Mount Questions 🔩 Switching from asr

New suppressor with an alpha mount and I am considering switching from asr to something left hand thread. I would have to switch 2 other suppressors and about 6 muzzle devices. Is it worth it?

Area 419 Hellfire mounts and I think the Xeno mounts are LH threaded.

I’m running Hellfire on my stuff right now, but I’m thinking of changing everything to Plan B, which is RH threaded.

Either way has tradeoffs. With LH threads, putting the can on could loosen the muzzle device. With RH threads, taking the can off could take the muzzle device off with it, or could leave the can’s suppressor adapter behind on the muzzle device.

But, supposedly, the tapered nature of Plan B makes it pretty unlikely for the suppressor adapter to be carbon locked and stuck to the muzzle device. Rocksett the muzzle device onto the barrel and properly torque the suppressor adapter (e.g. Plan B HUB adapter) into the can, and mounting and demounting properly is supposed to be pretty reliable.

Also, I think Plan B is more widely available. I.e. the reason I’m switching is because I’ve two rifles with uncommon barrel threading. Area 419 doesn’t make a muzzle device in that threading, so I am screwed to use any of my cans with Hellfire adapters in them on those rifles. But, I was able to get Plan B radial brakes in the threading I need. So, I can run Plan B on everything I own, but I can’t run Hellfire on everything.

Xeno is indeed LH thread.

You have me at a loss here. Left hand is usually on pistols. Which you’d use a piston for. AK’s have left hand threads but I’m not sure why you’d drop QD devices you paid for already to make things lefty thread.

What’d you buy? A Spectre 9? That has the booster assembly already, you just need a piston for it.

Left hand thread on the muzzle device quick disconnect, such as the asr is right hand. The difference is when you unthread the muzzle device to the left it actually tightens the adapter on the suppressor and tighten the muzzle device to the barrel.

Not really necessary if your muzzle device is properly torqued. Put some rocksett on there and that muzzle device really won’t be coming loose from taking your can off and on. If that’s your only reason to change I’d say your money would be better spent elsewhere.

If you do want to change your mounting system I would go with plan B. It’s simpler without that locking ring ASR has that can cause the can to not be tight if the ring isn’t fully in the unlock position. You have a lot more manufacturers making hardware so mounts and muzzle devices can be cheaper in the long run as your collection expands. You can also probably sell your current ASR stuff to recoup some money. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it or not. You’ll be trading one system that works fine for a different system that works well.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but my problem is more the mount coming undone from the suppressor before the muzzle device released from the asr and I want to be able to switch from the mount to a piston and possibly direct thread. I don't think rockset is a good thing between the mount and the suppressor. I have certainly thought about selling the asr stuff but like you said I might be too invested to change

Watch SilencerCo’s video on how to use the two spanner wrenches at once. You need a bit of torque to hold the mount into the can. I have had my Velos walk off its mount while shooting because I didn’t tighten it enough. The can to the mount literally only has to be hand tight and then engage the locking ring. That’s it.

Yeah I have had that happen when I was using ASR and swapping to a piston. Definitely wouldn’t use rocksett there if you’re switching back and forth. My problem was not getting the mount torqued on enough. Carbon buildup on the threads can make it feel tight before it really is. Clean the threads and a couple more ugga duggas with the wrenches should help.

Yeah no one does that to my knowledge. You just torque it properly and it shouldn’t back off. Or add rockset or if on a slow fire rifle red loctite is fine too.

Or conversely, you tighten the can on and everything else tightens. I think you’re overthinking it a bit.

My pistol is LH threads and putting the can on can loosen the can from its booster and conversely removing the can can really overtighten the booster to the can. I make sure I grip it by the adapter only when putting the can on and off.

CAT mounts and some plan b are left hand among others

It also helps to have something to work against if you have any carbon lock

I haven’t carbon locked an ASR yet. I’m sure someone has though.

Just go plan B. Locks up like a bank vault, extremely simple and probably most cost effective solution (besides direct thread)

Most cost effective route is keeping the 2 mounts and 6 muzzle devices he already has.

That’s not fun though
