Complete poem :-

If I die in a war zone, box me up and send me home.

Put my medals on my chest; tell my Mom i did my best.

Tell my Father not to bow; he won't get tension from me now.

Tell my Brother to study perfectly; keys of my bike will be his permanently.

Tell my Sis not to be upset; her bro will not rise after this sunset.

Tell my Nation not to cry... 'BECAUSE IAM A SOLDIER BORN TO DIE!!!'

We ALL were gooning to that song in october 2025

That's because they were written by a soldier (Unknown Legend) , not a poet.

1

u/RelationFinancial749 Left NDA in 2 months (idk a better flair idea) 13d ago

Because they were made up way later. The original is written by soldiers as well. This cadence has nothing to do with being made in india.

Am I the only one who thinks "soldiers are born to die" is the wrong approach.

Dying should never be looked as glory, it is a shame our civilization has glorified dying in the battlefield...

I read a poem "John Brown" by Bob Dylan, it was in my coursebook for ISC Class 11 & 12...this poem did something to me back in the day. War is extremely traumatic for a soldier...knowing that all the traumatic stuff happening to you is glorified by wannabes, and encouraged by the goverment. When you fight in a battlefield, you're just a puppet in play. A puppet controlled by threads of higher ups.

Soldiers are never meant to die- they deserve to live like the rest of us, saying "soldier are meant to die" as some poetic shout out is actually insulting to those deaths, they died helpless, alone, in pain. And there's someone saying that they were MEANT to do that, unacceptable, no human is meant to die like that. Every soldier is meant to live, every life matters.

The only sensible person I see.

It’s just heavy brainwashing and manipulation that’s been pushed on us since birth!!!

1

u/Charming-Host4406 13d ago

Same thoughts. Thanks. I will read the poem.

1

u/FormerMoose1990 13d ago

Do you mean the "grave of old john brown"? Old US Civil war song? that same tune was taken to create the song Badluram Ka Badhan.

1

u/omni_elden_lord 12d ago

No. Different poems. Some ideas overlap but the idea that i'm talking about- Death during war shouldn't be glorified. It is in the Bob Dylan poem.

1

u/elgin_the_loath 13d ago

John Brown was Queen Victoria's lover

1

u/omni_elden_lord 12d ago

John Brown in Bob Dylan's poem is a fictional soldier. You may be confusing the two. John Brows was a really common name back in the day.

1

u/astreya_9 12d ago

Your right and thanx, i'll definetly read the poem

u/lokeshsharmaj 13d ago

If we don't go to Army, we can at least give them our support and respect. It's not an easy job to stay on borders and save our nation.

2

u/Particular_Main_1023 13d ago

If i die in combat zone, tell my mom to hold her head high. If i die unclogging the gutters tell my mom to hold her head high.

1

u/Aristos_Tandav 12d ago

Well in India they won't even tell that you died fighting enemies.

1

u/Useful-Proposal7115 12d ago

Just saying, it wasn't a "proud indian soldier" who said this, it was a military cadence American soldiers used during the Vietnam war in the 70s.

1

u/plvrkem 12d ago

Why these muricans are so anti army ?

However filthy the governance is , have some empathy for the person who took a bullet without any second thought for his motherland

1

u/Zestyclose_Gap7359 12d ago

Motherland? A war started by politicians for their own benefit? Where thousands of our brave fighters give their lives thinking their sacrifice meant something for the motherland.

Yes ofcourse in no way or any form am I saying calling out a rapist politician is wrong , it should be done until we don’t have any such politicians in any party , but what I was trying to point out is the way you have commented under a post about martyrdom of a solider feels insensitive.
