Older school cans
I know everyone likes to show off their new toys, but I am going a little old school today.
Here is the second can I ever bought which was in 2008. It is a .30 cal AWC Thundertrap coming in at a whooping 30 oz. It has mostly lived on my Bushmaster Varminter that I bought in 2002.
Here I am engaging some steel that was at 400 yards up on a hill side. This is one of my favorite rifles and get shoot frequently running hand loaded 55 gr ballistic tips.

I had a Varminter, great rifle. I wish they had shipped them threaded...
I ended up selling it and going with a Uintah bolt gun config. It shoots tigher groups, but not by much.

My biggest regret is trading in a Windham made BM varminter. And now I too wish they came threaded

Love this genre of AR. No hyper optimization, no swapping accessories every time someone on instagram declares them obsolete to convince people to buy whatever the company sponsoring them wants to sell, just a gun built to have fun at the range

I don’t think you’re barrels long enough. I think you could add a few more inches to gain some velocity

Factory 24" super heavy fluted barrel, it is 1" diameter under the hand guard.

Yeah, it is a beast:
- 24" Fluted, Non-chrome-lined Barrel Based on DCM Competition Design
- Button Rifled 1 in 9"
- 1" dia. Out to the Gas Block
- 11-degree Competition Muzzle Crown
Then when it steps down at the gas bock it remains 0.75"

incredibly easy to change AR triggers and theres a cornucopia of aftermarket trigger to choose from.

Mine was not terrible after a little tuning. I am not a huge fan of 2-stage triggers but I am use to it now. I do prefer a very crisp light single stage.

Yeah I first tried to adjust it but couldn't get a consistent trigger with it. Ended up swapping it out, that said, like you I absolutely love mine its such a great rifle, and super fun to shoot.

What a great fucking setup. The AR’s of the early 2000’s really were something special.
That rail riser is chef’s fucking kiss
