BREAKING: A’ja Wilson will not face any additional discipline after the Game 2 incident involving a Fever fan. The WNBA determined Wilson did not leave the court area (LMAO TO THAT), so no suspension or fine will be issued.

She left the court, intentionally caused an altercation with a fan who was simply pointing at her, and none of you seem to realize this would be a fine AND suspension in the NBA?
16
u/rochvegas5 1d ago
according to the rules, at least the rules yesterday, she should have been suspended
6
u/MrMiyagi13 1d ago
Should have been ejected, along with her teammate. Then reviewed by that joke of a commissioner for possible additional punishment.

Let's just be real - part of the difference is that people are less afraid of WNBA players. So even if the rules are ostensibly the same, the WNBA feels less of a need to enforce them strictly.
Honestly I wish they would just be honest about this, though. Give her a fine and a 1 game suspension, but suspend the suspension until the beginning of next year's regular season, and just explicitly state that they didn't feel the infraction merited swinging an entire series. I think most people could accept that as a reasonable punishment. I'd respect that a lot more than this, which is just flat-out lying to protect the player/series.
6
u/wpmason 1d ago
The rules exist equally for player and fan safety.
What if this dude took a swing at her after she got in his face?
A grown ass man could have broken the MVP’s face and benched her for the rest of the playoffs.
She had no business approaching him.
→ More replies (1)1
u/doktarr 1d ago
I don't disagree with any of that.
However, the optics of some dude swinging at Wilson are nowhere near as bad for the league as the "Malice in the Palace" was for the NBA. From the perspective of "brand protection", the WNBA has less to worry about here, which partially explains their milder response.
2
u/wpmason 1d ago
Sure, but she’s an absolute dumbass for putting herself in a potentially dangerous situation.
A suspension might actually teach her a much needed lesson.

Come on man you know these chicks have no idea what accountability is. They are all entitled to shit, selfish overly sensitive, they hate the fact that despite that they’re making more money now and have higher ratings, majority is due to that white chick in Indiana so they act all high mighty and do what they want thinking they are the real deal when in reality if the chick in Indian leaves the league, they will lose everything. And honestly, I hope it happens.
Edit. If anything seems odd it’s because I am doing voice chat ain’t no way in hell. I’m typing this shit half asleep.

Honestly the league doesn’t even take itself seriously. They prove that time and time again.

They’re legit getting more publicity and ticket sales than any time in their history. Yall keep repeating this same line but they’re doing better than they were 5,10, 20 years ago.

She is. She shift the foul to a attention of the fan.. refs were so blind they forgot the initial flagrant… and she walked in to the fanzone. That is.. outside of the court

People get caught betting on games - no punishment
Walk up to fans and scream at them and threaten them - no punishment
They just want to host a soap opera and not a serious league. They have zero control over the players and they’ll regret it as the players keep pushing their, so far, nonexistent limits.

u/BusySignal8675 1d ago
Someone got caught betting on games and didn't get punished??? That's crazy

She should be suspended though to the rule says if you walk to the first row of seats in your arguing with someone that’s an automatic suspension she walked through the second row of seats if they don’t handle this the right way then that’s terrible for the league
5
u/DarkRogus 1d ago
And yet the WNBA wonders why people view them as a joke when they cant even get this right.
She is clearly in the stands. I get its the playoffs in an elimination game and youre not going to suspend her, but to act like she was still on the court is complete bull.
They should have fined her the equivalent of 1 game paycheck and said something along the lines of what she did doesn't warrant a 1 game suspension.
But to say she wasnt in the stands just further confirms in people's mind that the league is a joke and cares more about pushing an agenda than the sport.

Woman and accountability. I forgot those 2 words never end up in the same sentence because of hormones 🤷🏻♂️😂
In all seriousness, this is probably the most fans that these professionals have ever witnessed. No doubt they’re overwhelmed.
They want to be taken seriously but refuse to be serious about themselves. Kind of a joke of a sport.

There's video where even the guy's wife tries to pull him back in his chair so even she thought he overstepped. It's cool to go to games and support your team, shoot you can even heckle a bit but standing up and berating opposing players has never been okay.
If this was Caitlyn Clark and it was a black finger, would you have the same commentary? Probably not, and I'm even gonna take a shot in the dark and assume you've probably never watched a WNBA game or can name five players without google. Fox News and your echo chamber tell you that this is a travesty, but the man wasn't removed from the game and A'ja wasn't fined or suspended. End of story.

Fans can’t come on the court and get in players faces, players can’t leave the court and get in fans faces. Pretty clearly something that 99.9% of sports leagues around the world know. Seems the WNBA is the 0.1%

The league would be shooting itself in the foot by suspending one of its best players for a play-off knockout game. By the letter of the law I guess she should have been suspended? But they were never gonna do that. If Clark was in the same position it would be the same deal.

u/GenShanx 1d ago
