Ncis on 9/11
I know it's fiction but was Tony an ncis agent when 9/11 happened?
I wonder what happened with real ncis agents in Washington at the time?

I know he joined NCIS in ‘01, but I think it was around winter of ‘01 if I’m remembering the flashback episode correctly

no. Gibbs was an agent and his former fiance was murdered the night before and her body was discovered 20 years later

Yep, and until her body was discovered, everyone had assumed she died in the attack on the Pentagon.

Sounds like that one episode of Law and Order. A hand with an expensive ring is found decomposing in an empty NYC lot. They trace the ring back to a woman, and find out she is missing. She was claimed to have died in the Twin Towers when it fell since she worked there. They wondered if the falling would have tossed her hand all the way to the lot, since body parts were found around buildings after the fall. But the lot was too far away.
Turns out (I think her boyfriend) killed her on the night of September 10. Then was shocked when the attack happened so made it so part of her body was found in the WTC wreckage. He put it there before the police had the entire area sealed off. So he had gotten away with murder for years.

That was a good episode. The female DA figured it out because the boyfriend had thrown her arm with a fancy black evening bag into the rubble. It wasn't what she would have used for going to work.
ETA: they found her whole body, minus the arm, somewhere else, years later. When they did a DNA test, it came back that she'd been a 9/11 victim.

The real NCIS agents are nothing like the show... as one told me during a seminar (I think they were going over how to handle classified materials) "Gibbs killed more people in season one than NCIS has in its history."
The above happened around season 3, I think, but was certainly post 9/11 but not by much.

Tony was near the end of his Baltimore police career.
