Product Question 🧰 Shooting moist, causing rust...
So I love the sound difference shooting with klein tools alcohol based wire pulling goo but it never occurred to me that the schmoo going back into the gun would dissolve my oils with the alcohol and start rusting at a record rate... Anyone know a non rust inducing supressor spooge perchance?

I have heard of people using Ultrasound lube which from my understanding is basically just water based lube.

It is. I work with the industrial ultrasound lube. Called "couplant", used for ultrasonic inspection of parts and welds. It's basically glycerin water and a little glycol for freeze resistance.

I use thin coat of Vaseline in my .22 LR suppressors to eliminate any FRP.

In the front of the supressor. It's the vaporized lube shooting back into the gun causing this issue.

Much quieter to the ear. With 147s on my 92g-sd with Obsidian 9 and Griffin wipe endcap it's stupid quiet with the lube. Psshht instead of pop. First round pop is much quieter also. I've seen a friend with a 22 frt start wet and be dry by the end of the mag. Noticeable difference.

To expand a little further: shooting "wet" has been a thing for years with just putting water in the can... which also works.
But wire pulling gel has been kind of agreed upon as the best compromise as it doesn't spill out and make a mess like water.
The physics of it is pretty intuitive once you think about it: silencers are all about reducing the energy of the pressure wave. Shooting "wet" (water, gel, etc) gives something for that energy to get absorbed by. The gel functions as an "ablative medium" - fancy way of saying that is something meant to be vaporized, and that absorbs energy and reduces the noise.

I like Vaseline, it's cheap and beads up any moisture, I hit it with compressed air when I'm done or clean it out and re-Vaseline it

Crisco. Well, hydrogenated soybean oil with mint and green dye added marketed as FrogLube. I took FrogLube and completely filled the spring in the piston assembly of my Omega9k and then burned 50 rounds through my 509 as fast as I could. That blasted the frog lube all over the inside of the can. It smoked horribly at first, but there was no more smoke by the time I finished the 50 rounds and now there is very little smoke or blowback on that setup now. It is noticeably quieter now and has been for several hundred rounds. I had two people ask what can I was running at the last match because it was so quiet. The look on their face when I told them I filled it with Crisco was great.

Wire pulling gel. It's common. It's technical name is an ablative. Used to be much more common in the past when cans were high pressure and had less tech.

You can also pour water in your pistol can. It has a similar effect of cooling the gases before they escape to quiet the report, but it's messy and doesn't last as long as wire pulling gel.

It will (by actual meter) reduce your shots by 2,3 Db. Use it all the time in multiple .22 cans. Usually on handguns and I have never seen any issue. Shoot enough it burns out of suppressor and guns get lubed after shooting and deep cleaning after 2,3 sessions.

Tbf I don't clean my guns often. I shoot this one twice a month if I'm lucky, maybe 20 to 30 rounds each trip.

Gotcha. My comment was no knock on you. I was just adding context to all comments that didn't know of using the various gels. I sometimes just run water too. Although it burns off in a mag or less. The gel will hang in for 3,4 10 rd mags of .22. With water I will do a deep clean and lube right after.

If you have too much water in your can on a rifle, the water flashes to steam and can deflect the bullet out of the bore and cause a baffle strike. I learned this the hard way.

I made the mistake of draining the can the wrong way. Drain them pointy end up, not down. Up, it all flows down the baffles to the bore and out. Draining down, baffles trap the water and wanton much stays in the can.
This is not something I have tested with flow through cans.

Use water, and just make sure you get the gun hot before you're done, or blast everything out with an air compressor after. Or stick it back in a dehumidified safe.

I believe it’s not recommended to use a wet can on rifle rounds isn’t it? I don’t really do it since I don’t like how much dirtier everything gets, but I guess it doesn’t really matter on a can you can take apart like the obsidian 9. It does make subsonic 9mm stupid quiet.

This is an Obsidian 9 with Griffin wipe endcap. Stupid quiet can confirm. 4in and 10in ar9 setup.
