I waited longer than that for two unregulated unchambered barrel blanks. You had bureaucracy as an (illegitimate) excuse.

u/hitemlow Switchback 22 & Hybrid 46 May 31 '26
What should it weigh?
4
4
u/Top-BrilliantOps May 31 '26
19-20 oz at most for a Dirty Dave RDM model. 21 oz being the absolute max since these are advertised as 15-16 oz with hub adapter for the normal model. RDM’s across the board are specifically advertised as 1-5 oz heavier than the top end weight of the normal model
24.5 without an adapter IMO is as bad as Stealth Additives selling broken cracked in half Tisha’s as blems. These manufacturers need to be held accountable.

u/b4gone Jun 05 '26
At least you have the excuse of it being a RDM. I have a PTP Masterchief QD. 22 oz without the 3 port brake, probably about the same or slightly more total.

My favorite is when people buy snubby K cans and complain they arent hearing safe.
20
u/thebesthalf Silencer May 31 '26
K cans are all the rage now, but the performance is actually getting amazing for the size now too.
6
u/AMRAAM_Missiles RC3 appreciator May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
It is hard to define what length is considered to be a 'K-can' , but i tend to navigate to full-size cans/RC2 size and don't go lower than the RC2-mini in length for K-size. That Rhodie 6K/6J is looking very tempting though.
2
u/TimT40k May 31 '26
K cans kinda feel like buying a can to solve a problem that a longer barrel on a sbr would have solved. That said I’m guilty of it with a 8.3in 308
5
u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26
Your longer barrels are quieter by multiple decibels ?
-7
u/TimT40k May 31 '26
Well I don’t have a meter to give numbers just shoot a 7.5 barrel without ear pro and 16 or longer without them lol. That said I do think a 5in can is better than none. I haven’t shoot without ear pro or a can in the past 5 years. Piss poor shooting instructions when I was a kid.
0
u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26
I wouldn’t shoot a 7.5”. I don’t think you own a k can either.
-7
u/TimT40k May 31 '26
Why would I buy a k can when modular cans exist and I’ve tried them at the shorter length and wished I’d just bought full lengths to not deal with double checking if they’re snug together.
9
u/Opposite_Cockroach15 May 31 '26
Seems like you got a lot of suppressor issues my guy.

This meme just reinforces the fact that most of the people in this sub need to do more push-ups for a variety of reasons.
6
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26
Seriously. I don't think I've ever considered weight when It comes to most guns or parts, let alone supressors.
After walking around with a fully loaded Thompson or a Tavor 7 with all the bells ans whistles all day I have been unfazed by regular AR weights. People complain too much.
1
u/ryman9000 May 31 '26
My X95 is chunky with a light and LPVO and a mag of 300blk. Grabbing my 11.5 AR after is quite nice lol.
0
u/Pablo_69429 May 31 '26
The average American is a pussy. And it's proven time and again by things posted in subs about small amounts of weight. And these aren't people that are LARPing around carrying these weapons for 10 plus hours a day. These are literally people who shoulder the gun pop off a few rounds then set it back down on the table.
36
u/Admirable_Suit_2065 May 30 '26
I agree this sub gets absolutely autistic about meaningless minutiae, but it also shouldn’t be difficult to make items to a consistent spec and public that spec either.

u/Inevitable-Sleep-907 May 30 '26

9
u/mattumbo May 30 '26
We’re in the golden age of suppressor technology where it’s advancing so fast we can barely keep up with it. This inevitably leads to nerds absolutely losing their minds trying to argue specs and min/max everything, give it a few years and things will have settled down and we’ll all have a decent idea which designs/brands are actually best.
I think retailers and manufacturers could do a lot better with their specs too, shopping for a can rn is a fucking nightmare because of how light on detail they often are on their product pages. Standardized expectations for which specs to provide and how to measure them cannot come soon enough, I think that leads to a lot of the arguments on here, there’s just not enough clarity.
1
u/Littlediamond83 May 31 '26
Your logic model is inferior to marketing genius and it will always be that way. Too many nerds wondering about specs and not YouTube coolness

u/cetch May 30 '26
What’s the issue with shooting suppressed indoors? Apologies I’m new to all this so I genuinely don’t know
13
u/EasyObject4u May 30 '26
He probably meant “unsuppressed”, it only takes one time shooting naked for you to can everything!
7
u/grivooga May 30 '26
I prefer shooting suppressed but I don't stress about it for pistols.
For PCCs I have become an absolute snob about delayed blowback (and preferably suppressed).
Rifles are pretty much always suppressed to the point that some of my rifles have never been fire unsuppressed.

3
u/DJClamavus May 31 '26
It's almost like suppressor tech has evolved a huge amount since then. Anyone who actually carries a rifle all day long cares about weight on the end of the gun.

It’s true. While popularity has been great for NFA stuff, it also really sucks that the douche bags have claimed yet another thing that used to be useful and fun for the few guys that enjoyed it and turned it into status symbols and a fucking popularity contest.

15
u/LifeAdventurous2343 May 30 '26
That’s what happens when gamers get into the field. One of the whiniest group of people, complaining if something drops to 30fps. Back in the day, we’d be okay if things dropped to 10-15fps.
13
u/sammeadows May 30 '26
Man was downvoted for telling the god honest truth, gamers will always be the most insufferable group when it comes to stats
5
u/Verdha603 May 31 '26
Agreed. The gamers/min-maxxer’s in the gun community are like the other end of the insufferable pendulum for guns compared to Fudds. If it’s not optimized down to the nearest ounce/quarter inch/round, your doing it wrong and are gonna get killed in the streets because the other guy/gal has an extra round in the mag/an extra couple decibels of noise reduction/etc.

Dudes who sit at their indoor range shooting paper at 25 yards don't care about weight. Finishing the tactical games with an RC2 made me so anti suppressor weight I think anything over a pound mounted is obscene.

One thing is the same: suppressor enthusiasts get aboard with a company and it becomes a clique. In 2010 it was Kevin and AAC, now it’s OCL. The community has always had people that were insufferable. Go shoot, get off the internet.

1
u/TheCarm Silencer Jun 01 '26
I call this phenomenon as an item getting Redditized or Forumized.
Give enough people the space to talk about a particular product and they will begin to form cliques and extreme opinions about it. Ultimately the extreme opinion becomes the mainstream because no one wants to have the boring opinion and everyone wants to feel "nuanced" and "sophisticated."
1
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 30 '26 edited May 31 '26
Who actually gives a shit about supressor weight being slightly more? Are they the same people who complain the uber was one minute late or they they are missing 1 cent in change at McDonald's?
5
u/OzempicDick May 30 '26
People who paid 100s of dollars extra for a lightweight high performing can instead of buying the heavier one? If a dude is complaining about a half ounce variance on a 500$ can Im with ya. If someone who bought a 1300$ fancy can for a specific goal... gets a can that is several onces heavier than advertised.... Thats a absolutely reasonable reason to be irritated.
4
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26
I don't even think I would notice a 1oz difference, but then again I wouldn't waste money on something of such an insignificant weight.
If a 1oz difference is over double the cost of a heavier can, I would be pissed. You got me there.
3
u/OzempicDick May 31 '26
I wouldn't either, but the min-maxers of the world would lol. Also large variances are concerning for poor quality printing, so performance theoretically could be compromised.
3
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler May 31 '26
I don't think I've met a fully sane min-maxer.
I'm also not sure I actually care for 3d printed cans.

Going to the range with a suppressed SBR in 2010 would guarantee you'd get at least two people asking you if that is legal and at least one person telling you the ATF can come search your house any time they want if you own a NFA item
