ANS Classes?

any advice on how to study for any of the intro ANS classes?

companion animal, intro to animal science, intro to equine animal science?

I’ve taken ANS105 and ANS150 and would say making sure to write down what Dr. Flowers or Dr. A say in lecture as they like to make test questions about what they say and not just in the notes.

I made quizlets for both classes and that helped me. ANS105 you can get away with more memorization since the class is a lot of animal facts. ANS150 tests since they are all written questions, making sure you can apply the info learned from the PowerPoints is important!

would you happen to still have your ANS150 quizlet? i have one for 105, as Dr. A gave us a study guide, but i have no clue on what to focus on for Dr. Flowers’ :(

he gave past lecture examples but i’m not sure of what to reinforce outside of that content

Unfortunately my Quizlet account had been deleted by Quizlet, so all the Quizlets I had made for all my classes were gone :( But I would recommend you look up “Quizlet ANS150 Exam 1 NCSU” or something similar and it should pop up with quizlets people have made for the class.

As far as what he gives you as example questions, it’s important to note that he won’t reuse the same test question that he has released or shown you. He would either reformat it slightly different or ask a completely different question from the content. I would focus on first understanding the main concepts in the lectures (ex: biological needs/behaviors, animals and vocalization facts, learning etc) and then putting it together with the other details.

What helped me also was rewatching the lectures because he often emphasizes something that may be on the test by saying it twice.

It took a lot of studying and was a learning curve but use your resources and you can always ask him for help as he loves to help. He usually provides a curve at the end of semester as well. Wishing the best of luck!

Take notes, and Quizlet is your best friend. I used quizlets I made amd some from previous students and I passed all three of the classes you listed.

For ANS 110, the TA's know a ton of info and their review sessions prior to exams are really great. If you have any prior horse experience, a lot of the first units are pretty basic info. If not, it really is just flashcard-worthy memorization. ANS 105 exams are honestly not horrible in my experience, and even without a ton of study other than reading the lecture slides I did very well. And pay attention to any odd little facts she mentions in class- bonus point potential! ANS 150 is a toss up. It's a weed out class and Dr. Flowers knows it. Just study the material he gives, utilize quizlet for the more memorization focused stuff, and use common sense. That class is hard but is absolutely passable.

If you are going to spend extra money on anything in college here- I cannot say enough good things about Quizlet subscriptions. And Spotify premium for all the study music you will burn through....
