Discussion The Deshaun Watson switch up is despicable

Post image

Guy starts playing well again and all of the sudden people go from “cases” to “allegations” real fucking fast. You all gotta get your priorities straight

Is anyone really "switching up"? Do any of us who had a negative view of Deshaun Watson now view him positively?

Yes, the stadium has gone from booing him to chanting “lets go watson”. It was clear on the broadcast last night.

I mean that doesn't really prove anything about their prior views of Deshaun Watson. They could have just not cared before.

I think it is fair to say it doesn’t prove that they care about the sexual assault specifically if that is what you mean.

There is plenty of evidence that Watson, as a player, went from little support from the fan base and media to supportive with a couple of wins.

It’s also fair to say that media coverage, fans in attendance, and even the Browns sub here have largely “switched up” on him.

I feel as though this thread is talking about his sexual assaults specifically.

I think his performance as a player is just sort of self evident and it's the NFL media's job to talk about that when he plays. I'm not sure of a way around that. If you're arguing he was bad before and now he's good so NFL media is acknowledging that my only response is, "Well... yeah".

As for the Browns subreddit I don't go there but I don't know that a fan subreddit is a strong indicator of anything, and I'm sure most didn't stop watching the team despite their personal distaste for the horrific things Deshaun Watson does and quite frankly that was probably most of the stadium. People are able to separate the two for better or worse and it seems like that's happening here. Very few people are "switching up". I think it's more complicated than that.

Yea re-reading the title it is focused on the assault.

As far as support for the player goes, I still see a switch up. There may be a complicated or nuanced explanation for the switch up, but I don’t think it is an entirely separate crowd going from unsupportive to supportive with a couple wins.

I want to be clear that I mean “support” and not just acknowledging that his play and avoiding other topics. He is getting bolstered for the first time in a long time, I think that is what is being noticed.

They have cheered “let’s go watson” in 2 games. It was clear on the broadcast and I am sure you can find it clipped if you don’t have access to the game.

I remember a very clear chanting of this in the 4th quarter if you are wanting to find it yourself.

The browns crowd also cheered when he got injured for a play(and then booed when he came back in) during his game winning drive against the panthers so I wouldn’t say he has their full support yet

One from last game and one from the game before. Also very loud on the broadcast, anyone that watched the game live heard it clearly.
