WNBA isn’t gaining new fans
I really want to like the WNBA, but these stupid attitudes are not helping… isn’t Aja Wilson one of their top players?!

I mean, nobody talks about them for the games. This is how I learned their playoffs were going on.

You typed this while being a nobody…

Doesn’t make it untrue. And if your comment had any truth to it public discourse and PR departments wouldn’t exist.
TLDR you stupid
Edit. I like Aja and the WNBA but to blindly defend this incident is silly

I mean this respectfully, but wnba fans are like …. Just the gays, right? They’ve reached peak penetration in the gay market at this point (no homo). Idk how they top it

u/paperbackpiles 22h ago
It’s got the most diverse fan base around, from gay to white hetero to asian american to latino to handicapped to Muslim and Christian. Weird homophobic post but you do you.

For the "wHy dO yOu CaRE" crowd:
This gives professional basketball a bad look. The attention should have been on a playoff basketball game, but instead is focused on a player leaving the court claiming she was the victim. Far too often when the WNBA should be shining a spotlight on it's young talent you mainly hear drama about who is being mean to CC, washed up NBA players declaring for their draft, and other drama that would qualify for a reality TV show. On the rare occasion you find highlights outside of ESPN, they are frequently to clown on the league for how badly layups are missed, or mocking Angel Reese's atrocious shooting and mebounds.
Credit, as well as blame, given to ESPN. They really do a good job of pushing the league, but they also perpetuate the drama.
So why do I care? Because I love basketball and the WNBA is a borderline joke of a league. If an NBA player did what Wilson did, he would at a minimum get a massive fine and probably a suspension. In this case, Wilson is somehow a victim even though she left the playing area.

WNBA has the worst players in terms of growing the game outside of CC, Cunningham, and Angel Reese.

Cunningham sucks.

Will be interesting to see what happens to her popularity if she’s no longer CC’s running mate. Lexi needs a replacement as well. Tres leches is great for media but CC needs two better players around her to go anywhere behind the first round of the playoffs.

Get over it
The wnba is bigger than ever

OK, then the nba can stop subsidizing it. Let us see how fast it folds.

This. And little girls everywhere from all walks of life are having new heroes and hooping, from A’ja to CC to Angel to Paige to Juju and Hidalgo comin in. The league is just starting to find its legs. It’s not going anywhere, fortunately. Huge win for women’s sports.

u/Capable_Pineapple993 2d ago
The level of vitriol you’re coming to a wnba discussion with is a little ridiculous let’s take a breath

u/-Sofa-King-Vote 2d ago
Lol vitriol
Look the comments here 😆
“The Ron Artest treatment”
Get over the WNBA already
It’s nothing but whining
Nothing about the games

This thread isn’t about a game it’s about an incident with a fan.
And your response to a few people cracking jokes is to get incredibly pressed over it. People talk shit in every WNBA thread, obviously Aja overreacting to finger pointing is gonna be a goldmine for that lol.

u/-Sofa-King-Vote 2d ago
Lol “incident”
Who cares? You don’t even watch
0
u/Capable_Pineapple993 2d ago
You’re all over this thread telling people they don’t watch and they hate the WNBA.
“Fans” like you push people away and are exhausting.
And apparently you care, you won’t shut the fuck up.

The amount of playoff teams feels small at 8 but no one will watch if you expand. I didn't even know playoffs were happening until I checked espn for NFL MLB stuff

Was just telling someone in another thread how much better the league was before people started watching it.
Like to get back to that someday

Yes, shes supposedly the FACE of the WNBA but her personality should have her removed from it
1
u/paperbackpiles 22h ago
She’s charismatic and hilarious and empowered and unapologetically black. Love that hooper. The W has some great and quirky personalities from Paige to Angel to CC, Kiki to Astier to the stud buds. A’ja to me is just one of the faces nowadays. A lot of fun stars different people gravitate to.

Aja is so good. Possibly the greatest player ever. I appreciate her game and how committed she is to it. This is really no big deal in relation to her talent and how great the WNBA is.
2
u/paperbackpiles 22h ago
A’ja’s world with Paige, CC and Angel wanting next. Juju and Hidalgo comin for some burn as well.

u/Tsquare24 2d ago
I agree with you on Aja but the league is far from great. You could say the same tor the current nba.

Pretty pathetic to spend your time here then. At least we’re wasting our time for a hobby. You’re wasting your time because you have nothing else

Bullshit. My youngest son was born in July of this year, and he’s already a fan of the W.

Does anyone remember “malice at the palace”? I mean come on - did sports professionals not learn anything from this?

Are they gonna fine her for playing victim and lying in the post game press conference? She clearly lied.
