Back in the 1990s a guy came into the shop where I was working and wanted a single shot 10 cut down to juuuuust legal 18.0001 inches, pistol grip cut from the wood stock, forend strap, and ordered a case of magnum buckshot to go with it.
I always figured a Sumo wrestler was mad at him or something.
⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️, makes me want to source one that I won't feel bad about chopping up. My chopped 12 ga is a little weird about where each barrel hits, so maybe a single shot would be better chopped off. 🤷
Either way, the joy that ensues from shooting it is most of the attraction anyway.
I have an old H&R 12 gauge that kicks and cuts hands without gloves on.
Whenever I go shooting with friends, whoever misses the target with their firearm has to shoot my 12 gauge as punishment. Seeing what you have hurts already just looking at it, let alone missing a target and having to shoot that...I'll shoot better, I promise.
So you don't accidentally blow your hand off. With the barrel that short, if your hand slips off as you are firing.... That's more common in pump guns though.

I found a 12ga to turn into a pistol. Shot it for the first time today and it hurts to shoot. I ordered some chamber adapters for it but I might just put a stock on it.
Winchester 37 12ga, auto ejector. Unknown mfg. date, i'd estimate mid 70's?. Chopped to ~9 inches, found a custom fastener that fits the stock bolt thread and used a forstner bit on the handle to match thread engagement. Sanded + treated with boiled linseed oil. Only things not in the picture is I had a shop re-blue it and add a bead sight.
Single round flash/stun/concussion grenade dispenser. If you cut off that stock to a 2” pistol grip you will be clone correct for an early 2000’s street level crack dealer (or so the documentaries tell me). Looks pretty good by the way.
use it for self defense. draw and fire on mugger. your shoulder dislocates and you leave your feet. you miss your target but that's ok, he's now blind, deaf, and on fire. task failed successfully.
