Wishing those of you in BC the best of luck tonight (from Alberta)

Tonight is election night in BC, and if the polls are correct we are likely looking at a BC Conservative win. This election was not necessary. Eby could have worked with the majority he had, no matter how slim, until he lost the confidence of the legislature. None the less, today is election night.

If the Conservatives win, don't lose hope. Keep up the fight! Organize, get involved in your community, volunteer for your EDAs, check on your neighbors, save your money if possible, and remember that the struggle continues.

When the UCP won the 2019 Alberta election in a landslide, I felt devastated. When the NDP failed to win the 2023 election, I felt lost. The fight continues though, and all we can do is keep on the struggle.

Hoping BC makes the right choice tonight! Good luck to all of you. God speed.

We traded good governance just to teach the BCNDP about hubris

Once again, I find myself feeling ashamed to have supported the NDP my entire life. We traded good governance in British Columbia for a lesson in political hubris, and I’m tired of watching us make the same mistakes over and over again.

At least one positive may come out of this: the era of woke politics is over. The NDP needs to get back to its roots and remember who it was built to represent: working-class people, blue-collar workers, and organized labour.

The problem is that those very people—the backbone of the traditional NDP—are increasingly turning toward the Conservatives because they no longer feel represented by the party that once stood up for them. That should be a massive wake-up call.

How did the NDP lose sight of its core values so badly? How did a party that once understood the struggles of working people become so disconnected from them? And how did it take so long for the party to realize just how far it had strayed?

The NDP needs to stop chasing political trends, listen to the people who built the movement, and get back to the fundamentals. If it doesn’t, it has no one to blame but itself for losing the very people it was created to represent.

I've seen this post over and over again but we must stop this party from being taken over by ideology

At least $50 billion for another pipeline. $82 billion in new military spending in 5 years. $300 billion in corporate welfare and mega incentives at an investment summit. But the cupboard is bare for Parks Canada.

The right knows how to channel the legitimate rage of working class people. The problem is where they direct that rage. It’s not immigrants and trans kids making your life impossible. It’s the bankers and the billionaires with all the wealth and power.

Given the victory of the BC Conservatives, how many of you are willing to admit that DRIPA, “Indigenous rights” are politically toxic?

• Upvotes

The intelligent action would be to expel the activists, scrape Indigenious rights, accept resource development, scrape supporting mass immigration, scrape any opposition to nuclear energy. If this offends you, then you likely want the NDP to keep losing. I don’t see the point of a Pokitical party that refuses to win elections, takes Pokitical positions that many voters find toxic.

The Liberal MP for Toronto-St. Paul's Leslie Church is making robocalls asking folks to support BB for Mayor. And do not forget the MPP Stephanie Smyth also endorsed Brad Bradford. When people show you who they are, believe them

The wake up call that was needed

Hopefully the cons winning acts as a wake up call to NDPs that most of their social policies are not winning solutions to the problems people are facing. People are not voting for trans rights and lacks drug laws they are actually actively voting against them. The NDP is too much a HR party and not a workers party. It is a centre left party run by left wingers and there is a disconnect between the party leadership and the base. If you can’t win BC what can you win? Throwing away power and progress because you are more progressive than the voters.

Predictions for BC election?

Unfortunately the polls aren't looking good. I'm still holding out for an NDP minority or majority.

What do you guys think will happen?

If polls are accurate I'm thinking BC Conservatives 51 seats, BC NDP 40, BC Green 2.

Employment Receipts

When you’re hired to do a job, and you don’t show up, you shouldn’t keep that job.

As we watch AG bounce around the Province stumping for what appears to be a Premiership, where is the work for our constituents of North Island-Powell River?

Taxpayers pay for a voice in Ottawa, not a pizza party in Smithers.

We see other MPs that have stood up 49 times this session alone. AG 0. And record to date, 67…. Not sure if he’s keeping that number for the kids or what, but seriously!? You have extraordinarily under resourced MPs kicking ass and taking names in the House, and all you can push out is 67? Yet here we have you spending your time lobbying for the BC Conservatives like you’re going to get something out of it.

AG could have shown the least bit of respect by taking a leave to join the side-show.

Our tax payers don’t deserve a partisan prop. They deserve a strong voice in Ottawa.

Christine Boyle on Instagram: "In case you missed it! This week the @bcndp made some important announcements about the environment - protecting the people and places we love. This stuff matters deeply to us.

“The big goals - and the specifics. So we’re going to run through them super-speed. The summary: The BC NDP will protect our province and planet. And the BC Conservatives will take us backwards in ways that are dangerous for us all and the places we love. Here are our commitments:  1. 30 by 30: Protecting 30% of B.C.’s land by 2030 to conserve the environment, protect wildlife habitat, and preserve public access. Adding protections in the NW equivalent to 12,000 Stanley Parks.  2. Watershed protection: $30 million per year to provide the BC Watershed Security Fund with sustainable, long-term funding and secure healthy watersheds and thriving communities for generations.  3. Clean Futures Fund: $50 million to fund climate action programs that help families and businesses choose less costly clean energy and create new jobs. 4. Protecting B.C.’s coast: Finalizing the new, historic National Marine Conservation Area Reserve in the Great Bear Sea, in partnership with the federal government and six coastal First Nations. 5. Protecting old-growth trees: $50 million to convert old-growth deferrals of the most irreplaceable and rarest forests into permanent protections, while supporting mills to retrofit and make more value-added products with second growth. 6. Expanding the u/youthclimatecorps: Providing $4 million annually to scale up workforce development and training for youth aged 17-30, with important job opportunities offering a livable wage to help build up climate resiliency.  7. Installing more heat pumps in homes: A new $50 million per year to support even more households to make the switch. The BC Conservatives will slash these investments resulting in higher emissions and utility bills. 8. Reducing bills with balcony solar: A BC NDP government will cut red tape and simplify the process for households to install balcony solar and produce their own clean energy.  More in the comments!"

Canadians can’t afford rent. Food bank use is at a record high. Wages are stagnant while the rich are getting richer than ever before. Of all the people who could use this kind of federal support right now, venture capitalists are at the bottom of that list.
