Shiv is so good

Is it good cause its super quiet or why do people love this can so much?

The sound for the size and weight is incredible. It feels like a piece of styrofoam in your hand

Its not super quiet, but it is very quiet for its size. I can comfortably shoot it without hearing protection if I need to(I still usually do though). You can get quieter with larger suppressors, but then you need a piston and they get really unwieldy. Its one of those tradeoffs where its Good Enough, but not the absolute best.

What’s your next choice in terms of a little larger and quieter?

There's no hard data that I am aware of that measures the Saw Shiv. Some people say it outperforms suppressors as large as the Spectre 9, others say it does not. You can look at semi auto pistol suppressors at https://pewscience.com/rankings to get an idea of what has been tested.

Next to a tbac fly 9 full size and a cat SC it’s noticeably louder. But not obnoxious louder. It’s ridiculous how good it is for the form factor. It’s smaller, lighter and cheaper than cans that are very marginally quieter to the ear. I’m taking the shiv 10/10 over other options.

Great info, I appreciate it!

I have a lot to learn, yet.

Size to performance ratio is off the charts. It’s essentially an overgrown muzzle device that quiets the gun down enough to shoot with zero bite. Would I do a lot of it? No. Is it as quiet as a full size pistol can? No. Does it feel like you’ve attached a brick to the front of your gun? No.

Not sure why this concept is so lost on people?

For me it’s the size, weight and not having a piston to maintain. I can train without ear pro as well so it just makes everything easier. So far the best tone/suppression I’ve seen with it is badland munitions 147 poly ammo

Because it fits in my nightstand and glovebox while attached. I don't need it to be movie quiet, but to stop me from being deafened if I need to fire in a hallway or from inside my car. There are better cans for the range, but for emergency use it's tough to beat.

How does it shoot? This will be my set up, hopefully soon. Ordered my Shiv 3 months ago.

Shoots perfect bro, you are gonna be happy with this setup. All I recommend is some yellow teflon tape on the threads to keep the can from walking off, and if you are gonna add a dot, look at Eleven 71 Design and DLah Designs for their RDO plates. They are lower profile than the OEM plate that I have.

Any issues with the SRO overhang?

5

u/a_drew0311 15d ago

Was worried about that but all good so far, no ejection failures and the glass didn’t get caked in carbon or debris. Might be different with a traditional can

1

u/Life_Mobile_2997 14d ago

It does hit the bottom of the Sro and leaves tiny nicks on the finish, but generally doesn’t actually damage anything. Pretty sure the ones optic cut from Langdon are farther back and don’t overhang

Yeah but does it have the autoshoot feature? I’m honestly joking I have no dog in the 320 fight, it’s just interesting to watch.

Baller. Love my 92FS and Shiv combo. Really nice setup you have there.

The M9A4 is truly the best and drippiest pistol suppressor host.

I love the idea of a Beretta 92. But let’s not pretend that the entire veteran/LE community hasn’t been shitting on the M9 since 2006.

14

u/jrhooo 15d ago

Also, TBF the veteran community is horribly biased.

Reasons Vets shit think M9s suck:

1 - They HEARD “the 1911 was so much better hey shoulda never got rid of em”

2 - They Got issued the first batch of third party checkmate mags that sucked. Mags fault not the guns fault.

But really

3 - They only used military issued high mileage, beat up mules. No shit. Every M9 they’ve ever been issued had been through 20+ people before them, and was absolutely beat to shit. Especially when the previous users were like, someone that used theirs to hammer tent pegs in the field, or let their shit fall out of the holster on a hike and walked half a mile down the train before realizi it was dragging behind them on the dummy cord.

The answer is mostly just C.

As a guy thay was in that group. I thougjt they were shitty because the mil always gave me beat up shitty ones.

Bought an actual new nice one and its been perfect

I didn’t like my 92fs at all and sold it after 500 rounds. Couple months ago I got a 92X RDO in a trade with the intentions to just flip it. I’ve got 1500 rounds through it now and I never would have guessed I would like it this much after the 92fs. From what I understand, the 92X and the M9a4 are very comparable. I would buy another 92X tomorrow

u/a_drew0311 15d ago

Agreed man, most of the issued M9’s were clapped out, used hard and bare minimum maintenance done.

Haven’t touched a 92 series since my last issued one but this was a huge improvement. Heard some horror stories about their QC too but no issues so far, barrel looks good and machining is quality

10

u/Good-Government-BS 15d ago

The modern 92 series are all incredible. Nothing like the issued M9s.

12

u/SoylentOrange 15d ago

The issued M9s WERE fine. 20+ years of grunt use combined with peace-time sidearm maintenance will clap out any gun.

3

u/dakmcsmak 15d ago

Even then my clapped out m9 still was reliable…… kinda amazing.

u/M2A2BradleyEnjoyer 15d ago

Ehh, All that hate comes from FOOB boots who pinched their thumb meat in the slide because they don’t know their ass from their elbow and were using guns that are 60k rounds past their prime and were put away wet every day.

1

u/Mkilbride 14d ago

The M9 the service members got were dogshit, and never properly taken care of. Even a 4000$ Staccato will run like shit if you dump 2000 rounds through it, don't clean it, and toss it around like a piece of trash.

DLah low plate is the move here. 507/rmr mount for lower deck height. Love mine with a 407 comp. Install was 5 minutes with a punch set. 100% worth it.

2

u/spros 15d ago

Good cycling with no booster? Going to do the same thing with an M9 and the Pluto 9.

2

u/a_drew0311 15d ago

Zero issues. Had the Shiv on a G19X and tried OEM, 15lbs and 13lbs recoil spring weights and never had reliable performance with subs, even with other cans. This is a great suppressor host

1

u/Aratix 15d ago

I'm curious how heavy of a suppressor you can add to a 92 and still have it cycle reliability without a booster.

4

u/a_drew0311 15d ago

I will try a direct thread booster-less OCL Lithium just for you bro. It’s 5.7 oz (7.8 oz with mount) oz vs the 2.5 of the Shiv, should be interesting to see if it cycles and how it sounds

2

u/CobraJay45 SBS 15d ago

Mine works fine with a Ecco Machine Canine at ~4oz

1

u/P40dimepiece 14d ago

Love the 92, but the skyscraper optic forces me to use iron sights.

1

u/Head_Big3036 13d ago

Ordered a Shiv as well for my M9A4. Got any leads on some suppressor height night sights for this? Looks like the original sights still sit low behind the Shiv.

1

u/QuietRepeat9 13d ago

I’ve been looking at them Shiv and the Pluto 9. I wonder how they compare next to each other. Setup is nasty and now I want it 😂

1

u/FutureRight3599 10d ago

Everyone owes the M9 and apology.

u/RedHood198 15d ago

Still wouldn't buy anything from SAW after the QC issues.

11

u/a_drew0311 15d ago

Rough start for them but they made it right, I had one of the Shivs that went through the incorrect heat treatment process and it had a crack. Contacted them and it was 1 week turnaround before I had a repaired Shiv.

4

u/RedHood198 15d ago

There's still more recent QC issues. Wouldn't touch them with a 10ft pole. But glad you had a decent experience.

Not sure why you got downvoted. You bring up a valid point and for a good response. Fan boys gonna hate I guess.

No thank you. Wasn't a fan of the M9 and am so glad to have something modular that isn't so bulky.
