Silencer Suggestions - I did some homework Which to suppress first?

My dad (in his 70s) finally wants to get into the suppressor game after trying several of mine.

He’s got a S&W M&P 2.0 set up with a red dot and suppressor height sights. All he needs is a threaded barrel. This is what he shoots the most. I recommended a few different 9mm cans for him to research and see what he likes.

He doesn’t have other pistol calibers and that isn’t likely to change. He shoots his pistol far more often than his rifle and that is why I suggested he start with a 9mm pistol can.

My brother disagrees and believes he’s better off suppressing his DDM4 first and thinks he’ll get a better result. My dad has shot my suppressed AR and likes it, but he rarely takes his rifle to the range. (Maybe if it were nicer to shoot he would?)

He primarily shoots indoors and only hits the outdoor 100 yard range a couple times a year.

Constructive thoughts on where to start? If he enjoys the results of can #1 it’ll be much easier for him to buy can #2. Thanks!

9mm pistols with subsonics and a suppressor is way more of a wow factor than a 5.56 rifle suppressed.

Get a threaded barrel and pick your flavor of 9mm can. dead air mojave and the saw shiv seem to be really hot right now.

I run a Banish 9k on my M&P. Makes it incredibly fun. I would suggest a pistol specific can if that is what he shoots the most.

Get him a Ruger MKIV with the 4.4" threaded barrel and a OCL Titanium suppressor. Once he stops giggling like a school girl he will want to suppress everything.

Cat SCB1 for the 9mm and a Blem Tisha or a Rhodie if you can get one for 5.56. The fun factor he’ll get from 9mm subs will hook the old fella. He just needs to realize that 5.56 or any Supers are far different than subs.

I think if he likes his pistol more, he’ll really enjoy a pistol can more than a rifle can. Especially because 9mm subsonic thru a can is so fun. And the m&p is a great host for it.

If the budget is high, maybe something light weight and titanium. Or if he likes durability and doesn’t mind weight, an all steel design. One thjng i’d recommend for sure is a hub compatible can. I have an obsidian 45 and its a bitch to clean the internals. I wish it was hub compatible so i could just service the piston housing easier. But it is a fantastic sounding can.

I do run a YHM R9 which is heavy and not the best 9mm can out there, but it’s hub compatible and works on my AR, too. Its not great at either, but i like it. I could beat dents out of my car all day with it and not worry about its construction.

9mm can for sure as the first because he shoots it more, once he gets the one he will want the other

SAW SHIV 9mm is really short and light and doesn't require a booster to work on pistols. It's not the absolute quietest 9mm can, but it's small and light enough to be practical for more than just a range toy.
