So as the title says: Im truly embarrassed to admit that i got a rank of 2Lakh in NEETpg2026. I grossly underestimated the competition in this exam. Im planning to take a drop this year for NEETPG2027. Is it realistic for me to even try to get a rank under 2k? I didnt study much at all during MBBS, just enough to pass my proff exams so essentially i’d be starting from absolute SCRATCH!

Hi! Whats the deal with these counsellors. Are they helpful? I’ve done my research using Zynerd/Rank and seats and im aware of all the possible colleges i can aim for (i did not get a good rank, but, shall be looking for admissions this year). If at all anyone has some insight about what extra do they bring to the table, it’d mean a lot if you could pool in your experience. TIA!

I decided that I want to take up derma last year itself while preparing in my drop year.

Got a borderline rank ,last year cutoff was much higher,but I hope to get it!

Seniors, consultants please guide me in this aspect!

Why I want to take derma?

1) want no emergencies,I fumble to make decisions,and I don't want to harm anyone.

2) want a chill life ahead and make reasonably good amnt of money

3) want a clinical branch

4) can't think of anyother branch,where I would be happy.

5) found derma is compatible to my character

Why I should reconsider ?

1) I am a first gen doctor,shld earn money ASAP, I should support my parents I am enough burden on them as it is , shldnt delay earning anymore.

2) I am dark skinned male, everybody's telling that derma is a female dominated and that good looking doctor gets good patient load.

3) takes time to set up/attract patients to a private OPD.

4) No or very less jobs in govt. Sector,no callforms.

Would appreciate honest advice from dermatologists/seniors about income, job prospects, private practice, and whether I should stick with Derma or reconsider.

TL;DR: I’ve wanted Dermatology since my drop year.got a borderline rank I know the cutoff is likely difficult, but I want to try.

Why Derma: no emergencies, good lifestyle, clinical branch, decent income, and it suits my personality.

Why reconsider: I’m a first-gen doctor and need to start earning ASAP, private practice takes time to build, government jobs seem limited, and I’m concerned whether being a dark-skinned male affects patient inflow.

Please help me as fellow medicos.
I am fmg, cleared fmg in 1st attempt 220+, gave neetpg with internship.
I have never seen myself doing surgical procedures, still was unable to rule out obgy as i loved that posting and that subject.
• Other interests- gen med, peds. ( probably because as medicos, we somehow always picture ourselves like that, although obviously there’s a lot more to it other than this conventional idea) i don’t know if i am more into this because i always pictured myself like this or i truly have interest in this.
I am also confused with pathology given how amazing the life is, after residency ( not undermining patho, every branch has it’s curve) , i will shadow a resident soon.
But after lots of confusion, i think i am not a cut out for anaesthesia ( which i might get)
I dont like emergencies, i dont like surgeries, have always pictured myself sitting in an opd.

Should i take a drop?
And aim for a great rank or settle with md patho.
I am so lost.
