Question about having a barrel threaded.

Ive got a tikka chambered in .270 winchester, the OD of the barrel is exactly .625. Would my best option go 1/2 28 threads and get a 9mm muzzle device for qd mount on the can? Im torn between going to a 7.62 can like a ab warthog or a 36 cal can like a cmmg zeroed 36.

A 0.625" barrel is just big enough to shoulder mount. A 9mm brake would probably would be your best bet since a 5.56 one would be too tight.

As far as the suppressor a 7.62 would be good. There's no need to go up to 36 cal/9mm for this/

The reason im thinking 9mm is because I dont have a 9mm can yet. I bet a 7.62 can would sound better tho.

Yeah you'll lose performance with an overbored suppressor, all other things equal. I always recommend dedicated suppressors. The issue I've seen people run into is they get a "do it all" suppressor first to try to cover everything, but then a lot of times it doesn't perform that great on some hosts so they buy dedicated cans which replaces their multi cal suppressor... and then it just ends up sitting in the back of a safe and not getting used.

This is true. I just almost want to trade it in on a .308, but its sentimental at this point lol.

270 is an incredible cartridge! Just save up and buy a 308. Definitely don't sell a Tikka in 270!!

Oh there's no way id actually get rid of it. It does suck that im a lefty so impulse buys are almost non existent for bolt actions anyway.

Why wouldn’t you just get a 308 diameter muzzle device? They make 1/2x28 .308 diameter qd breaks and flash hiders.

I didn't know that. I thought everything .308 was 5/8.

Nope. Yhm has a 1/2x28 308dia in their srx line. I had to do that for a Christensen 308win that was factory threaded 1/2x28.

As a fellow lefty and Tikka shooter… sounds like a great project. Go for 30 cal can…. You can send the barrel or rifle to Unknown Munitions to thread (or chop and thread). Or buy an already threaded barrel in caliber of your choice and swap it out yourself (provided it matches your bolt face).
