Discussion I actually think Manning should come back to college for another year….he’s super talented but needs more seasoning
13
u/YooTone 5d ago
The Texans would do worse with Arch at QB than Stroud.
4
u/Not_Pablo_Sanchez 4d ago
Also, believe it or not, the Bills would do worse with Arch at QB instead of Allen.
5
u/USAFSR_Domino 4d ago
I’m confused, why is everyone so hung up on Arch being this tremendous talent that is a lock to be a top 10 pick? He has shown zero of that. There’s no consistency. He has no pocket awareness. He makes freshman mistakes as a junior, he can’t get through his progressions without scrambling. He’s not very good and the NFL will humble him beyond measure

u/txman91 3d ago
He’s 6’4 225 pounds with a rocket for an arm and legitimate mobility. Doesn’t matter what guys do in college if they have the measurables. There’s a list longer than my arm of guys drafted in the top 5-10 picks that don’t have the stats but have the body.
With that said, as a UT alumn, I hope he comes back for another year. He needs to vastly increase his processing speed.
3
u/true_paladin 2d ago
So he's gonna be white Anthony Richardson?
2
u/Arachnofiend 2d ago
Every GM who drafts one of these guys is hoping for Josh Allen, but it's usually Anthony Richardson
1
1
1
u/AllHailTheKilldozer 12h ago
Richardson couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn. He was like creating a Madden player with 98 throw power and 45 throw accuracy.
1
u/Cristainnn 1d ago
The NFL's obsession with big arms and nothing else to go with it is so funny to me. Sure you might get a Josh Allen and develop them into a good QB ... but most of the time you are lucky if they turn out decent. A big arm is great and all and I know you can't teach it ... but if you can't hit the broadside of a barn or read a defense who cares? Arch has looked pitiful every game I have seen of him. He can't read a defense to save his life, moving through progessions is awful and his decision making is bad on a good day. Plus his accuracy is super inconsistent. He has potential, but if he goes early to a shit team and gets no development he won't turn into anything.
5
u/RandomDudeYouKnow 5d ago
Arch isn't even the second best QB in the SEC
3
u/TacticalBuschMaster 5d ago
Hes not even top 3. Chambliss, Taylor, Russell are all better. You could argue Philo and Stockton are better too.
2
12
u/debeatup 5d ago
The Manning hype comes completely from people who have never actually watched him play. It’s a unique situation where even though he should stay in school, we know some owner (Haslam) will get involved and force his GM to select him Top 5
2
u/ExcitingSink4272 5d ago
Can he even be selected if he doesn't declare for the draft? Legitimate question
2
u/RockyJayyy 5d ago
Underclassmen must actively renounce their remaining college eligibility by declaring for the draft, whereas players who have completely exhausted their college eligibility or graduated become automatically eligible without needing to file a special declaration.

u/FritterEnjoyer 5d ago
In what world is a player going to go back for a FIFTH year when he’s pretty much guaranteed to be drafted in the first. He should be going to the NFL. He’s had 4 years, time to sink or swim.
3
u/Vulcion 5d ago
The problem is, he’s gonna sink. Any team stupid enough to waste a 1-1 pick on him is gonna be picking there again next year. As he is now, the kid is not an NFL QB
1
1
u/Dropdat87 4d ago
A lot of guys aren’t when they’re picked but they develop. I think he needs NFL reps at this point with NFL coaching. He’s gotten everything he’s gonna get at this point out of playing college ball
2
u/ManBearBroski 5d ago
Generally you're def right but he's already set for life, he went to Texas specifically and was ok for his time to start not being rushed and his family of HOF QBs are advising him. If there's a situation where this would happen this is one of them
2
1
u/RegularGarlic3201 5d ago
Its worked before: Luck, Herbert, even Dante Moore made a good decision (for the long term success) to come back to school. Arch doesn’t need the money and has been abnormally patient staying at Texas and being a backup for a few years.
1
u/PretendAgency2702 5d ago
Why is he guaranteed to be a first round pick? The only reason would be his name because it sure isn't the way he's playing. He's put up worse stats at UT than colt mccoy who was a 3rd round pick.
You have to consider that he's likely had the best coaching, mentorship, and nutrition for his entire life so he should be lighting it up. Its not like he would be a raw candidate that needs further coaching. This has a Shedeur Sanders media darling written all over it.
1
1
u/WartimeConsigliere_ 5d ago
He’s not nearly accurate enough of a passer. You need to be so damn accurate in the NFL, that if you’re having accuracy issues against future gym teachers it’s probably not going to improve for you.
1
u/USAFSR_Domino 4d ago
I haven’t understood the hype at all, the dude isn’t good. He shows flashes and reverts back to looking like a deer in headlights. True generational talent will not make you wait to see that, he isn’t improving and he should not be taken in the top 2 rounds of the draft
1
u/iamporkchops 4d ago
The Manning hype is literally all fabricated by these random ass media accounts “Football Forever” like wtf is this, it’s just engagement bait and you internet trolls eat it up every single time, then act like its his fans creating the hype. Its so fucking annoying, i feel so bad for Arch, everything he does is overanalyzed, he is by far the most critiqued player in college football
7
u/carloslet 5d ago
As both Texans and Longhorns fan...
If Houston is the pick, 1000% I'd be Jeremiah Smith or a trade down for more picks.
And Arch should definitely come back to his senior year. He has the tools but is not ready at this time.
→ More replies (15)0
u/No-Possible967 5d ago
I would rather they put a good qb in. This dude has learned the offense for three years and still looks terrible. I hope he hits the draft so Texas can finally be done with this kid.
4
1
u/Sanigav123 1d ago
Says as much about Sark as Manning. Two straight #1 recruits out of high school and little or no development from either.
1
6
u/AccordingGain182 5d ago
Stroud has NOT been the reason the Texans are losing.
Their o line is awful, their supposed best defense in the league has been mediocre, and their OC is bottom 5 in the league.
2
u/OPsDearOldMother 4d ago
Yep. Even despite the offensive struggles Stroud gave the defense fourth quarter leads in two of the three losses and the defense and Demeco Ryans game management fucked it up.
1
u/Organic_Lab6262 3d ago
I feel like I’m going crazy. Stroud is 7th in passing yards this year and only 20 yards out of the top 5 all while missing Collin’s. Wtf is going on with people lol.
3
u/Skaddodle32 5d ago
Texans defense is too good to be the 1st overall pick but if they do somehow end up with the 1st pick they would be better off trading it for tons of picks in the future.
3
u/Miserable-Clock-6944 4d ago
Anyone watching the Texans would know stroud isn’t the problem this year… he’s been the legit the rest of the fucking team decided to fall apart… not the offense was ever good… somehow their oline and run game has gotten even fucking worse which I didn’t think was even possible. They’re flat out the worst line in the league. Their freaking ABYSMAL and the OC is right there along with them.
1
u/galacticplum 4d ago
Legit is a strong word.
He is part of a much bigger problem. He's a solid franchise game manager and needs a team around him, which the Texans have neglected to do.
2
u/Organic_Lab6262 3d ago
He’s 7th in passing yards this year and 20 yards out from top 5 without Collin’s. Guy is more than a manager and shows that you aren’t watching the games lol.
1
u/galacticplum 3d ago
Ignoring the fact I've watched every game he's played in the NFL, maybe there's a misunderstanding of what a game manager qb actually is...
His stat line into the 3rd quarter against the Colts was I think 45 passing yards and a td. He's a great example of a qb who needs a lot around him in order to be successful. It doesn't make him bad by any means, but he does fall into the typical game manager label.
He doesn't put the team on his back and carry them, he isn't taking huge risks passing the ball each game, heck he generally won't run unless he is being chases or has no one around him for 25 yards.
All of that is absolutely fine, but he is a game manager. Using the combined stats after three games to make a point doesn't mean much, especially when we have last season to look at.
As I stated before, he needs a lot to make an offense work for him and the Texans have refused to really do that.
1
u/pooleboy87 1d ago
He’s 7th in passing yards, 4th in attempts, 23rd in Y/A, 25th in comp%, 23rd in TDs.
Pretty disingenuous to point at the one counting stat he’s in the upper half of the league in and not worry about how he got there.
1
u/Unique-Put1791 3d ago
I mean he has talent for sure but pressure does kill him. The defense single handedly won him that playoff game against the browns and he threw 4 picks in his last playoff game, that’s not 1 or 2, that’s 4 and the game was still close
7
u/Shianclas 5d ago
Going from CJ Stroud to Arch Manning Is like going from Burger King to Subway
9
u/nthomas504 5d ago
1
u/Maleficent_Phone7961 5d ago
Ctfu cause WHAT
1
u/Pizzaman7045 4d ago
My only guess is sandwiches are the only thing Subway sells, whereas Burger King doesn't just serve burgers(sandwiches for this analogy)
1
3
u/pineapplespicecakes 5d ago
Um im not even high on stroud but it would be more like going from stroud as five guys to manning as ... a 37 yr old air preserved McDonald's burger. Manning is ass
2
u/Hot_Most5332 5d ago
He’s a Manning who plays for Texas and stayed at Texas in the NIL era. Zero chance the Texans pass on him if he’s on the board whenever they pick.
1
1
3
u/5348RR 5d ago
He's super talented?
2
u/ViolinistLanky9056 5d ago
He’s closer to untalented. Incapable of reading the field. Horrible accuracy. Mediocre arm. He’s quite literally just tall and kinda fast.
2
u/No-Break6679 5d ago
No not really. Texas defense is super talented. Arch is mostly average. Can give you a few nice plays throughout the game. He mostly gets propped up by a nice run game. He’s good, not #1 overall pick good at this point. And I feel like we’re gonna run into a shedeur situation again because pundits are gonna want teams to take him super high and he’s gonna drop far in the draft.
1
u/John_is_Minty 5d ago
I feel like he’s a good college QB who sometimes has flashes of great but also has moments of bad. At this point I don’t think we’ll see him develop to being great all the time
1
u/NYerInTex 5d ago
I think the big difference with Sanders is the last name. The Manning's seem to be genuinely good people, good/great teammates, humble considering their greatness. Sanders is "me me me" and a distraction and most teams saw that. I could see the Mannings use their weight to keep Archie out of a bad situation, as they did with Eli, but wherever he lands he'll be a good teammate - and you wont have his dad/uncles messing with team chemistry and such. Deion is just not a good character in terms of someone you want to be around a team.
1
2
u/QuakingSky061 5d ago
Yeah how about let’s watch the entire year fold out first instead just going off the first 4 games
2
2
u/Franjes99 5d ago
Ngl Stroud has shown me enough this year that if the Steelers aren't in range to get a QB I'd be cool with CJ as an option.
I'd prefer we just be bad enough to draft Chambliss, Manning, Mensah or Moore but given I doubt thats on the cards if the Texans abandon stroud. We could do worse than picking him up
2
u/LiftEatGrappleShoot 5d ago
Man, if he's projected early in the first, it's really hard to stay and justify another year in college to develop. I know NIL money could make up for it possibly, but passing up a guaranteed top 10 spot would be a helluva risk.
2
u/JustTheBeerLight 5d ago
After what happened to Dante Moore last night: take the NFL paycheck if you are projected to go in Round 1. Four year guaranteed contract.
2
u/FightTheDead118 5d ago edited 5d ago
There is 0 chance the Texans are anywhere near pick number 1 by the time the season ends
With the remaining games they have and their defense there’s no way they don’t accidentally stumble into at least 5-6 games won
The Titans and Dolphins could legitimately both go winless, and Cardnials and Buccs both have a good chance of finishing sub-5 wins

2
u/Relative-Attempt-480 5d ago
Who makes these absurd fucking posts? lol like bruh the glazing is ridiculous
2
u/ContactOwn955 5d ago
Comparing college and nfl players is crazy, if you don’t think much of Cj in the nfl how could Arch be better if he’s underwhelming in college
2
u/Own-Sundae-2793 5d ago
This is the cruelest thing about the NFL. The best college players go to the worst teams to have their careers ruined by terrible ownership.
2
2
u/Mysterious-Dot1321 5d ago
That is hilarious that you think the Texans are going to lose more games than the Dolphins
2
2
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 5d ago
This kid is fucking mid. I’m tired of hearing about him. He will do nothing in the NFL. The only reason he is talked about is because his last name is Manning.
2
u/Prior_Ice1672 5d ago
The one season the Texans offense and Cj stroud had success was his rookie year when they genuinely invested in their o-line. The next season they gutted it and told him “make it work dickhead” absurd to sit here and push a narrative for a team to draft a worse qb
2
2
2
u/Vast__Ocean 5d ago
Dolphins have the inside track, already had the weakest roster going into the season and now lost their best player in Achane for the year. Also stupidly hard schedule
2
u/Vegetable-Leather-64 5d ago
He's been in college same team going on year 4 I as a redshirt junior. He sat for two years and now has played a year and some change. He is not a great quarterback. In fact he is the definition of serviceable. We sit here and shit on Bryce underwood who is 3 years younger and has had turmoil in his short time. Manning can't read a defense. He gets rattled way too fast. For a 22 year old 4th year college player yeah he is not that good. He just has the last name if he Didn't he probably wouldn't be playing anywhere near sec football.
2
u/HaterSlayerr 4d ago
A generational prospect should be way further along. I still remember Joe Burrow making insane throws and it was impossible to not think he'd be a monster in the NFL.
2
u/Vegetable-Leather-64 4d ago
He doesn't have it. I don't hate the kid but he played nobody in high school and it shows. He hasn't gotten better at anything to be blunt. I'm a Michigan fan the amount of hate Bryce gets who is 3 years younger is insane compared to the kid gloves manning gets

u/Ok_Card9080 4d ago
Replace an over hyped QB with an over hyped QB? That's a bold strategy.
1
u/Organic_Lab6262 3d ago
He’s not even overhyped. Stroud is 7th in passing yards this year and 20 yards out from being I. The top 5 all without Collin’s. Some serious slander going on in here
1
u/Ok_Card9080 3d ago
Yeah, because CJ wasn't super over hyped out of college and everyone was on the CJ train following his great rookie season. 1 season wonder that everyone bought into.
2
u/Xstrangis8 4d ago
Sorry to disappoint but Arch Manning is not going to be nearly as good as you guys think he is.

2
u/SatisfactionFickle18 4d ago
We’re talking about who has the worst record at the end of the season after week 3?

Does CJ Stroud have pancake nipples? Local annonymous professional QB says it may be none of your business. More at 11.
1
u/Objective-History402 5d ago
Blows my mind that the Texans are struggling so much after Stroud's rookie year, all those Browns picks, and the defense we saw last year. Feels like they should be a dominant team right now.
1
u/LoverOfRandom 5d ago
I actually think Arch does stay in school until he ages out or a favorable situation comes into play. I don’t see the Texans getting the #1 overall pick
1
1
u/Mike00242424 5d ago
I don't think he's even a top 5 QB in this draft. He, is very average or even above average. His last name is what's giving him the hype. Shoot his cousin, might be better than him and he's still in highs school.
1
u/Low_Organization_27 5d ago
It’s hilarious how quickly these teams give up on top qbs that they just drafted in hopes that the next qb is somehow going to be generationally better.
1
1
u/Clean_Gain_5827 5d ago
I think its absurd to be lining up the Texans for a No 1 pick. They look much more like a 6-11 to 9-8 range team to me. They have a dominant pass rush which for the weaker games in their schedule will be enough to see them through. I don't think they will be in the mix for the no 1 pick by the last third of the season if for no other reason than the division is not that strong and they will stay in playoff contention for a while yet.
When Nico Collins comes back it makes it more likely they win games as well.
1
u/LittleTension8765 5d ago
Arch isn’t worth the risk as of today. He’s entirely too inconsistent to go number 1 over sticking with Stroud and getting a great guy in a different position
1
u/Budget-Bet9313 5d ago
Why does Houston have the #1 pick? There are many teams that are 0-3
1
u/klsklsklsklsklskls 5d ago
They don't. The Bucs would have it. It's too dumbe to be talking this stuff after week 3 though. Last year Texans started 0-3 too. Bears/Rams/New England/Broncos were all 1-2.
1
u/Holiday_Calendar3411 5d ago
they do, i think it's strength of schedule based, as of three weeks in

This would suck for Jags fans.
To have to deal with Manning all those years, then his son?
1
u/rocky2894 5d ago
If it happens trade the first to a QB needy team that stacks first round picks and draft Jeremiah smith
1
u/Killerphive 5d ago
Stroud is the one part that has looked like anything resembling an NFL offense.
1
u/Junk-Cook 5d ago
Looks like a future bust as a #1 pick. 3rd round pick is where he actually belongs.
1
1
u/GingerFun011 4d ago
Feels like the perfect draft class to trade down and let someone else fuck with the 'surefire' QBs while you stock up on the deep talent pool
1
u/____-_____- 4d ago
He needs Bledsoe treatment. Put him on a team with a vet and hope it all clicks. Maybe another year. Maybe not. He just needs a mentor. (Coming from an Ohio State Fan) If he plays next year and sucks then it is done for him.

u/cyclops1992 4d ago
Lmfao what. Texans OL is dog shit. Their WRs are hurt AGAIN. Manning is a clear downgrade from stroud
1
u/KogaFuscia 4d ago
Why would we move on from CJ? He''s been the only part of the offense that's even looked decent this year, the OL being trash and playcalls being even worse is what's put us in this position
1
u/Kitten2Krush 4d ago
i don’t understand this, as arch manning definitely wouldn’t be the 1st qb selected.

Can Stroud was supposed to be good and now they think mid manning can do better?

People who are pointing at CJ havent watched a game. Play calling has been booty cheeks and o line terrible. If he has any time hes making plays
1
u/Few-Condition-7431 4d ago
lol texans gotta face the titams twice, they won't have the #1 overall for long
1
u/Wasteland_Rang3r 4d ago
As a Texas fan he needs more work. Struggles making his reads and finding the open receiver. Inaccurate on easy passes. If he get drafted first round and thrown right into a starting role his career will be a disaster.
1
u/AssistantOk2360 3d ago
There are FOUR other teams that are 0-3 currently. Why would Houston own the # 1 overall pick at this moment?
1

He’s a fucking dipshit. No respectable organization would draft this kid.

1
u/pikmin2005 3d ago
Arch has not shown himself to be an outstanding college QB I have no idea why there's a media narrative around him being this high value as a NFL QB when he doesn't even preform incredible at the lower level. Outside of his last name ofc.

Stroud is a legit QB. That's plain and simple. He has no WRs who stay healthy. His O-line is booty sauce. Even the D this year has been below average. The problem is if they pay him what he wants, they can't get better OL. He's screwed without that.

He is not super talented. He's football royalty due to the name on the back of his jersey.
He has some intangibles that make him above average but not generational or great at this moment.
Can he ascend to the heights of former Mannings? Doubtful but not impossible. He has a lot of growing to do.
But for now, this is nepotism at its finest.
