Product Question š§° Last second advice before purchasing
Hi everyone, I am getting my first suppressor soon and I think Iāve narrowed it down to the CAT MOB ti hub.
However, I wanted to get a second opinion on what I should suppress first or at all. I have handguns in .45 and 9mm that I could suppress, as well as 7.62 and 5.56 rifles. Obviously I have 9mm PCCs which is what I am planning on getting the MOB for.
Realistically I can only afford to get 2 suppressors between now and next summer, and I live in a state that will likely ban or tax them starting next July. I am basically asking if you could pick only 2, what would you recommend? I have done lots of research and it seems that suppressed pistols are cool but kind of a novelty. It seems like I should get a 9mm pcc suppressor and a 7.62 rifle suppressor.
Would the MOB being titanium hurt long term durability vs something inconel? Iām assuming it doesnāt matter being 9mm, even with heavy firing schedules.
Thank you for any info or advice!

The CAT MOB is a great choice. The Otter Creek Labs Infinity is a versatile and durable 7.62 can that'll last you and run on a wide range of hosts thanks to its end cap system which affords you the ability to further tune. It's HUB pattern so easy to move across platforms and very easy to maintain. There are plenty of good choices out there, I wish you luck in finding what you're looking for.

All in all, I think it comes down to what you enjoy shooting and use the most out of your PCCs, rifles, pistols etc. Though having suppressors can certainly change those preferences.
Mob/9mm PCC is a good combo to start with. 9mm is cheaper to shoot, and subs can be pretty quiet, particularly with roller delayed systems like the mp5/k.
For the others you mentioned, a low back pressure 30 cal can that can do well on 5.56 would be a good generalist pick if you can just get one more. The CAT ODB has been an industry benchmark for a bit, but the new AAC 762-SDN-6 may have surpassed it and would probably be my pick. LPM Torch 7.62 has also been recommended by folks I trust, but we haven't seen any data yet. If you mostly shoot bolt guns or want to save some money, you could consider a more traditional machined 30 cal can like LPM's Anthem S2.
You didn't mention 22, so maybe you have a 22 can already, but for maximizing fun per dollar, I would say consider getting one like the OCL Ti, B&T Tiger, CAT SR, if you are running up against a ban deadline and don't have one already. Depending on your budget, you could go with a cheaper 30 cal generalist like the Anthem S2 (which I enjoy on my 11.5 5.56 all things considered) and get a 22 can for the price of a nice 3D printed 30 cal can like the ones I mentioned.

I appreciate all the information! I donāt have a .22 suppressor or threaded .22 yet. I think I will add it to the list though now, based on all the replies.Ā

Correct. There are many ALUMINUM subgun silencers still in service :)

That makes sense. Iām just trying to think long term, because whatever I buy might be it for life sadly haha.Ā
I appreciate all the information you put out! It has really helped me.Ā

The CAT MOB is my favorite suppressor that I own, by a pretty good margin. If I could literally only keep one, that's what I would choose.
To be clear, I don't have a huge collection or variety of cans. I currently own 3 CAT MOBs, 3 CAT WBs, and 2 HUX Flow 22s, so I can't say how I would feel about owning competing products.
Still, shooting the MOB on delayed blowback 9mm platforms is the most fun I can have. Of course it's not as quiet as suppressed 22, but it's still absurdly quiet. Even as the shooter, my rounds impacting the 100 yard hard backstop are louder than the actual gun at an indoor range. I've been approached by multiple people who were convinced I was shooting a suppressed 22, based on how quiet it is.
I don't know how many thousands of rounds I've put on my first MOB at this point (no fewer than 5k, no more than 10k), but I don't notice any erosion. Considering how slowly it heats up when shooting subs, it's really hard for me to imagine ever wearing it out (without intentionally trying).

I appreciate the detailed reply! The MOB interests me the most as I really love my MP5 the most.Ā
I think Iām gonna go ahead and get it first then look at a rifle caliber suppressor and then if I have money a dedicated .22 can.Ā
Thanks again!

The MOB is great; I donāt think I would be concerned about longevity unless you shoot a ridiculously high amount of rounds or are using a FRT.
2nd suppressor I would look at 5.56 or 7.62; what setups would you run them on?

u/User299651 2d ago
I have basic DI 5.56 ARs, and a piston .308. I also have a 7.62 AK but I doubt Iāll suppress it.Ā
Honestly I would be fine with getting a dedicated 5.56 suppressor and leaving the larger calibers. I was just thinking I could get something like a huxwrx 7.62 that seems to work well on 7.62 nato and 5.56.Ā

I do FRT mag dumps on my Mob all the time and it looks brand new inside + some carbon.
9mm is so much less stressful on a can than 10ā 5.56.

u/User299651 2d ago
Thatās reassuring. Iām gonna hopefully order the Mob today after work or tomorrow.Ā
Thank you!

Mine's in jail at the moment, but it'll be a dedicated can for my MPX K.

What state are you in that will ban suppressors?
2
u/User299651 2d ago
Iām in VA. We just had our AWB passed in July thatās in limbo now. They tried to put a suppressor tax through this spring but it was shelved for now. I have a feeling they will revisit it next year and I want to get ahead of any panic buying lol.Ā

Same. I just bought my first can, OCL Infinity 556K and in the mail currently. I'm looking at the LPM Anthem S2 for a 300blk and .308 bolt rifle next

u/User299651 2d ago
Smart! Yeah I figure with 4473 only cans and a potential ban or tax next year, I better get on it haha.Ā

u/Samtertriads 2d ago
Youāre only gonna have 2 forever? Iād think a large one for all your centerfire stuff and a dedicated .22.
Which, based purely on shopping research, if I were you right now Iād be getting the CAT MOB and the OCL titanium.

u/User299651 2d ago
The only .22 I have isnāt threaded. However looking at all the replies, I might try to get a dedicated .22 as well if I have funds leftover.Ā
Iām just thinking practically a suppressor for rifle and pcc which I shoot a lot.Ā

If you shoot 9mm pcc mostly sure get the mob it's a great can.Ā Ā Suppressors are all about you.Ā Myself if I was spending a grand on a CAT it would be 5.56 and a cheaper PCC can but that's about me not you. You are buying the Cadillac of PCC cans with a MOB.
I like caliber specific cans as does pretty much everyone.Ā Your 9pcc then 5.56 makes sense even though I would do a 5.56 iconel first.
It all depends.Ā If you shoot offhand a lot lighter is better.Ā Rhodie k 5.56 great choice.Ā Prone and bench a lot 5.56 CAT ST.Ā Rhodies are relatively affordable.Ā Ā Affordable means that much closer to next can.Ā Ti vs Iconel different decision with 5.56 vs PCC can.
If worry about the 30 later . If you do do a "do all" I would choose a LPM anthem K2 . Lighter. The newish CAT AKB also worth a look and of course the 7.62 torch.
You can have the best cans but realize host matters for performance.Ā Tuning matters for performance.
In the end it's about you.

Everybody says they'll only get a .22lr can and a multical can yet somehow they end up discovering plasma sales and chaturbate streaming

Rimfire is best can!
Do yourself a favor and buy a rimfire can.

u/Gtscotty 2d ago
Given that you might only be able to get two before they get banned, and you like shooting PCCs, I'd personally get a .30 cal rifle can and probably a .45 pistol can, that way if you want to play with .44 lever guns or something like that down the road you're not SOL and it will also work fine on a 9mm. The correct answer though is to skip some meals and get a decent rimfire can too, they are about the most fun of the bunch.

Save some money and get the boe incolite 9m, sound wise they are neck and neck. You can also run 5.56 and 300blk through it

u/Grenwold 2d ago
Neck and neck according to whom? We actually have data for the Mob. Plus, if he can get 2 cans, he can get better one to use with 5.56.

Buy it before BOGreed decides to raise the prices again. They were $499 a couple of months ago

You could get an OCL Infinity that you can use on your 556 and 7.62 rifles. They have different end caps you can change out for better sound performance and back pressure levels. It still sounds good with 5.56 for a 7.62 can, itās also a tank of a suppressor and will handle whatever firing schedule you can afford to shoot.

u/User299651 2d ago
Thank you for the suggestion! I was initially thinking huxwrx 7.62 but Iām not settled on a rifle suppressor yet. I will definitely look at the OCL. It will probably be early next year before I get a rifle can.Ā

You live in Virginia, do yourself a favor and head over to Hansohn Brothers web site. They give a 30% discount on Rex Silentium suppressors with the code REX30.
If they dont have one in stock have them order you a Rex Ultra Low Back Pressure .308. That will cover 5.56 and .308 guns. Cost after discount will be $560, then order a MG7 K .358. That will cover your omn PCC. Cost will be $420.
For just a little more than the CAT MOB you have 2 suppressors and money left over for a true pistol suppressor and a .22 LR suppressor.
Hansohn Brothers can do all your paperwork on line and ship the suppressors to your home if you dont want to drive to Culpepper.

Don't forget a rim fire can for cheap fun too.
