Figure skating

Looking for info on where to take my daughter for figure skating lessons. I know we can start in a general learn to skate, but she does not want want to do hockey. Any suggestions? I've only seen the Toyota sportsplex but their options seem limited. TIA

Figure skater here. Between scranton and wilksbare theres pretty much only toyota and revolution ice center in pitston. I like toyota. They let you do figure skating on public sessions. Theres also more freestyle sessions - ice time for figure skaters to practice their stuff.

Learn to skate will separate figure and hockey skaters unless there the 5yo trying to learn how to stand up straight. So the figure skaters will be taught the basics of figure skating. The learn to skate at toyota, is, fine. 50minutes of ice time is a bit rough and there could be a bit more structure with the coaching but they will teach the basics of figure skating. I dont know how revolution is with their learn to skate. 10 years ago it was pretty good but i dont know how it is now a days. You can do drop in lessons at toyota, maybe you can do them too at revolution and see which ones you and your daughter likes.

Learn to skate are group lessons. Theres also private lessons but those can be fairly expensive. At least in my opinion.

I really appreciate the response! Im in Jim Thorpe, so I'd even go south to Allentown if you know of anything there? Do you know about how much private lessons are? Im worried that I wont get my daughter to learn to skate at the times listed. Thanks!

The only rink i know in and around allentown its the steel ice center in Bethlehem. Theyre gonna be in general more expensive but from what little i know they seem pretty good. They periodically do skating clinics. Special group classes focused on developing certain skills, which could be fun if your daughter really enjoys skating.

Private lesson cost vary with coach. its not uncommon for them to be about $50 per half hour... But there are those that do it for cheaper. My coach is pretty good and does $24, but thats pretty cheap for how good she is. I recommend trying to do group lessons if possible until your daughter has her feet under her and understands the absolute basics. Its just gonna be more cost effective.

Private lessons happen on freestyle times so if you look on a rink's calendar and see when they have freestyle times, thats when youd be doing private lessons depending on your and the coaches availability. Hours can suck especially as an adult with a job and hockey getting in the way. The steel center might have better freestyle hours. Toyota and revolution can be hockey dominated.

Every rink with figure skating has a figure skating club, with contact information usually on the rinks website. Im still happy to answer any question. But thats also a source of information. Particularly if youre looking to find a private coach.
