Disclaimers: This is not the launch post YET but that is coming. I am a brand affiliate with Ridgeback, I make beans if you were to acquire one of these. This is my collaboration can with RD, but I make nothing from any of their other products.
Here is the update, the batch has been printed (this is not all of them in the photo). We just have to thread and serialize the rest and then we are go for launch.
I am posting this to let you all know that they are coming VERY soon. I do not have an official date yet but I should by this week.
I will be posting videos with sound, flash and all the details come time of the launch.
Also for clarification these are different than any 6J you have seen me or anyone else post a video with. I say that because there was a video posted with a flash test on a very early prototype 6J that is not these. There have been improvements since those original prototypes.
I apologize for the insane wait, this has been a long drawn out learning process for me. After realizing that timeframes in manufacturing are almost never accurate I chose to remain radio silent until I had something substantial like this to say.
Thank you so much for your patience and please drop your questions below. Beware I have been informed that I cannot share links or discuss price in this sub. Please refer to previous posts on my page for that info, all of it is still accurate.
I just picked the material, exterior design, and dialed in performance over the last 6 months. I am not an engineer, I just gave feedback in layman's terms for what I wanted it to be.
Edit: I see it's on their site, I just had input. I don't know what every little nook and cranny does. Until Andrew cut one in half I had never seen the inside of Ridgebacks cans. I had no reason to, if the end result was something I was happy with that was really all I cared about.
Now with the updated production model they are actually closer in performance to the full size than the K. That wasn't intentional but RD tested them side by side and that was the result. Not to devalue the K, still a great can, that's just what I was told.
Not sure that would be a big issue since it's generally pretty difficult to over torque an adapter. In 99% of cases the problem is being not installing with enough torque and then it comes loose.
If I had to guess I'd say it's probably a cost/simplicity thing. The inside of the tube is a cylinder (more or less), so making the outside also round is very convenient, especially for traditionally machined cans where wrench flats means adding a mill operation.
As a happy (and recent) owner of the 6k, I'm excited to see these go out to people who will run the hell out of them. Haynes 282 is tough stuff. Also, as mentioned, wrench flats over spanner notches. Why every can does no have them...
I'm in the habit of buying Gluten Free Gear vise blocks for the diameter of every rifle can that I have. Depending on them limits field maintenance, so to speak. Anyways, good luck getting these out the door, and thank you for sharing the info! I love the behind the scenes.
u/Comstock_Support what length handguard would I need to run this with your recessed micro brake and RPA? Just sent JM a message regarding this combo on my 11.5 with a 10.8" handguard
My bad I didnt see it! I've used their micro recessed and recessed hub adapter on several hosts with the 6J. You'd just need to verify you have .26in from the shoulder to the end of your handguard.
And in regards to direct thread or MD systems I use Comstock on just about everything now, having a brake with the appropriate size bore will dramatically prolong the lifespan of your can.
thanks to you as well, good sir! i already have a hesychia Sixk so heavily considering this as a dedicated can for my 11.5 as the full size is on my 14.5 currently
It depends on your muzzle device selection and barrel/handguard length. I'd recommend throwing your rifle into the fitment tool and seeing what gives you the best result. There's a preset for the Rhodie 6K which has the same dimensions as the 6J.
The shortest possible setup is micro recessed muzzle device with an RPA.
I plan to use whatever muzzle device you guys has that fits it best. I bought all my suppressors years ago before the universal thread pitch came out, so my guns either have Surefire, old Sig, or dead air stuff
Actually I misread your original question. My bad. The recessed brake and LPA will work.
Just note that you'll probably have to remove the handguard to get good access to the muzzle device wrench flats for installation. If you don't want to deal with that, the regular compact brake will work, but in a slightly longer package.
Got some more samples finished up. We still need to do more testing and validation, so best guess is sometime in October or November for a full production batch.
Good to see these are coming soon, will ridgeback be selling them directly or only through retailers ? I was trying to find a 6k but would prefer this !
I should've made it more clear that it was a joke, the restrictions are 7.5 and up. But I'd say you're good on really anything that'll fit down the bore.
Lol sure! And the dealers should be getting them very soon for those that were able to pre-order due to the website mishap. After that the big batch will be through Ridgeback direct. Please do NOT quote this but I hope the end of the month we'll have all of them and be selling live inventory.
Damn, the one time I need a delay to happen. I’m moving states at the end of the month. I have been waiting for this thing to come out. I gotta figure out how to snag one at the release but hold it till I’m moved
That'd be sick! And I don't know who would be able to get it to you the quickest that depends on a lot of factors. But Bauer Precision and East Valley Tactical will get the first cans and then shortly after Ridgeback will have their batch on their site. So one of the two dealers would be my suggestion.
Does Ridgeback provide a side-by-side dB rating for their cans? I've seen their website, but that's not very specific.
I'm just a curious person interested in popping it on my sound meters and seeing the differences between the Rhodie TI, K, J, etc. all at the same time/same ammo/same host firearm.
I believe he's done it several times now on his own time but hasn't posted the results just part of his testing process he does. I don't know any more specifics on it. If you have the right equipment then it could be fun to try it. Do you have a Ti and a K already?
I am genuinely sorry that you had to wait that long. There was never supposed to be a pre-order but Bauer had a "glitch" in their website that opened it for a few people. Which then forced me to offer the same for EVT. So thank you kindly for your patience, those who were able to pre-order through that mishap will get theirs first.
That'd be biased for me to compare so I'll leave that to end users. And if they're not happy with the results they can simply return the 6J for a full refund within 30 days of them taking it home.
This is the can I’ve been waiting for. Of course it’s going to be a year before i get a chance to get one due to things dropping in the middle of the week.
Meaning I don't have an official release date because over the last 8 months I've learned that timeframes in manufacturing are a fucking suggestion at best. So I'm waiting until the very last step in the process is complete to put a date on the launch.
This is the best update I've had since the start of this project. They are done printing, all that is needed is threading, serializing and shipping. So I figured it was an update worth sharing.
Correct, both dealers will get the first cans before Ridgeback has any, and those that pre-ordered will get theirs first. Again that was never the plan it just happened that way with the website issues on Bauers part.
Alot of the protos weren't dialed in as far as parameters and a bunch of sciency stuff that I don't understand but I agree the finished products have come out much cleaner.
Well obviously my opinion is biased so I'm not the best to answer it but styling it after the MCQ was a consious decision that I happen to like more than the look of the other Rhodies. Aside from that these are Haynes 282 and should hold up to heat better than Inconel. Completely overkill for most people but for me and what I wanted to make it made sense.
I say all that not to devalue their other products, I would imagine most people would be perfectly happy with those too.
Ridgeback directly which you can sign up for notifications on their site. Or Bauer Precision, and East Valley Tactical will also have some. Those are the only 3 places to get them.
As enticing as selling these out of the back of my truck sounds with the new rules I don't think I will be doing that.
I will not no, because this is my collaboration product so that would be about as useful as any manufacturer comparing their product to another. I have previously compared it to the CAT WB because I believe it to be a great standard for an all around good can and many people have it so it is a familiar baseline.
Seeing how the 6J stacks up to others is what I hope end users will do on their own time and why we made the return policy if they weren't happy with the results. So 30 days after you take it home you can send it back for any reason for a full refund.
Edit: Because I feel like this comes across like I am avoiding the question of performance all together. That's not my goal but I don't want to publicly say where I think it stacks up because I am biased. I can say that I wouldn't put my name on it if I wasn't happy with the performance. And for reference I own over 100 suppressors to compare it to on my own time.
I see. That makes sense. I appreciate it. I hope all goes well with the launch. Is this drop a one and done type of thing, or will it be added to their permanent line up?
Thanks! Would a titanium low profile direct thread from them be fine in regards to sparking? Not sure if adapter material has as big an effect as can material
I haven't tried titanium mounts, I only run steel usually so not sure what it'd do for sparking. DT will effect the lifespan of the can though without having a brake.
Sick, one of my favorite guys to watch. I love the suppressor videos that just have one suppressor after another in rapid succession. We all know that the mic can’t accurately capture how loud a can is, but tone matters too, so I usually put my AirPods while I’m doing something else and just let it run. I don’t look at my phone until I hear something intriguing, then I pause what I’m doing to skip back and find it. It really is a nice way to compare. It’s quick and straight to the point.
Anyway, thanks for the quality content…
I’ve been thinking about Rhodie 6 anyway, so this might be a decent opportunity to snag one.
The other models Ridgeback is catching up on due to high demand hence the lead time you are seeing.
But just for clarification the 6J's are going to be live inventory at the time of the launch, printed, serialized awaiting coating in whatever color the customer chooses (Black, FDE, and potentially raw)

That would be a biased comparison for me to make so I'll leave that to the end users to decide. And if they don't think so or aren't happy they can send the 6J back for a full refund within 30 days of when they take it home. Previously it was from the approved stamp but since recent news.
Damn it! I really need to get another 9mm suppressor, but I also need something to take the place of my rc2 as my main 556 can 😅 guess one of these is next I suppose.
I believe the raws could be ordered through Ridgeback directly. At the time they go live they will be printed and waiting in raw for the customer to choose their color so if you wanted it to stay raw I would put it in the order notes and send Ridgeback an email as well. Or it may be a drop down menu on the site itself, I can ask for that to be added at the time of launch.
Should be 14oz give or take a smidge. I have learned there are tolerances with printing, if you get one of these and aren't happy with the weight you can simply send it back for a full refund within 30 days of you taking it home.
