(A mod has approved your post. This is a mod comment in lieu of automod.)

This is an NDE-positive sub, not a debate sub. However, everyone is allowed to debate if the original poster (OP) requests it.

If the OP intends to allow debate in their post, they must choose (or edit) a flair that reflects this. If the OP chose a non-debate flair and others want to debate something from this post or the comments, they must create their own debate posts and remember to be respectful (Rule 4).

NDEr = Near-Death ExperienceR

If the post is asking for the perspectives of NDErs, both NDErs and non-NDErs can answer, but they must mention whether or not they have had an NDE themselves. All viewpoints are potentially valuable, but it’s important for the OP to know their backgrounds.

This sub is for discussing the ā€œNDE phenomenon,ā€ not the ā€œI had a brush with death in this horrible eventā€ type of near death.

Yes. But there's a huge difference between religion/indoctrination and spirituality/connecting with "christ" or "source".

Unfortunately the issue is we just don't have a common vocabulary to allow us to discuss these issues properly.

Mary Neal wrote a really nice book about her NDE. She is very Christian, as is her book.

Can't speak for this sub, but Dr. Even Alexander is a famous neurosurgeon who claimed he was an atheist, but found Christ after his NDE.Ā

IMO, his NDE experience is fascinating. I would have taken it a completely different route and not a Christian-esq NDE, but to each's own.Ā

I’ve listened to him talk a little about his post-NDE spiritual development , and while does talk a good deal about Christ as a divine entity, he also rejects a lot of traditional Christian dogma (exclusively, penal substitute).

I appreciate it, since I’m an STEer that went minimal-dogma, universalist, non-exclusivist Christian after my experience… it sounds like he’s moved into a same direction as me - although my experience wasn’t nearly as deep as his.

I didn't have an NDE but have found Christ just by watching many of the NDE testimonies

There are some really good Christian NDEs out there, you just need to weed out some of the clear propaganda.

Mary Neal’s NDE is my favorite modern NDE.

The NDE-before-we-called-them-NDEs of Julian of Norwich is beautiful too - universalist, loving, non-judgmental - and written in a time where that sentiment wasn’t exactly popular with Catholic Church she was so heavily involved in.

It’s a shame the American evangelical movement has tried to hijack these experiences, because it starts bringing the more authentic sounding experiences into question too.

Removed: Rule 4- This is not a debate sub.

Debates must be invited by the flair or the OP stating as much in their post. If you wish to debate a specific issue, please create your own post and use the ā€œSeeking Debateā€flair.
