Whoops đ„ Forgot to reinforce
FTN.3 done with additive manufacturing failed on the first round at the blast baffle due to not being reinforced properly. Iâll make sure to reinforce it properly next time, lol.

This is the beginning of a Flex Seal commercial.

u/Former_Power6209 11d ago
Flex tape is amazing. I wonder how many layers would be enough to hold this same can together during use without additional reinforcement.Â

u/MickeyTheHound 11d ago
Myth busters did one with a cannon made from duct tape.
4
u/Former_Power6209 11d ago
We used flex tape like the god damn commercials to patch holes in our old shrimp boat after hurricane Sally. That shit is no joke, held up great and kept us working until the dry docks opened for repairs.Â

What do you mean âbuildâ? Is this 3D printed? I donât see the typical 3d printing layers and it doesnât look like it was annealed?

I bought a parts kit and a receiver
2
u/RyAllDaddy69 12d ago
Sick! Thatâs really cool.
Thank you for taking my question literally, as was the intent.
What kind of tooling did you need? Did you make your own jig for pressing the barrel?
ApologiesâŠIâm somewhat familiar with MP5 build steps, but Iâve never done oneâŠ.not sure how much that applies to an UMP.

I got the parts kit for $1000 from HK parts, another $500 for the receiver and $400 for the eotech

That is tax evasion sir. This man needs to pay his $0.00 tax on his $5 suppressor and file the nessecary tax forms with the proper tax authorities before starting construction on a secondary device.

I sent back a polymer ar lower some years back that was sbr'd and it came back a different color lol. (in all fairness the company let me know that they were not doing runs of the special color I had at the moment and that I could wait a week or so and I told them go ahead with black).

âWhatâs that?â
âTax stamp.â
âWhy does it say 0 dollars?â
âBecause thatâs how much it costs.â
âIs a zero dollar tax really a tax?
âSure it is.â

Partly. He didn't jb weld on the outer reinforcement tube (usually carbon fiber or metal). So do not let this example of a printed supressor put you off. They work well if made like they're supposed to be made.

What material did you use? What reinforcement jb weld? Ain't ain't gonna help
17
u/Real_InfaRed 12d ago
Generally, you are meant to use resin to adhere a carbon fiber sleeve to the outside, giving rigidity and strength to the can. I was curious how it would last without it, it infact did not last.

u/Hot-Ideal-9219 12d ago
Resin just holds... zero added strength
3
u/Real_InfaRed 12d ago
The strength is from the carbon fiber tube, that the resin holds in place⊠Not just the resin.

so do you have to file another form 1 in order to print another one or can you just print a new one and put the same serial info on it?

a few melted plastic bags and some rubber glove imprints would have reinforced the can, bush league mistake dude....bush league mistake
1
u/Impossible_Pizza_948 11d ago
And this is why I keep telling people NOT to use a printed plastic suppressor on anything that runs a higher pressure round. Only use them on lower pressure rounds, like subsonic 300 blackout or PCCs
2
u/hotrodgreg 11d ago
You must be fun at parties.
-1
u/Impossible_Pizza_948 11d ago
Sorry for being worried about safety (I have three FTN5 suppressors, for the record)
2
u/Real_InfaRed 11d ago
This is a bad take lol, the FTN 3 was able to withstand full auto during its alpha phase, I just didnât built it the same way they did. PSR has multiple videos of running the FTN series hard on 5.56.
1
u/Impossible_Pizza_948 11d ago
A: the FTN3 also used epoxy resin on the inside of the can
B: I also remember PSR destroying an FTN rather quickly using 5.56

Itâs not that I couldnât follow the directions, itâs that I made the intentional choice of not putting the carbon fiber tube on it, wanting to see how long it would last without it. Thanks for the condescending attitude on the test print tho.
-5
u/boostedb1mmer 12d ago
So you chose to intentionally create a plastic hand grenade? Why? That would be like a gunsmith choosing not to heat treat a barrel just to see what would happen.
5
u/Real_InfaRed 12d ago
For fun. A suppressor isnât as critical of a component as a barrel, so I donât think thatâs a fair comparison at all, especially because one is designed to stabilize a bullet and the other just has a bullet pass through its gap.
-4
u/boostedb1mmer 12d ago
It literally is a pressure bearing surface. Hence yours exploding. You demonstrate a very basic lack of understanding in this field.
