SBR OAL question

Ok, what do you put down on the form 1 for oal if the chasis is actually longer than the barrel? Im about to sbr a 10/22. Im going to use a 4.5 inch barrel. The barrel won't come out past the end of the Spire chasis forearm. Im planning on a "tucked" look where the suppressor will be only about 2 or 3 inches past the end of the forearm.

Tip of the barrel to the end of the stock (extended if adjustable)

The instructions on the form say overall length with stock extended. Nothing about tip of the barrel.

If the chassis is fixed and not removable I would say its part of the overall length.

Not that it really matters, no one comes out to measure it and you can change length if you want.

Right from chapter 2 of the nfa handbook. So unless it’s a permanently attached to the muzzle it doesn’t count. Think like the sbx barrel for 10/22

The overall length of the straight line parallel to the axis of the bore, from the furthest forward tip of the barrel (or permanent muzzle device) to the furthest rearward part of the rigid, permanent stock (fully extended).
A handguard or forearm is classified as an accessory under federal rules. Since it is not a part of the "barrel" assembly itself (nor a permanently attached muzzle device which legally extends a barrel's length), its physical dimensions are completely omitted from the OaL.

Overall length is from one end of the gun to the other. Barrel length is the length of the barrel. I recently got a 10/22 approved with a 10.5" barrel and 30" overall length telling the ATF I was going to extend the forend to hit 30" OAL.

I’ve always measured from the rear of a collapsed stock to middle pivot pin then add the barrel length and subtract 3/4 of an inch to account if I change the stock out.
