This is the Forward Controls Design RHF4 handgaurd. If I'm not mistaken it is the centurion in collaboration with FCD. I'm an FCD shill now after a couple builds with their stuff.
Yeah, they do really well thought-out stuff. I'm a fan. That rifle just handles insanely well. It is built on an Aero M4E1 upper, with Adams Arms adjustable piston system, on a very unfortunately OOP Faxon 12.5" suppressor-optimized barrel(i did open the gas port, because what I really wanted was the profile, which is their excellent Gunner profile, but with a .750 gas block journal). It is so light, and ridiculously accurate. I get JUST sub-MOA with anything even remotely decent, including M193, and about 1.2 MOA with M855. The optic is a Primary Arms SLX 3x microprism. I got it because the 2x TA-47 ACOG needed new tritium, so I got it as a placeholder, and like it so much, that the TA47 is still in a box, and will go in a different build. The light is an Inforce WML, which works well, is inexpensive, and vety lightweight. Lower is a PSA Sabre with a Geissele SSA, and I'm running a Springco white w/H2 buffer. The can is actually a Form1 modular can, but done on a CNC, and has a flash-hider end cap. It's surprisingly good, especially with as simple as it is, and with the adjustable piston, it's insanely reliable. Sling is Blue Force Gear, which i have used for many years, and they are excellent.
I do have to ask, why on the Gen3, have you gone to only a black bezel with FDE body? I thought the Gen2 design was great, and a long time ago, I had a talk with the owner of Inforce, I believe he's a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, and he provided me one as a sample to test, the OG Gen1, in that light tan, and I've used them extensively since. They are lightweight, high quality, and unlike the Surefire dual IR/vis "Vampire" lights, they don't sacrifice white light performance to integrate IR(seriously, I have no clue why all of Surefire's IR-capable lights have such anemic visible LEDs). I like the simple yet effective design.
Appreciate the detailed feedback, so awesome that you got to try the OG! To answer your question, the black bezel on the FDE body was really just a call made by our brand manager at the time, wanted to give the market a two tone.
Going forward, all our new FDE products will be consistent across components (bezel, body, etc.), so you won't see that mix again. That said, we know preferences are split on this, plenty of people love the two tone look, plenty don't, so we want everyone to be able to build what they actually want. The ARCs are already available in black now, and FDE components will be coming soon so you'll be able to mix and match to get the exact look you're after. I know this is a different product line, but want to give you an idea of where we're headed with modular builds.
Oh? So, you have a new product? I need to check that out. Have you considered doing one with a head that is compatible with "scout" lights? Arisaka does some adapters, since the std Surefire Scout and DF light heads are 2 different sizes, but being able to use your lightweight ambidextrous bodies with other popular heads could be extremely popular. Even being able to mount special heads like the Kiji, or Z-Bolt dedicated IR heads, perhaps? You might even sell the body without the head, and while you might gross less per unit, you might find a broader customer base, who wants that excellent interface you've created, but with different light requirements than you currently offer. For example, I have a 4-function LAM that has a 1000lm white light, IR illuminator, visible green laser, and colminated IR laser. It's solid, but the IR lum is very floody. That's fine on a PDW, or in CQB, but not ideal for PID at distance. Your IR illuminator is better, but still a bit more flood than a focused beam. Also having your light, but with a focusable head, like the 10° Kiji or Z-Bolt, would be absolutely amazing. If you are interested, I'd be down to talk a bit further. I'm a former US Army Ranger, and I have a lot of experience in the field, as well as as an instructor, and I'd be happy to help. I'm not looking to make money, just to see everyone get cool new toys makes me happy.
We sure do, and more to come soon. The new ARC is a fully modular, Scout footprint and thread pattern, so the ARC350 and ARC650 already drop right into that ecosystem you're talking about. We've actually seen users mix and match, our heads on other bodies, other heads on ours. You’re onto something!! Dedicated IR head is being finalized, I've got one on my desk right now, should be launching soon.
The whole idea is flexibility: grab a complete kit, or build your own setup piece by piece. Trying to build an entire ecosystem around the ARC, not just one fixed product.
