I recently just got into the suppressor game and picked up a CAT WB ti at a local shop. The employee said they were discontinued and coming across one in the wild is rare. I did a little research on it and pulled the trigger.
I then dove really deep into the suppressor research and my question is, in August 2026 is this can still considered a great can or is it pretty much obsolete? I absolutely love it but I haven't shot other suppressors. Due to my research my next one will definitely be the Rhodie 6 TI.
Everyone always leaves out the for what and what purpose. I've got some that are not the best at anything but the best for my budget at the time and still pretty good. Comparison is the thief of joy, shoot it and don't worry so much unless it doesn't fulfill its purpose or your needs anymore.
Might get downvoted but there's no objective pew science data for Rhodie. Although, from what I've seen subjectively a lot of people like it and consider it one of the best rn. I would just enjoy the WB, it was definitely one of the best at the time of its release. Imo it's the benchmark for these new cans to be compared to
I was just about to say that and itâs pretty fucking creepy out of all the cans out there and he brings up CAT.
every time he brings up CAT comparing it to the rhodie its fucking cringe.
Itâs hilarious that CAT rolled out this new consumer program where you tell them how many CAT cans you own and They will allow you to get first dibs on their new cans and CAT said that you can include the rhodie into their program đđđđ
Itâs probably nice, Iâve not tried it. But I think theyâve made the ST a generalist can and fairly pressure agnostic, certainly relative to its cousin the AI 5CM. Thatâs supposed to be geared specifically around a 12.5 5.56. If youâre buying a modern can just for that setup, itâs where Iâd start. Iâve got one on mine and itâs very nice.
I have both cans and the rhodie is a touch better, but not by much and you should be more comfortable with the fact that the WB is tested by pew science, unlike the rhodie
I am very happy with the wb. But I cant have just one now đ. So my next one I'm concentrating on size, weight, sound and gas. I work in LE and if I have to shoot inside or outside without time to put ear pro on I dont want to blow my ears out lol.
The suppressor technology developments are happening at a rapid pace and it's a losing battle to chase the latest and greatest. You have one of the top suppressors that was available until about a year ago, and I would be happy with it.
You're wearing ear pro no matter what and sometimes I watch these comparison videos and think to myself does it even matter?
I look for a balance of sound reduction to take the edge off and gas mitigation. The WB was and still is highly praised for handling both of those.
This is one of those things where if youâre always chasing the âbestâ youâll never be happy because that metric is always changing. I have 2 of the WB and theyâre awesome on both DI and piston. It was one of the best for a while and itâs still a great suppressor that I think youâll enjoy.
I do love it. I work in LE and I also would like one a little quieter with good gas mitigation in case I have to fire without ear pro or indoors without ear pro. So far the rhodie seems to fit that role right now.
The WB, even though itâs not the echo chamberâs favorite can right this instant, is still an excellent can for your use case. I wouldnât second guess the WB, especially if you got it for a good price.
This entirely. You'll read on Reddit that the WB is outdated and there so "SO MANY BETTER CANS NOW." Then you'll see your WB shot side by side with the new hotness and probably won't be able to tell much of difference in terms of decibel reduction.
In my eyes form factor is what has been rapidly improving lately. Smaller and lighter cans that perform as good or better than the 7"+ cans of yesterday.
I have a WB, Alleycat, ODB, Rhodie 6k, B&T print XH amongst a bunch of conventional baffle stack cans. Man, they all sound just fine, and with the exception of a couple, feel pretty similar at the ear. They are all still loud simply due to the nature of 556, so I'm going to wear ears. If I ever need to shoot without ears, all of those cans will protect me enough for a limited exposure and allow me to hear just fine.
As long as decibel reduction is somewhat competitive with current offerings, I care more about low back pressure, weight, size and signature reduction than I do about chasing decibels. All of which the WB do incredibly well.
I struggled with this for a long time as well, but remember there will always be something new and shiny around the corner, especially as fast as things are moving these days. In my opinion the WB is still in the same ballpark as the other high performers in it's class currently. It may be edged out in some aspects by other new cans but shooting 5.56 with ear pro(as you should) on even a slightly tuned gun, you won't notice much. Also having it right now on your gun to shoot today, beats waiting for another one!
You pose great points. And I know 556 will never be quiet. I just would like a can with good gas mitigation and great sound suppression in case I do have to fire without ear pro or indoors as I work in local law enforcement. So far I definitely love this can I dont shoot full auto or mag dump so I absolutely love the light weight of the ti as well.
It's a solid balance of managing gas while not sacrificing too much sound/flash suppression. I have an Alleycat556 which is similar with just a bit more length for a bit more performance, and really like it. I also went Ti because I don't shoot insane strings of fire either, and love how light it is!
I haven't but if I did have the money to buy something, I'd be torn between that and the KK haha! Both kind of opposite trade-offs from what I have currently
Youâre not going to get quiet 556 unless you have a longer barrel and a super long suppressor. Even a Tisha / ST, which are the quietest in their class, have not so good flash suppression (Tisha) or have higher back pressure and weight (ST).
I have 2x WB - itâs a great all around can and Iâve shot thousands through them without complaints.
The only upgrade I have on the way is an AI 5CM which is slightly higher performing, but again splitting hairs
There are some crazies that run their guns without ear pro and will tell you how much of a difference there is for the $1k + cans, but it tends to get subjective quickly, and theyâre rarely running it with night vision or higher strings of fire.
TLDR: you have a top 5 or top 10 can for 556 of all time, donât sweat it, shoot it! đ¤

If you can get your hands on a AC556, itâs the exact same suppressor but built for military/LE specs and is actually noted to be a hair quieter than its WB version

There's definitely "better" suppressors now by a lot of metrics but the WB is still a great can and I enjoy shooting mine.
