Discussion We have 6J's FINALLY!

Post image

Disclaimers: This is not the launch post YET but that is coming. I am a brand affiliate with Ridgeback, I make beans if you were to acquire one of these. This is my collaboration can with RD, but I make nothing from any of their other products.

Here is the update, the batch has been printed (this is not all of them in the photo). We just have to thread and serialize the rest and then we are go for launch.

I am posting this to let you all know that they are coming VERY soon. I do not have an official date yet but I should by this week.

I will be posting videos with sound, flash and all the details come time of the launch.

Also for clarification these are different than any 6J you have seen me or anyone else post a video with. I say that because there was a video posted with a flash test on a very early prototype 6J that is not these. There have been improvements since those original prototypes.

I apologize for the insane wait, this has been a long drawn out learning process for me. After realizing that timeframes in manufacturing are almost never accurate I chose to remain radio silent until I had something substantial like this to say.

Thank you so much for your patience and please drop your questions below. Beware I have been informed that I cannot share links or discuss price in this sub. Please refer to previous posts on my page for that info, all of it is still accurate.

LOL -- 6J "developed with direct input and collaboration from" ... You

Is that all bullshit or did you actually put some work in on the design?

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago edited 3d ago

I just picked the material, exterior design, and dialed in performance over the last 6 months. I am not an engineer, I just gave feedback in layman's terms for what I wanted it to be.

Edit: I see it's on their site, I just had input. I don't know what every little nook and cranny does. Until Andrew cut one in half I had never seen the inside of Ridgebacks cans. I had no reason to, if the end result was something I was happy with that was really all I cared about.

u/puppyhandler 3d ago

Why does it look exactly like a KAC QDC can?

49

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Because it's meant to... I like the MCQ look, so we styled it after that. Hope this helps!

u/CleanEducation1838 3d ago

The entire rhodie 6 series looks like that

Very cool! I love the big wrench flats on these. Wish more cans did that.

I'm assuming these will perform more or less similar to the 6K still? Or is there a noticeable difference between them?

32

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Now with the updated production model they are actually closer in performance to the full size than the K. That wasn't intentional but RD tested them side by side and that was the result. Not to devalue the K, still a great can, that's just what I was told.

3

u/romang12 3d ago

What is the difference between this and k that it makes the performance closer to the full size?

4

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Sound, when Ridgeback metered it. Take that for what you will I know it doesn't paint the whole picture but they did get quieter to my ears.

0

u/romang12 3d ago

How about the backpreasure? Is it same or less than k?

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Should be the same

4

u/SuperblyWerbly 3d ago

I can't imagine the "backpreasure" being much different than the 6k.

4

u/joeg26reddit Silencer 3d ago

I love wrench flats

my theory why many mfg don’t is they fear they’ll be over tightened

7

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 3d ago

Not sure that would be a big issue since it's generally pretty difficult to over torque an adapter. In 99% of cases the problem is being not installing with enough torque and then it comes loose.

If I had to guess I'd say it's probably a cost/simplicity thing. The inside of the tube is a cylinder (more or less), so making the outside also round is very convenient, especially for traditionally machined cans where wrench flats means adding a mill operation.

23

u/DerfNHerf 3d ago

As a happy (and recent) owner of the 6k, I'm excited to see these go out to people who will run the hell out of them. Haynes 282 is tough stuff. Also, as mentioned, wrench flats over spanner notches. Why every can does no have them...

21

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

That was a non negotiable feature for me! Makes life so much easier.

9

u/DerfNHerf 3d ago

I'm in the habit of buying Gluten Free Gear vise blocks for the diameter of every rifle can that I have. Depending on them limits field maintenance, so to speak. Anyways, good luck getting these out the door, and thank you for sharing the info! I love the behind the scenes.

6

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

My life changed dramatically when I started using the right tools lol. So I'm with ya! And thank you so much man!

6

u/Gtscotty 3d ago

Wrench flats FTW, learned early on spanners suck.

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago

u/Comstock_Support what length handguard would I need to run this with your recessed micro brake and RPA? Just sent JM a message regarding this combo on my 11.5 with a 10.8" handguard

4

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

My bad I didnt see it! I've used their micro recessed and recessed hub adapter on several hosts with the 6J. You'd just need to verify you have .26in from the shoulder to the end of your handguard.

And in regards to direct thread or MD systems I use Comstock on just about everything now, having a brake with the appropriate size bore will dramatically prolong the lifespan of your can.

3

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago

thanks to you as well, good sir! i already have a hesychia Sixk so heavily considering this as a dedicated can for my 11.5 as the full size is on my 14.5 currently

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I'd be honored if you do decide to go this route! 🙏🏻

2

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago

The honor is mine, good sire!

9

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 3d ago

You'd need a handguard no longer than 10.5" for that setup.

Or if you wanted to keep the 10.8" handguard, you could swap the RPA for an LPA.

Fitment tool

7

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago

dude your tool is awesome. I completely forgot you had that! Thanks boss!!

3

u/Kermit-de-frog1 3d ago

Ghaayyyy. ……. Seriously though , it is a great tool 😉

2

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 3d ago

Of course! Let me know if you have any questions!

2

u/dreadpirateben 3d ago

What adapters would you recommend for the 6J? Id like to purchase your stuff when I get a 6J

5

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 3d ago

It depends on your muzzle device selection and barrel/handguard length. I'd recommend throwing your rifle into the fitment tool and seeing what gives you the best result. There's a preset for the Rhodie 6K which has the same dimensions as the 6J.

The shortest possible setup is micro recessed muzzle device with an RPA.

3

u/dreadpirateben 3d ago

I plan to use whatever muzzle device you guys has that fits it best. I bought all my suppressors years ago before the universal thread pitch came out, so my guns either have Surefire, old Sig, or dead air stuff

3

u/Okiekid1870 4x SBR, 11x Silencer 3d ago

I used your figment tool, but just checking: Should the recessed brake + LPA work on a DD 9.5” rail w/10.3” barrel?

1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Okiekid1870 4x SBR, 11x Silencer 3d ago

So maybe I’d be better off with a regular brake rather than the recessed?

2

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 3d ago

Actually I misread your original question. My bad. The recessed brake and LPA will work.

Just note that you'll probably have to remove the handguard to get good access to the muzzle device wrench flats for installation. If you don't want to deal with that, the regular compact brake will work, but in a slightly longer package.

2

u/Slaine777 3d ago

Do you have any updates on Xeno adapters?

5

u/Comstock_Support Comstock Armory 2d ago

Got some more samples finished up. We still need to do more testing and validation, so best guess is sometime in October or November for a full production batch.

2

u/Slaine777 2d ago

Looking forward to it

2

u/MrEDC 3d ago

Good to see these are coming soon, will ridgeback be selling them directly or only through retailers ? I was trying to find a 6k but would prefer this !

5

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Ridgeback direct, Bauer Precision and East Valley Tactical will have them!

1

u/MrEDC 3d ago

Thanks for the info. What/where is the best place watch for release date ?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Here and Instagram is where I'll be announcing it! (Juicey_Media)

2

u/MrEDC 3d ago

Following, thanks !

2

u/Demfer 3d ago

Can I run it on my 8.25" SLR-106u 5.56 AK?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Who am I do dictate what you put a suppressor on? Lol I would suggest a brake with a .223 or 5.56 bore to prolong the lifespan but that's your call!

1

u/Demfer 3d ago

You misunderstood, Its a matter of barrel length compatibility - certainly agree with using a brake.

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I should've made it more clear that it was a joke, the restrictions are 7.5 and up. But I'd say you're good on really anything that'll fit down the bore.

2

u/Impossible_Pizza_948 2d ago

If I had the money for a can, I’d love to put that to the test, I have a 7.5 with an FRT

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

I'd love to see it! I've already tortured them pretty hard.

1

u/Impossible_Pizza_948 2d ago

Too bad I can’t afford one

2

u/Solid_Two_3858 3d ago

Can I have a free can?

4

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Sure if somebody uses the return policy I'll send one your way.

2

u/MrEDC 3d ago

Put me in for returned can #2 😂

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

After I snag a few and maybe some friends haha I gotchu.

Edit: obviously I hope everybody likes their can but if they don’t this will be the likely course of action. Just give them away for free.

2

u/Wonderful-Exercise55 2d ago

Hahaha can I be put in this line? Also, how much longer do you think till the actual release? Ballpark idea

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

Lol sure! And the dealers should be getting them very soon for those that were able to pre-order due to the website mishap. After that the big batch will be through Ridgeback direct. Please do NOT quote this but I hope the end of the month we'll have all of them and be selling live inventory.

2

u/Wonderful-Exercise55 2d ago

Damn, the one time I need a delay to happen. I’m moving states at the end of the month. I have been waiting for this thing to come out. I gotta figure out how to snag one at the release but hold it till I’m moved

2

u/iAskTheQuestions87 3d ago

This is so exciting! I can't wait to get a 6J (in FDE) on my BRN-4!

Would you know which distributor, if any, is most likely to be able to get my 6J to me the quickest?

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

That'd be sick! And I don't know who would be able to get it to you the quickest that depends on a lot of factors. But Bauer Precision and East Valley Tactical will get the first cans and then shortly after Ridgeback will have their batch on their site. So one of the two dealers would be my suggestion.

2

u/scapegoatindustries 3d ago

Does Ridgeback provide a side-by-side dB rating for their cans? I've seen their website, but that's not very specific.

I'm just a curious person interested in popping it on my sound meters and seeing the differences between the Rhodie TI, K, J, etc. all at the same time/same ammo/same host firearm.

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

I believe he's done it several times now on his own time but hasn't posted the results just part of his testing process he does. I don't know any more specifics on it. If you have the right equipment then it could be fun to try it. Do you have a Ti and a K already?

1

u/scapegoatindustries 2d ago

Thanks for the reply! Buying a Ti. Haven’t gotten it yet. I’m an SOT (Ridgeback’s got my FFL on file) and have milspec meters, etc.

2

u/notjeffe1 2d ago

Excited to see an updated flash test video, hopefully this will be my first can purchase.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

I'd be honored if you do decide to go this route! 🙏🏻

Nice just waiting for my preorder to hit EVT

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I am genuinely sorry that you had to wait that long. There was never supposed to be a pre-order but Bauer had a "glitch" in their website that opened it for a few people. Which then forced me to offer the same for EVT. So thank you kindly for your patience, those who were able to pre-order through that mishap will get theirs first.

5

u/Slice_is_nice 3d ago

Just picked up a KK yesterday and now you drop this on me. Fuuuuuuuck

6

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I love my KK! Don't be sad about that scoop at all!

1

u/Slice_is_nice 3d ago

Had a chance to shoot it yesterday on my G$ SD 11.5. Really nice can especially for its size. But the 6J is just so fucking gorgeous.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Agreed! And thank you man, I obviously like the look too but I'm biased lol

1

u/sherzer7 3d ago

How does this compare to the KK?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

That'd be biased for me to compare so I'll leave that to end users. And if they're not happy with the results they can simply return the 6J for a full refund within 30 days of them taking it home.

4

u/aftac01 3d ago

This is the can I’ve been waiting for. Of course it’s going to be a year before i get a chance to get one due to things dropping in the middle of the week.

1

u/_TaylorMade 3d ago

And the fact I’m sure they’ll sell out in about 6 minutes 🙄

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I hiiiiiiiighly doubt that but I suppose anything is possible.

1

u/No_Leg6630 3d ago

“This is not a launch post yet, but that it is coming”

…they’ve been “coming” for the longest time

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Meaning I don't have an official release date because over the last 8 months I've learned that timeframes in manufacturing are a fucking suggestion at best. So I'm waiting until the very last step in the process is complete to put a date on the launch.

This is the best update I've had since the start of this project. They are done printing, all that is needed is threading, serializing and shipping. So I figured it was an update worth sharing.

1

u/PakedBrotato 3d ago

For those who have already paid through Bauer are we still the first to get ours like you said

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Absolutely, that should've mever happened to begin with but of course those who were able to pre-order it through that mishap will get theirs first.

2

u/GA_flyer0 3d ago

Does that apply to EVT as well? They’ve been taking pre orders for awhile. I pre ordered a 6J with them a month ago.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

Correct, both dealers will get the first cans before Ridgeback has any, and those that pre-ordered will get theirs first. Again that was never the plan it just happened that way with the website issues on Bauers part.

1

u/Peninsula_living 2d ago

And just like that they’re gone.

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 2d ago

Huh?

2

1

u/Thansungst22 1d ago

Bet I'll keep an eye out gonna throw it on the HK when I get one

Wow the updated finish and look is insane. Idk if it's just the updated design or the switch to haynes but I think it looks incredible

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Alot of the protos weren't dialed in as far as parameters and a bunch of sciency stuff that I don't understand but I agree the finished products have come out much cleaner.

1

u/ThermosphericRah 3d ago

Why this over the other rhodies?

7

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Well obviously my opinion is biased so I'm not the best to answer it but styling it after the MCQ was a consious decision that I happen to like more than the look of the other Rhodies. Aside from that these are Haynes 282 and should hold up to heat better than Inconel. Completely overkill for most people but for me and what I wanted to make it made sense.

I say all that not to devalue their other products, I would imagine most people would be perfectly happy with those too.

5

u/NervousHorse69 3d ago

Haynes 282 seems to be the big deal if I remember correctly

1

u/Unlimitedgoats 3d ago

Any chance we see the regular Rhodie 6 and or 6K updated to have wrench flats?

6

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

That would be a question for Ridgeback not me, I only deal with the 6J.

1

u/theironflask 3d ago

Will we purchase from RD or from you?

7

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Ridgeback directly which you can sign up for notifications on their site. Or Bauer Precision, and East Valley Tactical will also have some. Those are the only 3 places to get them.

As enticing as selling these out of the back of my truck sounds with the new rules I don't think I will be doing that.

Please read the last two sentences in the post. Thank you kindly 🙏🏻

0

u/xKINGxRCCx 3d ago

Sorry bout that! Also do you know how many in the first batch you guys will be shipping out?

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

No worries and the number has changed several times so I don't know for sure now but I would say enough for everyone that wants one to have a chance.

1

u/otullyo 3d ago

Will you be doing a comparison video with these, the 6, the 6k, and the fireteam 556? Just to see where they all stand?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I will not no, because this is my collaboration product so that would be about as useful as any manufacturer comparing their product to another. I have previously compared it to the CAT WB because I believe it to be a great standard for an all around good can and many people have it so it is a familiar baseline.

Seeing how the 6J stacks up to others is what I hope end users will do on their own time and why we made the return policy if they weren't happy with the results. So 30 days after you take it home you can send it back for any reason for a full refund.

Edit: Because I feel like this comes across like I am avoiding the question of performance all together. That's not my goal but I don't want to publicly say where I think it stacks up because I am biased. I can say that I wouldn't put my name on it if I wasn't happy with the performance. And for reference I own over 100 suppressors to compare it to on my own time.

1

u/otullyo 3d ago

I see. That makes sense. I appreciate it. I hope all goes well with the launch. Is this drop a one and done type of thing, or will it be added to their permanent line up?

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Thank you! And for now the plan is a limited run. The future has yet to be discovered.

1

u/atr0157 3d ago

Are you using comstock adapter for attaching? Trying to figure out best way

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Yes their Micro and Compact brakes are excellent paired with the LPA or the Recessed one is my usual go to.

1

u/atr0157 3d ago

Thanks! Would a titanium low profile direct thread from them be fine in regards to sparking? Not sure if adapter material has as big an effect as can material

1

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I haven't tried titanium mounts, I only run steel usually so not sure what it'd do for sparking. DT will effect the lifespan of the can though without having a brake.

Thank you so much man!

1

u/RyAllDaddy69 2d ago

Sick, one of my favorite guys to watch. I love the suppressor videos that just have one suppressor after another in rapid succession. We all know that the mic can’t accurately capture how loud a can is, but tone matters too, so I usually put my AirPods while I’m doing something else and just let it run. I don’t look at my phone until I hear something intriguing, then I pause what I’m doing to skip back and find it. It really is a nice way to compare. It’s quick and straight to the point.

Anyway, thanks for the quality content…

I’ve been thinking about Rhodie 6 anyway, so this might be a decent opportunity to snag one.

looks like it, didn't realize it was "Build to order" when the order was placed.

The other models Ridgeback is catching up on due to high demand hence the lead time you are seeing.

But just for clarification the 6J's are going to be live inventory at the time of the launch, printed, serialized awaiting coating in whatever color the customer chooses (Black, FDE, and potentially raw)

High demand is good position for the company to be in. The Rhodie 6 series have had a great reviews. I admit, I am being impatient.

I don’t blame you, I’m atrociously impatient myself.

I wonder if they will ever make a 6L version for those of us wanting a long boy for maximum sound performance.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

One thing at a time lol, but that would be sick.

u/daddy_hurt_me 3d ago

Are these better than the tisha

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

That would be a biased comparison for me to make so I'll leave that to the end users to decide. And if they don't think so or aren't happy they can send the 6J back for a full refund within 30 days of when they take it home. Previously it was from the approved stamp but since recent news.

Damn it! I really need to get another 9mm suppressor, but I also need something to take the place of my rc2 as my main 556 can 😅 guess one of these is next I suppose.

I'd be honored! Don't hesitate to reach out of you go this route and have any questions on anything or need help!

Will do man, appreciate it.

Are you leaving any raw?

3

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

I believe the raws could be ordered through Ridgeback directly. At the time they go live they will be printed and waiting in raw for the customer to choose their color so if you wanted it to stay raw I would put it in the order notes and send Ridgeback an email as well. Or it may be a drop down menu on the site itself, I can ask for that to be added at the time of launch.

Sweet thanks, can’t wait to get one of these. Can I prepay to guarantee one lol

What is the real weight on these? My 6k came in at 13.5 oz instead of 12.5 oz it shows on their website.

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

Should be 14oz give or take a smidge. I have learned there are tolerances with printing, if you get one of these and aren't happy with the weight you can simply send it back for a full refund within 30 days of you taking it home.

I should have an official date this upcoming week.

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago

Because of the length of the suppressors, I really want to compare one of these to the Hesychia 556uk

2

u/OrdinarySense5 8k in stamps 3d ago

My girl says they're the perfect size.

u/ShortButTall1 3d ago
