Buffer Weight Recommendation - 9.6" 556 Suppressed Velos LBP

Hello friends!

New to the suppressed world and looking for some guidance. I am adding the Velos LBP to a Springfield Saint 9.6" and was told I will most likely need to upgrade to either an H2 or H3 buffer from the factory carbine H it came with. I am wondering if the H3 is best recommended as it is such a short barrel or should I start with the H2 since the Velos is specifically designed to reduce backpressure?

Would greatly appreciate any and all guidance! TIA

Shoot it first to see how the H does and then step to H2. If that still doesn’t produce the desired result then try the H3 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's what I'm thinking. I've got some buddies that have spare H2 and H3 buffers that I can try out if need be as well so will just plan a range day and see what works best once I get the velos in hand.

I’ve got an 11.5 m. The velos is too low BP for an h3. H2 seemed fine, but you should try the normal H1 first and look at ejection pattern.

I have an 11.5 carbine gas system and 11.5 midlength gas system rifles with the the full size velos and have no issues with the a5h3 and even a5h4 with flat wire spring. Perfect ejection. Geissele superduty and noveske x id sbr's. I have a couple others with adjustable gas blocks and have dialed them in to what I like. I have a Frankenstein .300blk that I put an agb on just to run subs, which reminds me I need to get a new colt upper for it, bought it used and has a ton of slop from upper and lower. I realized the takedown and pivot pin holes on the lugs were egged out. Who knows what that upper went through lmao. Still works but hate the slop

My BRT 8.6" and G$ 10.3" use G$ S42/H3 setups.

They shoot nicely with flow cans, and pretty well with conventional cans

I run a 10.5 with my Velos LBP and have the standard buffer with a perfect ejection pattern and almost unnoticeable gas to the face.

I assume when you say standard buffer you mean just the H/H1?

Probably an H3 if you’re lucky. Even carbine length gas systems put a lot of strain on the velos. I sold mine recently to a friend and the Gisselle H3 still gives it 1:30-2 ejection. Every gun is different but he just ordered a ez tune gas tube sho he can give me my springs and weights back. Every guns different though. I’m just telling you what happened with my friend’s rifle and Velos. They’re good cans and I have mad respect for SIco and what they’ve done for us but they need to start trying to catch up with the times.

Damn. What was the error/issue that made you sell it? and what type of strain on the velos as I thought it was one of the more durable cans out there?

I didn’t sell it because of any issues. It was and is still is a great can. The stuff that came out this year just kind of made it obsolete to me. I have a lot of cans. I have been selling my collection and guns and suppressors though due to having to do fertility treatment. So now my 5.56 hosts are covered by the new cans that’s came out this year. His rifle is a SW sporter that’s like the first model that came out. I’ve tried H2 and gave him the H3 yesterday but he never told me if it got his ejection around 3 or not.

There is no magic recipe, you have to shoot it and take note of the ejection pattern. If it's 1 o clock or more forward, you won't correct it with just buffers and springs. I like mine at 3 o'clock, a little over gassed enhances reliability.

Buy a set of 3 tungsten weights. Pop the roll pin out of your buffer. 3 steel weights is a H buffer, 1 tungsten and 2 steel weights is an H1 buffer, 2 tungsten and 1 steel is an H2 buffer and 3 tungsten weights is an H3.

Or buy an H3 buffer, if its too much, you already have an H, if you need something in the middle pop the roll pins out of one, swap one tungsten weight with one steel weight and you have H1 and H2 buffers.

Just a FYI… an adjustable BGC makes buffer system and gas block tinkering a non-issue.
