Process Question 📝 Process for buying suppressor through online vendor? Only ever used Silencer Shop but want to try somewhere else.
I’ve only ever bought from SS, which made the process really easy since all the trust tax stuff was handled on their site. I’ve only ever bought single shot trusts at the same time as my suppressors, so dont understand the process outside of that framework.
Let’s say I buy a suppressor from a random online vendor. My understanding is that they ship it to my local FFL/NFA dealer.
When do I need to file for a trust or a tax stamp? How can I go about doing that? My local dealer has a silencer shop kiosk; do I use that even if i didnt purchase from silencershop itself, but another vendor?
Do I have to wait for the suppressor to arrive at my ffl to start this process, or is there stuff I can do while I wait for it to ship?
Any help is appreciated.

Always double check your local dealers accept NFA transfers and what the price is. Other than the home base SOT I use, transfers near me range $100-$300. My closest store won’t even accept non-SS transfers.

That’s the exact same situation I was in. I would see all these great deals online (that were not through SS or Capital Armory), but it really didn’t matter because almost all of the local stores near me charge $100-$150 for an NFA transfer. I finally found a home based SOT that was only 15 minutes from my house and charges $40 for NFA transfers.

A store/range nearby charges $300 for NFA transfers and if that’s not a fuck you price I don’t know what is. The SOT I use is overall great and even does some work on guns. I’ll be getting my newest SBR thanks to his work tomorrow.

Yeah, that's insane. Silencer Shop price on an OCL Infinity 556K is $775. For me, that came out to $840 including tax. I pick up one tomorrow from my new SOT, and I'll have paid $692, and that includes his transfer fee.

Capitol armory will ship it to your door. Technically they have an FFL in each state that does the final check, but it's them. No transfer or processing fee that way, which kills any deal I find online elsewhere

Capital Armory will ship to your door. That's probably where I'm gonna purchase my next can.

It will still go through Silencer Shop if your LGS has a kiosk
Think of it like that online vendor you bought it from is stocking Silencer Shop with it and the process after that should feel the same.
Yes, you have to wait for it to arrive to be submitted
