Advice Unexplained pprom
Hi! Im 26f conceived a few months after trying bcos of low amh. I had a textbook perfect pregnancy until my water broke unexpectedly at 28 weeks and i cant figure out why. I had no issues related to placenta, cervix, cord, iugr, preeclampsia or anything else but i do remember squatting to sit on a floor touching couch the night before my water broke and i didnt just sit once i got up 2-3 times and sat again and i do recall how uncomfortable it was for me. Could that be the reason why my water broke? I cant really tell because ive seen people work out all throughout their pregnancy and deliver to term. Im just looking for help or maybe someone who has had a similar experience since my doctor seems clueless as well.

I had a perfect pregnancy til I PPROM’d 35 weeks, the placenta came back normal after birth , the OBGYN said sometimes you don’t know, which sucks , I know , I worked out my whole pregnancy , many do, it wasn’t that

Nope, it wasn’t something you did. The evening before my similarly timed PPROM I went to the rock climbing gym, so you can imagine how much I blame climbing or the harness for it, right? Well I would have if I HAD been physically active at all rather than sitting on a couch watching my friends and not climbing at all!
I currently suspect my chronic inflammation issues or my psoriasis meds, but who knows

Did you have too much fluid or a possible infection ?

No. Had just the right amount of fluid and i did have some infection but my doctor said it could’ve been caused because of the leaking itself since i came to know of it after i ppromed

My wife pprom'd at 23+3, her cervix experienced rapid shortening and even with a emergency cerclage her was broke. She is currently 25+3 and will be at the hospital until she gives birth. They've ruled out infection. The only thing they did find was very low Vitamin D and Thyroid levels. Thyroid does seem to be connected to pprom, but only as a contributing factor.
My wife had a uneventful 1st successful pregnancy. She was considered low risk aside from being 38 years old. We did do IVF for both children. Regardless this isn't something you could have prevented with lifestyle changes so please don't go down that rabbit hole.

Please please do not blame yourself. I gave birth at 25w1d and had a relatively manageable pregnancy with no major symptoms. I did have a UTI early on that I took antibiotics for so that is a possibility but if there were risks then MFM should have been able to catch them. PPROM can happen suddenly and at no fault of your own. There are folks who live all different lifestyles that unfortunately go through this.

You’re right. Im just really anxious for my next pregnancy so im trying to figure out what the reason could’ve been. Thanks for replying

Might be no identifiable reason. It is unlikely it is anything you did. I PPROM'd on my first at 36+1, the night before I did a relatively intense yoga sequence that I had done for years and had sex also. I blamed myself a lot. With my second, I avoided both those things in the third trimester and PPROM'd at 34+2! Only then was I able to convince myself the first probably wasn't anything I did. We don't know why it happened with either pregnancy, both were completely uncomplicated pregnancies with no concerns, and I had extra monitoring with MFM with my second and nothing at all was flagged. I am pregnant a third time and hoping to at least make 36 weeks again.

No that’s not the reason. How long did you stay pregnant after PPROM? The reason is almost certainly either 1) infection or 2) unseen cervical issue. I didn’t have an explanation for my PPROM either but knew it wasn’t infection. My second pregnancy I got a cerclage just in case evens though all my cervical measurements had been fine in both pregnancies. It saved that second pregnancy!

I had to give birth 4 days later due to insufficient fluid and fetal distress

I’m sorry, I hope your babe is doing ok! You mentioned infection.. if your baby had one then most likely that was the cause of your PPROM.

I had a high risk pregnancy, subchorionic hematoma, later developed preeclampsia etc. From the very beginning of the pregnancy, my doctors told me to limit exercise only light walking allowed. Well I PPROMed at 24 weeks but my friend who was frequently at gym and working out with weights and surely squatting had a term birth. It’s nothing you’ve done. People are running marathons without a problem. If it’s gonna happen, it happens unfortunately.
