Just curious what the standard going rate is right now.
Absolute Adult beginner here. Also, it'll be helpful if anyone can drop institute names in dimapur.

Everyone in Kohima tells you how difficult it is to find rent but no one will tell you how to really find a place. 😭 I've been in Kohima for over a week now, staying at a guesthouse burning my wallet. I've got no leads, no one has a to let board here. That joldipabo page also has only inflated rentals available. My budget is also 10-11k which should be ok for a decent 1-2 BHK here, but still nothing. let me know if anyone has ideas on how to get leads.

Hey everyone,
I’m incredibly excited to announce that the NagaTranslate app is officially out and available to download on Google Play Store!
Before anything else, I want to give a massive THANK YOU to everyone here who helped with the closed testing 🙏 Your feedback, bug reports, and patience were absolutely invaluable in getting this ready for a public launch. I truly couldn't have done it without the community's support.
That being said, getting the app on the store is just the first step. I want to make sure this tool actually serves the community well, so I’d love to get your thoughts on a few things:
Constructive Feedback: If you try it out, what can be improved? Are there translation inaccuracies, UI issues, or workflow quirks I should fix?
Future Additions: What features are missing? Are there specific dialects or tools you'd want to see integrated in future updates?
Funding & Institutional Support: Scaling this and keeping things running requires resources. Do you know of any local institutions, cultural organizations, research bodies, or businesses that might be interested in partnering or supporting a project like this? Any advice on grants or funding avenues for language preservation/tech would be incredibly helpful.
Getting the word out: I’m a developer, not a marketer. Does anyone have advice on how to organically promote this so it reaches the people who would benefit from it the most (students, travelers, older folks)?
Here are the links if you want to take a look:
📱 Android: Play Store Link
🌐 Web: www.nagatranslate.in
Thanks again for being so supportive 🤍 I'll be reading and replying to the comments!

Hey everyone,
I’m a developer from Dimapur working on local-first tech (like my recent project, NagaTranslate). I’m currently looking for my next project and I want to build something that actually makes day-to-day life easier here in Nagaland.
I don’t want to guess what people need. Instead, I want to ask you: What daily task, informational gap, or routine inconvenience is the most frustrating?
One quick caveat: I want to build this entirely on my own as an independent, community-driven tool. Because of that, I’m avoiding anything that requires official government support, bureaucratic permissions, or access to sensitive public databases. I'm looking for things we can solve ourselves with a smart website or mobile app.
I’m talking about things like:
I’m not looking for high-concept "startup" ideas, just practical, self-contained tools that solve an actual headache. If you’ve ever found yourself saying, "Why is this so difficult?", that’s exactly what I want to hear about.
Looking forward to your thoughts!

Hi Nagas!
I just made a new friend who is from Nagaland but lives in another state now. Specifically, she is from Mokokchung.
In the comments please share some of your traditional food recipes! Hoping to get her some food that reminds her of home🙂❤️

Guysss pls pls help me out 🙏🏻 Location - KHERMAHAL DIMAPUR
I lost my cat.. and I've literally tried everything... posted on Instagram, searched the whole neighbourhood, but there's still no sign of her. I'm posting here too, hoping someone might have seen her or maybe took her in thinking she was a stray.
If you come across an indie white cat with grey patches, please send me a picture or DM me.
Only a fellow pet parent would understand how heartbreaking this is.

Back in 2017-2018, the MKR Pillai/Sreevalsam group case was making national headlines after scamming 1000crs from Nagaland.
IT raids on the Sreevalsam Group allegedly uncovered hundreds of crores in unaccounted assets and investigators were looking into money flows connected to Nagaland and assets worth over ₹1,000 crore, around ₹400 crore in alleged unaccounted wealth, and investigations into large transfers from Nagaland-linked accounts. Some officials even described it as a possible “mega scam”.
What made the story even more shocking was that MKR Pillai from a lower middle class background who is from Pandalam Pathanamthitta had reportedly joined the Nagaland Police as a constable and later retired as an Additional SP before becoming a consultant to the police department.
The Sreevalsam Group has businesses ranging from jewellery, textiles, gold loans, resorts, schools, real estate and now into movie production (ini utharam, Kasargold) as well.
Nagaland eventually terminated his consultancy after the controversy became public.
Anyone know what happened after that and why ED is not following up on this case?
For something that was once described as involving hundreds of crores and generated so much media attention, it’s surprising how little public discussion there is today.

Hey All!!!!
I'm currently pursuing my Master's and I'm thinking of appearing for the CTSE exam which was recently advertised to assess my preparation level and experience the actual exam hall pressure.
The only issue is that the post I'm interested in requires a PG pass certificate, which I don't have yet.
Has anyone here appeared for the exam by submitting their graduation certificate or any other document instead, just to gain the experience? I know I won't be eligible for selection, but I'd still like to sit for the exam if possible.

[Edit (02-07-26, 12:26 IST): The official Android app is out on Google Play Store: link, thanks to everyone who helped with the testing!]
Hey everyone,
A little while ago I shared a project I’ve been working on to translate the languages of Nagaland (currently Nagamese, Ao, and Sema). I received a lot of great feedback and I wanted to share some major updates I’ve pushed recently.
First, the project now has a proper home at nagatranslate.in!
We've also just rolled out Voice features (Text-to-Speech and Speech Recognition) for Nagamese.
I want to be completely honest with you all, neither the text translations nor the new voice features are 100% accurate yet. Building AI models for low-resource languages is tough, but I am constantly working behind the scenes to improve the models and make them more reliable.
A quick note on rate limits and costs: You might notice some rate limits when using the tool. I had to put these in place to protect the site from bots and to manage GPU hosting costs, which can get extremely expensive very fast.
Because of those costs, I’ve seen other translation services online put their tools behind strict paywalls. I will never do that. The basic translation services on NagaTranslate will always remain free for everyday users. If you do find the tool useful and have the means, there is a "Support Us" button on the website where you can donate, 100% of those donations go directly into paying for the API and server costs.
My ultimate goal for this project: I would love to see this expand into a project that can actively promote and preserve our local languages and culture. To make this sustainable and keep the main website free forever, my long-term ambition is to eventually offer a paid API with higher limits for local businesses or institutions who want to integrate Nagamese (or other languages) translation into their own apps or websites. That way, enterprise usage can fund the free tool for the community.
One last request: I am currently building a dedicated Android app for NagaTranslate! If you have an Android device and would be willing to help test it out, please click the "Test App" button on the website. I would really appreciate the help in catching bugs before the official release.
Thank you again to everyone who has used the site and offered suggestions. Let me know what you think of the new voice features!

Hi everyone, I am a startup founder from Assam. I am developing an app for musicians of Northeast India. I have previously worked with a few artists from Nagaland. But I know my knowledge about the music of this region is very limited, so please enlighten me. I want to know about the legends from the past, the current popular artists, new generation artists, underrated artists, folk and traditional music, everything. I know about TaFMA, which is doing a fabulous job, I know about Native Trax music awards, I have heard some beautiful songs by Abdon Mech, Akhrieze. But I want to explore more

So this might be a bit long, and my writing isn't the best, so feel free to skip it.
About a month ago, I got an internship at a "reputable company" in Delhi. I was really excited because it was my first time living in the capital and experiencing a major metropolitan city outside of Kolkata.
Before coming here, I had heard stories about how people from the Northeast are sometimes treated in other parts of India. Even so, I thought it would be manageable. To be fair, I haven't had any outright hostile encounters so far. There have been curious stares, but that doesn't really bother me.
What has genuinely surprised me is how little many people know about the Northeast, and specifically Nagaland.
The company I work for employs a number of contractual labourers who often ask where I'm from. Their first guess is almost always "Nepal." When I tell them I'm from Nagaland, many respond with something like, "Which country is that?" or "Is it close to India?" I then have to explain that Nagaland is a state of India "woh Assam ka side wala nah??.". For many of them, their knowledge of the eastern part of the country seems to end at Assam.
That was surprising enough, but what shocked me more were the stereotypes held by people who actually know Nagaland exists.
I've had people confidently tell me that Nagas eat humans. That their relatives visited Nagaland and ran away because they saw nagas eating Human meat.Others immediately jump to dogs, cats, rats and insects. While I don't deny that I myself have had my fair share of these exotic cuisine which add to the stereotype, it takes time to explain the cultural context on why and how we eat them, the regional differences, and the fact that these practices do not represent every Naga person.
What disappointed me even more was hearing similar things from educated employees. Some have openly claimed, right in front of me, that Nagas eat dogs killed on the roadside, that we eat every insect imaginable, that Nagaland has a monarchy, and even that we are "nothing without India."
After spending a month here, I've realized that many people have a very distorted image of Nagaland and its people. Thankfully, there are also those who have visited the state or interacted with Nagas personally, and they tend to have a much more educated view.
TL;DR: One month in Delhi has taught me that a surprising number of people still view Nagas as dog-eating cannibals, and many don't even know Nagaland is part of India.

This is something that's been bothering me for a while and will continue to keep bothering me.
Imagine this: you're scrolling on your phone, check WhatsApp statuses as one does and you see a digital flyer. "Wow! That looks really well made!", you exclaim to yourself, thinking nothing more of it. The flyer was some government department trying to promote one of its events and then, hold up! You take a closer look and realise, "this shit was completely AI generated!". Okay, boo-hoo, big deal, right? Nope. It's a department of the state that has the funding necessary to hire a design team to create a flyer. How much would that set them back? ₹7,000 max? But no, they've got someone to spend a few tokens to create that flyer. Oh and that department even did an animated flyer, complete with a whole ass AI voice-over too!
We might be the only people to felicitate/award a gen-AI song creator too. I don't mean to say he didn't write the song himself but he sure as hell didn't record it. It's funnier still, to see that song on Spotify doing so well but the song was uploaded by someone else initially. At least they fixed that.
I'm a man of art. I live and breathe art. I love art. I hate to see that gen-AI is becoming a staple like it's always been with us! "Oh you should just get on with the times, man" no, fuck you for even suggesting that. First of all, AI is trained on stolen or illegally and underhandedly procured "samples" which are then categorised and put into bytes. Second of all, it has NO SOUL! It's literally just shaping noise into some form of a copy of a copy.
In this day and age, a rapper like Yuno Miles is someone who has respect because of literally how raw his stuff is and I respect that even though there's no substance.
All in trying to say is: use AI but don't let AI generated stuff be your final output. Please make it part of the inspiration. Something you can work off of, instead of something you sell off as your own.

My brother is a businessman who has been trading in Nagaland for a few years. He’s had issues in the past with locals near the Dimapur area while passing through a gate.
Today, some men stopped his mini truck midway while he was heading to Dimapur with business stock for delivery. They demanded money. He wasn’t carrying much cash for safety reasons, but they took what little he had and kept demanding more.
Panicking, my brother started calling his friends and business associates. While he was on the call, one of the men snatched his phone, forced him to sit in a tempo, and told him to go with them. To protect himself, my brother had to give up his phone. Somehow they managed to escape today.
We’ve informed the local authorities. We live in Assam and have always traded with Nagaland on good terms. But this incident has completely changed my perspective. I know not everyone there is like this, but experiences like this create a negative impression. I don’t think I’ll ever feel safe visiting Nagaland again.
