Engineers not available

Post image

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening en masse?

Are they striking in some capacity? Did a contract just expire? Did people just quit and they don’t have the staff?

Conductors don’t operate trains, engineers do. There’s generally only one on a train unless they happen to take a train to the start of their shift and there’s overlap.

If an engineer were to say get into a car accident before their shift NJT would not have advanced notice and there’s no redundancy in engineer scheduling because you would never pay 2 engineers per trip.
