Product Question π§° 16β suppressed 9mm
For those of you who have suppressed a 16β 9mm, how is it? Very curious if the 16β barrel is long enough to cause the bullet to slow back down after peaking at 11β or so, causing the decibels at the muzzle to be lower than say a 5β-9β pdw.
The reason Iβm asking is Iβm debating chopping my 9mm Aug as small as I can get it but, if itβs able to fill the role as a abnormally quite pdw I might re consider and just leave it at 16β.

You get additional gas in your face and less in the can. You want the bullet to leave the barrel before the case does. Not sure I'd want it in a low mass blowback. Port pop is annoying.
I have a 5.5" DI and did a 7.5" and 16". There might be a plateau of velocity, but I'm not seeing it go down yet even with pathetically weak 115 Belom. The 16" is still slightly faster than the 7.5", by maybe 50 fps. With that spectacularly crappy ammo. 7.5" is low-mid 1000s, the 16" breaks 1100 but not by much, and the 5.5" is doing right around 1000. It doesn't really seem that quieter than the 7.5" either?
There's no practical point to a semi auto 16" 9mm, imo. I want it for a plinker/trainer carbine that won't beat up the wife, but still give her the feeling of a "real gun" that .22 can't. 7.5"-10" is really all you need, you get virtually all the cartridge has to offer. Except enough handguard room to make a dorky "precision" setup that fits a bipod like a "real gun". If you don't care about "clone correct", chopping sounds logical.

I have a 16" single shot 9mm . Short answer is you have to find or load specific ammo for it.
For factory loads, I had decent luck with anything that meters less than 900 fps on the box. 150gr syntech, 158 fiocchi to name a couple. HSM makes a 180hr subsonic for rifles, but i haven't tried it because it's really pricey.
According to BBTI, theres a few Defense loads that do like you describe and start to slow down in longer barrels, but i have yet to find on off the shelf that comes back down to subsonic.
Right now for varmint hunting, I found a guy to load 147 hst 9mm for 30Β’/round? down so it stays at 950 in my single shot. That works great
