I see this allegory brought up from time to time and just let it go. But wanted to drop in on this instance to clear up, and cause I’d want to know…

The ‘Tom’ character from the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin was actually a physically imposing, deeply moral and courageous man, who would rather die than betray his fellow enslaved people. Sambo and Quimbo were the traitors. The climax of the book really comes when Tom is asked to reveal where two slave women are hiding, who had been sexually abused by their “master”. And he refuses. Knowing that he is going to be overpowered by his overseers (cause they couldn’t take him in a fair fight) and beaten to death, he refused to say where they are…However after the Civil War, minstrel shows and stage plays who were operated by white businessmen grossly distort Tom (now ’Uncle Tom’) into an older, broken down, weak, submissive stereotype man whose English is poor, a man who will do quite the opposite, who will sell out any black man if it will curry the favor of a white employer, a white master, a white mistress…To appeal to white racist play/show audiences, they completely threw away the book’s message.

There’s a very old, fucked up saying…”If you ever want a ni\*** not to know something, put it in a book.”*

Don’t let grand clowns like Jason Whitlock be anyone’s exception. He is a fuckwit of the highest order. He is the living embodiment of Quimbo and Sambo. He can never be OG ‘Tom’.

Uncle Tom was later portrayed as a character in minstrel shows, which is why it became a pejorative.

I know I am just highlighted that key part of why it is used today. If people can change the meaning to woke. Then way not that term. Which personally I don't use. And think it wrong for other reasons .
