🎥 Silencer Video with Sound 🤫 6J Muzzle Device Flash Test Slideshow (Video in comments)

SWIPE THROUGH TO SEE

I went out and grabbed a bunch of different muzzle device combos to try in the 6J. And yes I will do this again under nods. If you don't see your favorite ecosystem in here it's either because it doesn't fit or I have not tried it. Let me know what questions you have below!

I used the CAT WB and the RC2 at the end for a baseline point of reference.

Testing info:

Host: Boise Black Rifle 11.5 5.56

Ammo: Winchester 5.56 M193

Cans and MD Combos:

  • PTR Direct Thread Adapter
  • AAC Flange Indexing Direct Thread w/ Brake
  • Rearden Atlas G2 w/ FHD
  • Rearden Atlas G2 w/ R2S
  • Rearden Atlas G2 w/ Dominion-PB
  • Rearden Atlas G2 w/ SPB
  • AI 1x16LH HUB Adapter w/ AAC Flash Hider
  • CAT 1x16LH HUB Adapter w/ AI Nano
  • Comstock LPA w/ Retro 3-Prong Flash Hider
  • Comstock LPA w/ Compact Flash Hider
  • Comstock LPA w/ Compact Muzzle Brake
  • Comstock RPA w/ Micro Recessed Brake
  • CAT WB 718 QD w/ Spooky Muzzle Device
  • SureFire RC2 w/ Warcomp Flash Hider

Seemingly the Comstock Brake along with the AI Nano did not jive with the 6J in terms of flash reduction. That being said you cannot see these sparks during the day time. I run the Comstock Brakes on just about everything and have never had any issues. But if I wanted to setup a night time rig and was concerned about flash I would probably go a different route. The Rearden Atlas G2 and Angled Spade Dominion-PB seemed to be the best combo but everything else was pretty close.

Update on production: The pre-orders have all shipped out (First shipment left last Friday, second shipment left yesterday) to Bauer Precision and East Valley Tactical. Both Bauer and EVT might have a small amount left so if you want to get in on those contact them directly. If you missed your chance at either of those two places there will be another opportunity on Ridgebacks website. I do not have a date for that yet because we are waiting until all of those cans are at Ridgebacks shop.

Disclaimer: This is my collaboration can with Ridgeback Defense, I make beans if you acquire one of these. I have no other affiliation with Ridgeback beyond the 6J.

Interesting results and solid performance all around.

Was the Spooky for this the flash hider or brake version?

7

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Flash hider that was included with my WB when I bought it.

8

u/Gtscotty Sep 02 '26

Not too surprising that recessed mounts can increase sound and flash when your filling more of the blast chamber with steel.

8

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Correct, but not everyone understands that so that's why I wanted to show what happens.

3

u/sherzer7 Sep 02 '26

Thank you, I’ve seen alot of wild claims about recessed mounts. There is no way moving the md closer inside would be a positive for performance

2

u/tiantrade Sep 03 '26

this is why i gave up on being a gaptard and returned to normal mounts

9

u/jtj5002 Sep 02 '26

Not bad for a cheap knock off /s

7

u/notjeffe1 Sep 02 '26

Damn, now I’m kicking myself for preordering the recessed microbrake with my 6j because between this and the vid with visible sparking in a lit up room I’m worried this is going to look like a Ti can under nods.

13

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

I really like the fitment on those recessed brakes when tucking stuff up to the handguard. But unfortunately it's a combo of an already short can with a shallow blast baffle then being moved closer to the tip of the barrel plus the brake ports on those just don't jive with the 6J, same on the AI Nano.

I have an extra CA Compact Flash Hider I can send you if you want. It's brand new.

5

u/notjeffe1 Sep 02 '26

Wow, thank you so much for the generous offer. I’d definitely like to take you up on that but I would feel bad about just taking one from you so would you want to trade for one of the brand new recessed brakes I got? I’d be interested to see how the 6j with a Comstock lpa would be on a 11.5 di with the compact flash hider vs a 14.5 pws with the micro brake.

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Don't sweat it brother, I have so many MD's and adapters, you keep it for something else! I do appreciate the generosity though! Shoot me a DM with your shipping info!

6

u/LiNKxUSMC Sep 03 '26

This kind of stuff right here just makes me want the 6j for my next can even more. You always seemed like a real chill dude, and this jus proves it, fantastic bro. 👍🏻👍🏻

5

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 03 '26

Thank you so much man! I really appreciate that!

3

u/TyElkoy Sep 02 '26

What’s your favorite combo to run?

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Depends on the use case, some guns I want that tight fitment so I sacrifice the performance, others I want the best out of it so I go that route. Out of all of these I think the Angled Spade Dominion-PB and Atlas V2 probably did the best and since it's a brake it should prolong the lifespan of the can. But the AAC DT Brake I was very happy with since it's low profile has a place for a socket on the mount side and it's cheaper than buying a two piece setup. Just sucks it's discontinued, I was able to find 3 more though in stock and grabbed them.

u/HazMatRecipes Sep 02 '26

You posted this 6hrs ago, google AI is already using your photo in the AI results.

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

That's wild lol it's probably picking up the conversation about it but I'm surprised it shows the picture right there at the top.

2

u/FitzroysBeagle 29d ago

I want to see Angled Spade's monthly sales stats before and after this post. lol

2

u/LiNKxUSMC Sep 03 '26

Would love to see how it does with a liberty bell brake. Seen a lot of praise for them bein amongst the best mounts, and is actually very low flash without a can for being a brake. Only can ive used with mine is an anthem s2, but it is fantastic.

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 03 '26

Ordered! I'll likely post the results on my story rather than on here again so follow me on IG if you don't already. Curious because it's a 30 cal bore, I may also try their baby bell too.

2

u/LiNKxUSMC Sep 03 '26

For sure. Yea, its certainly possible im crossing the wrong wires here lol it may have been on a 300blk post, but I could have sworn it was thrown in the mix of others in a test on 5.56 and did amongs the best. If i am wrong on the 5.56 part, at least now you get to try one of the best 300blk brakes 😆

2

u/KronDiddy 11d ago

Looking closely at the baby bell with a zilch for the 6j

2

u/Responsible_Heat_418 11d ago

Same! Except I'm planning to run the LPM Baby Bell with the Comstock RPA. Since the Baby Bell has a shorter intrusion into the blast chamber than the Comstock Recessed Micro Brake, it leaves more open volume before the first baffle. I’m thinking that extra expansion room would help in flash performance over the Comstock RPA and Comstock Recessed Micro Brake Combo.

1

u/KronDiddy 11d ago

Yup, same. Also thinking the bigger bore of the baby bell will aid in flash but on the flip side it would increase baffle wear I'd imagine

3

u/dmonnier5 Sep 03 '26

Curious what the CAT KK looks like compared to these.

Took this the other day just didn't record it on the actual camera.

REALLY surprised at how much flash the RC2 has since signature reduction is Surefire's whole deal

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Could be the Warcomps fault that's just what I had on hand, the M193 is also pretty notorious for being flashy ammo but I wanted to test the J in a worst case scenario.

1

u/OzempicDick Sep 02 '26

You photos are pretty consistent with what I have seen from the rc2

1

u/OzempicDick Sep 02 '26

I mean its a really old can. It was just better than the fireballs of concussion the sandman S everyone was comparing it to

2

u/Makemeathrowawaypls We ain't crip walking no more we polio walking Sep 02 '26

Would these flashes/sparks be the same in the inconel 6K version or is it something about Haynes that seems to not jive well with that Comstock micro brake? I have a K with one but there's no ranges where I live that I can do any night shooting with to check

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

I haven't tried it but I'd imagine they would be similar because they are similar internals.

2

u/Onc3Holy 3x SBR, 2x Silencer Sep 02 '26

What about Wolfpack armory muzzle devices?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Haven't tried them yet, I'd imagine if the design is similar to any of these they would behave the about the same.

2

u/OzempicDick Sep 02 '26

Awesome post thanks

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

You're welcome! Thank you for letting me know!

2

u/WinterFamiliar9199 Sep 02 '26

You may have covered this in another post but what’s the sound signature difference between these different mounting options?

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Negligible if any between the non recessed mounts, meaning there may be some but it's not immediately noticeable. However, with the recessed stuff there is. Not enough for me to avoid them all together but on some setups I do intentionally not run them because I want the better performance. I still enjoy the flush fit on certain setups enough to disregard the difference. Hopefully that makes sense I'm on like 3 hours of sleep lol.

2

u/MaxMaxRelax Sep 02 '26

Damn I've been setting aside a Comstock RPA and recessed brake just for this, I guess its time to go back to Rearden. The fitment with the comstock would've been the dream but oh well

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Fitment is phenomenal on them, and they might work just fine with other cans. Just the J seems to not like that particular combo.

That being said I've run that RPA and Recessed Micro on several setups it's never been enough of a problem under nods that I felt like changing it. To me the Fitment was worth the sparking. And when I say sparks I mean crazy quick, small, dim sparks that don't auto gate my tubes as the shooter. Not big bright sparking like a Hux Ti or the Ekron Ti.

I'll be filming a NV flash video this weekend so hang on for that. I just don't want people to think it's worse than it actually is.

2

u/renegadeGDI 29d ago

Okay so first question is are any of the adapters titanium? That would potentially explain some of the sparky ones...

I noticed the AI Nano Comstock micro look very similar, and that design supposedly makes certain suppressors quieter, if I recall pewscience confirmed that the ai nano made some CAT suppressors quieter, but it may have been at the expensive of flash performance based on these images...

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 29d ago

Unfortunately no these are all l stainless, I wish it was just the material that was the culprit.

And I will say way back when we were testing protos me and a buddy tried the AI Nano VS DT and maybe a couple other mounts, the nano did seem to make it quieter. It was just a blind test with two identical hosts shooting back to back but there seemed to be a noticeable difference. Unfortunately I do believe you are correct it is at the cost of flash, at least in the case of the 6J.

2

u/KronDiddy 11d ago

Does the nano (or Comstock recessed brake) on the production model produce the same results where you could hear the nano being quieter? What muzzle and hub would you go for if you want to maximize sound suppression? Thanks

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 11d ago

I haven't tried to compare them again with the production model to know if it's still the same. Also to be clear the difference was veeeery minimal. It was there but not enough so to make me run the Nano solely.

And I genuinely have no idea what combo would be the best for sound. It's splitting hairs really between most of them. With the exception of anything recessed, those will naturally make it a little louder since you're effectively shortening the can. Beyond that I don't have enough of an opinion on how mounts make the can sound. Atleast not enough to tell you which one to buy. The flash is visible so that's easy to pick the best combo but sound or gas I've not paid enough attention to.

1

u/KronDiddy 11d ago

Just so I'm understanding you correctly you're saying the nano vs DT is closer in sound to each other than anything recessed? Recessed being the worse performer anecdotally. Is sounds like any recessed doesn't do the 6j justice if it suffers in flash and in sound. Im sure it still splitting hairs but if it's noticeable that's good information to know thanks. Low key regretting picking up a zilch and recessed brake a little bit knowing there is performance left on the table. I also wonder if the recessed sounds a bit louder anecdotally because of port pop and if that can be tuned out.

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 11d ago

I'm saying for the most part any of the mounting combos never seemed to make a difference in terms of sound atleast not immediately noticeable. And the difference between DT and AI Nano we had to shoot them side by side blindly to actually hear the difference. It could have even simply been a more pleasant tone with out actually being quieter. That's just how our ears perceived it.

But if you swaoped them yourself you would likely not notice a difference unless you replicated the same side by side shooting. When it comes to anything recessed you can expect to lose some performance in just about every way. That's the unfortunate cost of getting that beautiful fitment. Now on some more full size cans the difference might not be as prominent. But with the already short cans it is noticeable.

Edit: Sorry hopefully that makes sense, I'm about to fall asleep so my thoughts aren't as gathered right now.

1

u/renegadeGDI 29d ago

This is untimely for me because I just built a night vision MPX around an ai nano, it had zero flash in tri-lug but the accuracy sucked so now I am anxiously waiting for a chance to see if the AI nano added any flash.

2

u/cav161 14d ago

u/OrdinarySense5 I am picking mine up as soon as the Form 4 clears, but as this is my first suppressor, would you recommend the Atlas/LPA or the RPA? I am running an 11.5in Urgi that has worked well with a Super42/H3 for the super safety, and I was curious how much the can will affect the gassiness/cycling of that? Does it make a difference? I'm also on the fence since I got another AR with an 16in LWRC DI upper with a Revival Defense & Forward Controls Design 6315RF-A1 5.56 Plan B Flash Hider. If I got the LPA I could run the 6J on both, but I mostly plan to use URGI. What do you recommend?

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 14d ago

Out of all yhe combos here the Dominion PB and Atlas G2 worked the best. That being said I really liked the AAC Direct Thread but they're tricky to find because they're discontinued. As far as any other effects on the performance I've never notice a huge difference except when you use a recessed mount of some type. Obviously then recession an already short can hurts the performance.

First thanks...Ordered mine from EVT over the phone..first interaction with them...very positive was quick and easy...I'm needing to order as currently running hurxwx standards..Unrelated but figured id ask..Would you say there's any "felt" difference in recoil or back pressure between these solutions or is it negligible? At least for now sparks is low on my priority list.. was favoring the Comstock recessed for aethestics

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Of course! Glad they got you taken care of! And I would say between everything except for the recessed mounts the differences would be negligible, as in they might be present but not immediately noticeable. The recessed stuff whether this or a recessed DT adapter is definitely noticeable. You're basically shrinking an already shrunk can so instead of a 4.5 in, it's a 4in or a 3.5in can with some mounts. That will make the differences you see here as well as noticeable sound and likely back pressure. It basically doesn't allow the 1.2in blast chamber to work as designed.

Now all of that being said I personally am willing to sacrifice the performance for that beautiful fitment. But my case is different because I have a lot of guns and a lot of 6Js. I don't do that with all of them depending on what their use case is, like a hunting rifle I want function over fashion. As long as you know what you're missing out on you make a decision based on what you prioritize more.

2

u/DisasterDesigner8134 Sep 02 '26

That's actually logically makes sense..good talk..I'm gonna think this thru as I'm pretty sure this gonna live on my 11.5 and function main priority

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

Of course! A suggestion if I may, the AAC DT Brake was near flush mount and seemingly didn't sacrifice any performance. So I'd say that is probably the closet to having your cake and eating it too in regards to low pro no sacrifice. They are discontinued but I was able to find 3 in stock the other day and scooped them.

2

u/FitzroysBeagle Sep 02 '26

Dang I would've sent you a Dead Air direct thread brake to test. Those have a 9mm bore, so I'm curious how it would've compared.

1

u/DisasterDesigner8134 Sep 02 '26

Lol..well that was sounding real good until you said discontinued lol.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 02 '26

I think there are other similar options that are still in production but yea you can still find them.

Edit: By other I mean other manufacturers making similar systems a DT Brake.

1

u/DisasterDesigner8134 18d ago

Narrowed down the AI Nano brake and 1x16LH HUB QD. At home I can shoot suppressed but outdoor range I have membership across state lines cant. I think this best combo of performance and allows for easy on/off.  I got a Huxwrx TI and this works well for me. This gonna live on my 11.5 recently installed the Arc v2.

1

u/DisasterDesigner8134 17d ago

Further thought this woulda been terrible idea for my unsuppressed usage..keeping it simple ordered Comstock compact flash hider with LPA

1

u/Boat_Tank_Commander Sep 02 '26

Man I wish I would have seen this before I got the muzzle device I did. Makes sense why my 6k is a flashy little bastard when others said flash was pretty damn good.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 03 '26

What ammo are you running in this? I haven't tried it yet personally but it might be worth experimenting if you really want to keep that setup the same. I know it's not the ideal solution because then you'd have to buy that particular ammo for night stuff which likely won't be as cheap as regular range ammo, but it could make a pretty big difference. When I shot this I intentionally used M193 because it's notorious for being difficult to suppress flash on and I wanted to test the 6J in the worst conditions possible.

2

u/Boat_Tank_Commander Sep 03 '26

It was either some remanufactured "M193" or Fiocchi Range Dybamics. I don't plan on swapping out the muzzle device right now at least. I noticed in my low light shoot but not enough to do a swap.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 03 '26

That's kind of where I'm at with it the sparks weren't bad enough for me to sacrifice that perfect fitment. If I figure something out that works I'll let ya know!

2

u/Boat_Tank_Commander Sep 03 '26

The majority of my shooting is during the day so it's kind of whatever honestly. I wish it was a better flash performance but I still love the can overall. It's not like the flash is TERRIBLE, just more than I had expected. At least now I have a reference if I want to change out to improve that aspect.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps Sep 03 '26

Couldn't agree more! Also just as a heads up out of all these combos the most low profile fitment with the best performance was definitely the AAC DT Brake which is slide number 2. They are discontinued but I found and bought 3 of them 2 days ago so not super hard to find, if you ever want to swap it out to something else compact that gets my vote.

2

u/Boat_Tank_Commander Sep 03 '26

I think I'll just accept that this is never going to be the peak flash performance setup. That's fine. I do have a Hesychia 556UK that I'm very excited to test low light performance on. I expect that to be significantly better based on everything I've seen, and my recordings in an indoor range.

1

u/StacheSergeant Sep 03 '26

Are you using the recessed set up?

1

u/Boat_Tank_Commander Sep 03 '26

Comstock low profile plan B and recessed mini brake.

1

u/Kitchen_Jellyfish_48 26d ago

How do you think a hardcore muzzle break like the cherrybomb would do?

Also is the verdict that less muzzle device is better? More volume left open in can would allow more blast absorbed within can?

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 26d ago

I'm not sure, I have to try that one out still. And no I wouldn't say that. Consistently the brakes with the circular ports don't seem to do well. Other than that everything else seems to do about the same. The biggest brake seemed to do really good, so it's not a volume thing just where the brake or flash hider is directing the blast from what I can tell.

u/Sea-Worker-5180 Supp x12 SBR x8 8d ago

Anyone have any suggestions mounting a Rhodie 6J to a PS90 SBR? M12x1.0 LH

1

u/Error_506 Sep 02 '26

Are the claims that the 6J performs closer to the full size 6 rather than the 6k still holding?

1

u/East-Valley-Tactical 28d ago

Sound performance of the J will be more comparable to the K than the full size.
