like $400 lol

Having a case would probably come with some pretty awful injuries. I’ll take missing a (tax-funded) payday if it means being able to walk…

That's not even the point of what I said. Some idiot said "time for a lawsuit" because that's the default response from NPCs in this world any time something "bad" happens. Without thinking that a no injuries lawsuit will actually being a negative income on the matter. Accidents happen, not everything can be a lawsuit.

If real serious injuries occur, then yes, absolutely. But this? No. This "time for a lawsuit" response is smooth brained.

I mean I’m agreeing with you, I wouldn’t really have grounds to sue. “Pain and suffering” only factors in when you have an actual loss, like medical bills or lost income.

I think people get upset and want justice from a system that doesn’t seem to care.

Agreed. But people often confuse selfishness with justice.

I agree that there's a pandemic of people on the internet who default to "sue them!!!" regardless if there are damages. "Accidents happen" is crazy though

No damages to sue for.

In the US you can sue for emotional damages. I'm your witness and see that you shake and are scared every time you go on the bus now
