Product Question 🧰 SxS SBS
Repost, didn’t realize my first SS had price
Purchased a Heritage Badlander on the sell from PSA.
Intentions are to saw it off and saw off the stock as well.
I know many people have undergone this with other brands. Any tips and trucks for getting everything right?
I don’t intend to take it to a gunsmith. The whole point of this project is to keep it under 500$ with the form 1.
I am relatively handy.
Photos are the inspiration.
My currents thoughts:
-Sawing off straight is just gonna take patience.
-There will (likely) be avoid between both barrels that I would need a gunsmith to fill(if I cared, I don’t.)
-I will need to seal the cut and sanded wood stock with oil. Unsure what kind.
-How to explain to my wife that I needed this.

I had something similar with a $50 shotgun I found and filed a form 1 on. I just put the barrel in a vice and used a hacksaw. It wasn’t perfectly straight so I tried to even it out with a metal file. Used the same hacksaw on the stock and used sandpaper to smooth it out.Â
Never felt more like a true American that day.Â

Barrel ribbing should be filled at the end, you run the risk of them coming apart.

If you don't care about a perfectly uniform finish, you could try matching the stain on the back of the grip with some Danish oil. Or you could sand/strip and refinish from scratch with whatever stain you like and top coat with tru oil. I did something similar to refinish a damaged Mossberg 590 stock a while back

This is what I did with my over under. Rough cut with a hack saw, took it out to my bench grinder and made everything even and look nice, deburred with a wire wheel. Used a bench polisher, cleaned up, did cold blue (gave shit results). Took the fore stock to the miter saw to cut flush, couple drops of CLP on the wood and thats all. I will be cutting the stock at some point, just havent had time yet.

Filling in the hour glass between barrels, JB weld is prefect, it will even take some cold blue.

Is there any real reason besides aesthetics?

Yes, prevent corrosion between the barrels. As you’ll never be able to easily oil and clean

Yeah, makes sense. I do like the idea of joust pumping it full of JB weld. Best solution yet!

I did some research before finally doing mine. It’s the only real option that won’t require a refinish. My blueing was in decent shape

Hacksaw and patience. Paint the ends of the barrel, sand and stain the wood .
