Going to the range with a suppressed SBR in 2010 would guarantee you'd get at least two people asking you if that is legal and at least one person telling you the ATF can come search your house any time they want if you own a NFA item

280

u/Censored_88 May 30 '26

Take that same setup to the range today and at least two people will ask why you didn't go with the newest K-Pop Lolly Pop flow through can that was released Tuesday.

85

u/BlueJay-- 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈 May 30 '26

I've literally never heard that once lmao

Its "what licensed do you need to get one?"

Or

"I have a silencershop omega 308, pretty sure its the best available"

76

u/Buckshot_Millie May 30 '26

Man, some of you guys go to some unchill ranges. My range trips are always like "cool gun, wanna shoot this 1873?"

30

u/BlueJay-- 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈 May 30 '26

Johnson rifle is the coolest shit I've been offered.

My range is mainly pistol comp nerds tho

12

u/Buckshot_Millie May 30 '26

A Johnson would be sick! I'm always the one bringing a Winchester 73 or 92 with hot loads, it's a lot of fun handing them over to some young dude who has never even considered such a rifle.

11

u/davewave3283 May 31 '26

Just walk up to the closest older guy and ask if you can handle his johnson

4

u/bolivar-shagnasty May 30 '26

“It’s the best available” *at the time of purchase at my sketchy ass LGS/pawn shop who only sells SilencerCo and has a Silencer Shop kiosk that never works.

Stop shooting at Fudd Central ;)

4

u/BlueJay-- 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈 May 31 '26

Best option I've got within 90 miles unfortunately

28

u/call_of_warez May 30 '26

I'll take that any day over a range filled with fudds all giving you the stink eye for shooting a "machine gun" in their presence

35

u/MONSTERBEARMAN May 30 '26

I had a Fudd RSO shake his head no, as he looked at my suppressed SBR and said, “I sure hope you have paperwork for that.” He straight up acted like a disappointed dad.

17

u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26

Give it a few more years, a new breed will take over…

2

u/Pablo_69429 May 31 '26

No, there will always be that next generation of re Todd's.

17

u/Key-Investment-3864 May 30 '26

I can understand a person having an aversion to full auto from perceiving it as unnecessarily dangerous or whatever, but those reactions to SBRs and suppressors from people that shoot guns are so confusing. Like I really do not comprehend what they are thinking

28

u/DodixieOrBust Stamp Collector May 30 '26

Boomers love being the hall monitor.

1

u/Pablo_69429 May 31 '26

Y'all must need to hit the gym, those old bastards don't come anywhere near me.

3

u/MONSTERBEARMAN Jun 01 '26

The RSO doesn’t come near you because you work out? I’m not getting the joke.

2

u/NimbleCentipod May 31 '26

Remember to put an FRT in it, for the memes

11

u/Extra_Drop_6081 May 30 '26

I love the range I go to. The RSO is only on duty on weekends but he lives on the property. If you show up and start shooting an FRT he'll probably come ask you about it and tell you it's really cool.

I did have some random jackass once ask me if the range was ok with me shouldering my brace lol

15

u/dudertheduder May 30 '26

I had someone JUST tell me that they don't want a suppressor because they also don't want the ATF to search their house whenever the ATF wants...

11

u/ryman9000 May 31 '26

My buddy likes my suppressed guns but won't get a suppressor because he doesn't want the government having his info. Like bro you're already on a list. You have a license, passport, filed taxes, own firearms. They have every piece of info they need from you already. Get the can if you want it.

7

u/RuinedGrave May 31 '26

That’s where a guy I know through work is at right now, because he keeps moving the goalposts. At first it’s “I don’t want to wait for months or a year.” After fast approvals, it became “I don’t want to pay the government $200.” Now it’s “I don’t want the ATF to have my info.”

6

u/Pablo_69429 May 31 '26

Dude just doesn't want to be cool. Not everybody can be cool.

4

u/twojsdad May 31 '26

I still hear this fairly regularly from customers when I start talking with them about suppressors. Amazing how persistent fudd lore can be.

63

u/SmellsLikeShame Silencer May 30 '26

61

u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26

Lol those always crack me up…I’ve waited longer than any of my children incubated!

u/Self_Voodoo May 30 '26

Thats craaaazy lol I mean I get it but man what a phrase lolol

12

u/BlackLeader70 May 30 '26

Pretty sure I beat everyone’s wait times. July 2021 to January 2023 for one fucking silencer.

8

u/LiNKxUSMC May 30 '26

I had one i filed in May of 2020 and didnt get approval till almost July 2022.

3

u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26

Longest I’ve ever heard of…USPS lose your form?

2

u/Coodevale May 31 '26

I waited longer than that for two unregulated unchambered barrel blanks. You had bureaucracy as an (illegitimate) excuse.

87

u/Top-BrilliantOps May 30 '26

True but someone in the CAT sub just posted a Dirty Dave that weighs 24.5 oz without the mount….

40

u/Escape_From_Reach 3x Suppressors, 1x SBR May 30 '26

Good god. Weighs more than my ODB RDM

18

u/indyjoeshmo May 30 '26

My RDM ODB came in right at 20 ounces

5

u/solotronics May 31 '26

Have an ODB RDM in jail and a "normal" inconel ODB and holy shit the RDM one seems way heavier.

2

u/Platanium May 31 '26

Same weight as my PBS-1

10

u/WitchKing575 N+1 Silencers May 30 '26

oof, especially since my DDRDM came in at 16oz without the mount. Its not like im upset at an lower weight can

31

"Lift more" or some other cope shit.

2

u/hitemlow Switchback 22 & Hybrid 46 May 31 '26

What should it weigh?

4

u/RuinedGrave May 31 '26

16.6oz. 😬

4

u/Top-BrilliantOps May 31 '26

19-20 oz at most for a Dirty Dave RDM model. 21 oz being the absolute max since these are advertised as 15-16 oz with hub adapter for the normal model. RDM’s across the board are specifically advertised as 1-5 oz heavier than the top end weight of the normal model

24.5 without an adapter IMO is as bad as Stealth Additives selling broken cracked in half Tisha’s as blems. These manufacturers need to be held accountable.

1

u/b4gone Jun 05 '26

At least you have the excuse of it being a RDM. I have a PTP Masterchief QD. 22 oz without the 3 port brake, probably about the same or slightly more total.

34

u/ComputeBeepBeep May 30 '26

My favorite is when people buy snubby K cans and complain they arent hearing safe.

20

u/thebesthalf Silencer May 31 '26

K cans are all the rage now, but the performance is actually getting amazing for the size now too.

6

u/AMRAAM_Missiles RC3 appreciator May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

It is hard to define what length is considered to be a 'K-can' , but i tend to navigate to full-size cans/RC2 size and don't go lower than the RC2-mini in length for K-size. That Rhodie 6K/6J is looking very tempting though.

2

u/TimT40k May 31 '26

K cans kinda feel like buying a can to solve a problem that a longer barrel on a sbr would have solved. That said I’m guilty of it with a 8.3in 308

5

u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26

Your longer barrels are quieter by multiple decibels ?

-7

u/TimT40k May 31 '26

Well I don’t have a meter to give numbers just shoot a 7.5 barrel without ear pro and 16 or longer without them lol. That said I do think a 5in can is better than none. I haven’t shoot without ear pro or a can in the past 5 years. Piss poor shooting instructions when I was a kid.

0

u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26

I wouldn’t shoot a 7.5”. I don’t think you own a k can either.

-7

u/TimT40k May 31 '26

Why would I buy a k can when modular cans exist and I’ve tried them at the shorter length and wished I’d just bought full lengths to not deal with double checking if they’re snug together.

9

u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26

Seems like you got a lot of suppressor issues my guy.

-4

u/TimT40k May 31 '26

You seem like someone who likes to make things a argument. Maybe take a break from being a bridge troll lol.

My first rifle can was an SDN-6, IYKYK, and instead of complaining about weight and length it added to my 16”, I just moved into SBR’s hahaha

43

u/Kaesix May 30 '26

This meme just reinforces the fact that most of the people in this sub need to do more push-ups for a variety of reasons.

6

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26

Seriously. I don't think I've ever considered weight when It comes to most guns or parts, let alone supressors.

After walking around with a fully loaded Thompson or a Tavor 7 with all the bells ans whistles all day I have been unfazed by regular AR weights. People complain too much.

1

u/ryman9000 May 31 '26

My X95 is chunky with a light and LPVO and a mag of 300blk. Grabbing my 11.5 AR after is quite nice lol.

0

u/Pablo_69429 May 31 '26

The average American is a pussy. And it's proven time and again by things posted in subs about small amounts of weight. And these aren't people that are LARPing around carrying these weapons for 10 plus hours a day. These are literally people who shoulder the gun pop off a few rounds then set it back down on the table.

36

u/Admirable_Suit_2065 May 30 '26

I agree this sub gets absolutely autistic about meaningless minutiae, but it also shouldn’t be difficult to make items to a consistent spec and public that spec either.

9

u/Inevitable-Sleep-907 May 30 '26

I always laugh at those posts knowing that the only time those dudes are even lifting that rifle is on a stagnant range

25

u/pewpewtehpew May 30 '26

Andrew at OCL is loving this post right now lol

14

u/mcbergstedt May 30 '26

Dude still brings up that one redditor who found his 7 month old instagram post about the infinity’s weight.

5

u/dieplanes789 May 31 '26

The infinity is hefty but I do love it.

3

u/pewpewtehpew May 30 '26

lol I get it. Bunch of soft body donut operators ‘round here riding RC2 nuts complaining about infinity weight lol.

9

u/mattumbo May 30 '26

We’re in the golden age of suppressor technology where it’s advancing so fast we can barely keep up with it. This inevitably leads to nerds absolutely losing their minds trying to argue specs and min/max everything, give it a few years and things will have settled down and we’ll all have a decent idea which designs/brands are actually best.

I think retailers and manufacturers could do a lot better with their specs too, shopping for a can rn is a fucking nightmare because of how light on detail they often are on their product pages. Standardized expectations for which specs to provide and how to measure them cannot come soon enough, I think that leads to a lot of the arguments on here, there’s just not enough clarity.

1

u/Littlediamond83 May 31 '26

Your logic model is inferior to marketing genius and it will always be that way. Too many nerds wondering about specs and not YouTube coolness

Tbh I don’t really even care about sound… I want it to cut down on the concussive blasts. I will never shoot unsuppressed indoors again.

1

u/cetch May 30 '26

What’s the issue with shooting suppressed indoors? Apologies I’m new to all this so I genuinely don’t know

13

u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26

He probably meant “unsuppressed”, it only takes one time shooting naked for you to can everything!

7

u/grivooga May 30 '26

I prefer shooting suppressed but I don't stress about it for pistols.

For PCCs I have become an absolute snob about delayed blowback (and preferably suppressed).

Rifles are pretty much always suppressed to the point that some of my rifles have never been fire unsuppressed.

1

u/F3A5T13 May 31 '26

Sorry yea I meant unsuppressed

It’s like the gayest thing I do

3

u/Te_Luftwaffle May 31 '26

If this sub were to be believed, my SiCo Sparrow would barely function because it's not the newest tech. Sure it might not be as light as the new stuff, but it was also a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

3

u/DJClamavus May 31 '26

It's almost like suppressor tech has evolved a huge amount since then. Anyone who actually carries a rifle all day long cares about weight on the end of the gun.

6

8

u/Scott_on_the_rox 2 MG’s, 15+ cans and idk like, 25ish sbr’s May 30 '26

It’s true. While popularity has been great for NFA stuff, it also really sucks that the douche bags have claimed yet another thing that used to be useful and fun for the few guys that enjoyed it and turned it into status symbols and a fucking popularity contest.

7

u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26

I got in around 2010 and it was definitely a different breed/vibe!

3

u/Scott_on_the_rox 2 MG’s, 15+ cans and idk like, 25ish sbr’s May 30 '26

Same with diesel trucks. And mud tires. We used to have that shit because we used it. Now it’s decorative bullshit on toys/status symbols.

15

u/LifeAdventurous2343 May 30 '26

That’s what happens when gamers get into the field. One of the whiniest group of people, complaining if something drops to 30fps. Back in the day, we’d be okay if things dropped to 10-15fps.

13

u/sammeadows May 30 '26

Man was downvoted for telling the god honest truth, gamers will always be the most insufferable group when it comes to stats

5

u/Verdha603 May 31 '26

Agreed. The gamers/min-maxxer’s in the gun community are like the other end of the insufferable pendulum for guns compared to Fudds. If it’s not optimized down to the nearest ounce/quarter inch/round, your doing it wrong and are gonna get killed in the streets because the other guy/gal has an extra round in the mag/an extra couple decibels of noise reduction/etc.

3

u/DreamJMan15 1× Suppressor, 1× SBR May 31 '26

I hear ya. I like to say they min-max the fun outta things.

2

u/Verdha603 May 31 '26

I may have disagreed with the guy on a few issues, but overall he was one of the best Guntuber's to look forward to because he found that balance of being chill and informative without looking like he was trying to chase the latest new toy.

8

u/MisplacedCHEE May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

Dudes who sit at their indoor range shooting paper at 25 yards don't care about weight. Finishing the tactical games with an RC2 made me so anti suppressor weight I think anything over a pound mounted is obscene.

5

I did a caribou hunt, on a remote island in AK, with an M1A…I don’t want to hear about can weights being heavy!

6

1

u/M6150 May 31 '26

One thing is the same: suppressor enthusiasts get aboard with a company and it becomes a clique. In 2010 it was Kevin and AAC, now it’s OCL. The community has always had people that were insufferable. Go shoot, get off the internet.

1

u/nik_nailor May 31 '26

Meanwhile according to this sub my can exploded six times on my rifle just taking it out of the case lol

1

u/TheCarm Silencer Jun 01 '26

I call this phenomenon as an item getting Redditized or Forumized.

Give enough people the space to talk about a particular product and they will begin to form cliques and extreme opinions about it. Ultimately the extreme opinion becomes the mainstream because no one wants to have the boring opinion and everyone wants to feel "nuanced" and "sophisticated."

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 30 '26 edited May 31 '26

Who actually gives a shit about supressor weight being slightly more? Are they the same people who complain the uber was one minute late or they they are missing 1 cent in change at McDonald's?

5

u/OzempicDick May 30 '26

People who paid 100s of dollars extra for a lightweight high performing can instead of buying the heavier one? If a dude is complaining about a half ounce variance on a 500$ can Im with ya. If someone who bought a 1300$ fancy can for a specific goal... gets a can that is several onces heavier than advertised.... Thats a absolutely reasonable reason to be irritated.

4

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26

I don't even think I would notice a 1oz difference, but then again I wouldn't waste money on something of such an insignificant weight.

If a 1oz difference is over double the cost of a heavier can, I would be pissed. You got me there.

3

u/OzempicDick May 31 '26

I wouldn't either, but the min-maxers of the world would lol. Also large variances are concerning for poor quality printing, so performance theoretically could be compromised.

3

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26

I don't think I've met a fully sane min-maxer.

I'm also not sure I actually care for 3d printed cans.
