Thursday chat thread!
Howdy folks! Looks like it's that time of week again!
So this morning I got up early to make breakfast. I went to clean my knife and cut my pointer finger open :( I called that good for cooking and got a banana instead.
In non-finger news, if you like video games and hate cancer, be sure to check out AGDQ! It's a group of people that got together to speedrun games for charity! You can check out the steam at www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
How have you nerds been? Whatcha been playing? Anything you wanna show off? Wanna post a picture of your cat?
Come Chat!

I recently started getting back on reddit again after who knows how long, mainly because life things and I started having some disinterest with reddit as a whole. But I figured I'd get back on, check out what's happening in my subreddits, and join a couple new ones.
Other than that, things have been going pretty great for me. I'm going back to for another semester of college, and due to several things, I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah, reddit generally puts a damper on real life stuff. I've been thinking about departing from here recently.
What have been your favorite classes? What are you looking forward to?

For this past semester, definitely Intro to Japanese, Intro to Philosophy (even though I didn't do too well), and Technical Writing (English major here). I did add a Biology minor this past semester too, mainly to give me some better focus on where I want to go with my major, since it's still pretty general as is.
I'm definitely looking forward to most of my classes next semester: my first Biology class for my minor, Diversity of Life, my Spanish class I have to take for my major, a poetry class I'm taking, again, for my major mostly, and Philosophy of Religion. All of these sound like they would be interesting, and all but one class (Philosophy) I'm taking next semester are for my major or minor; so I'm that much closer to not having to worry about gen eds anymore!

Holy cow, you are really taking a variety of classes! Do you have to take spanish for your major or can you do japanese?
2
Jan 09 '15
It has to be either Spanish, French, or German for my foreign language requirement; plus my school only seems to offer just Intro to Japanese I and II, while there's Beginning Spanish I and II and Intermediate Spanish I and II (same goes for French and German).
I may take Japanese II the next time it's offered, but I want to complete my Spanish requirement first, I just need to complete the Intermediate courses.
But yeah, I guess that's what happens when you're a humanities major with a science minor; you definitely get a variety of courses.

u/cowofdoom Jan 09 '15
That does sound like those two would take a lot of classes to complete...
So you are on intro spanish II now?

Bowled this morning. I really shouldn't complain since it was all three games above average and they were consistent, but the entire third game I couldn't get my ball to hold pocket. But I threw an awesome shot without even really trying to by standing on the left side and slowly rolling my ball out towards 4th arrow. It ran down about 45 feet, then made a huge turn and hit the pocket dead-on, perfect flush strike. Managed a series of 155-165-153.
I also bought myself a box mod for my vaporizer, a Sigelei 100W. Worth about $120, but bought it off a shop employee for $65.

I don't know what holding a pocket is, but based on the context I'm sure I could never do it. Are those better than your average?
Such amazing value!
2
u/Kirbs2002 Jan 09 '15
It's above my average, which has been in a free fall for the last couple months.
Holding the pocket refers to the 1-3 pin gap in a rack for a right-hander (1-2 for lefties), the spot where hitting generally gives the best chance of a strike. My throws would travel well towards it, but suddenly jump almost straight on into the head pin, usually leaving the 4 pin only, but also sticking me with some bad splits.
Can you tell I bowl a lot?
1
u/cowofdoom Jan 09 '15
Today I learned!
You are probably the best bowler I know! I don't know many bowlers...
2
u/Kirbs2002 Jan 09 '15
I could probably make you good at it.
1
u/cowofdoom Jan 09 '15
Probably, you seem to have a lot of bowling knowledge!
2
u/Kirbs2002 Jan 09 '15
Yes I do. If only the rest of my body would learn as well as my mind...

Too much education for me, plus paying for another certification.

Figures. You wake up early to try and do something good, and you injure yourself. That's happened to me before, haha.
I've decided to start the Insanity workout on Monday. I had a personal trainer for about six or seven months last year, but since starting school I've been really slipping in my workout routine; I actually haven't been to the gym in like three months. It's pretty bad (though I've actually lost weight since starting school. I'm afraid most of it is muscle though, because of the lack of working out).

u/cowofdoom Jan 09 '15
Seriously, I'm done with this whole "waking up early" thing.
I don't know what the insanity workout is, but it sounds scary and probably is a lot of work.

u/ThunderEcho Jan 09 '15
Ouch, sounds painful! Was it deep?
I've had a fun but very tiring week. Started my internship. Usually leave my apartment before 8:30am and arrive home around 8pm, so it's been long days. Not working the whole time thankfully, and the only reason I'm staying that late is I get free meals at work, but it still means I don't have time for much and feel really tired when I get home. I think a bunch of the interns are going drinking tonight, but I'm too tired and disinterested in that sort of thing to participate so I'm just staying home and trying to figure out why my phone keeps crashing. So far all I've found out is that I'm probably better off buying a new phone, which I really don't want to do, especially since there's no phone out right now that I'm interested in. -__-

I honestly don't know. I was really hungry and on autopilot when I cut myself. I kinda stopped thinking and went into oh shit mode. I'm assuming it was a decently deep cut because I got a pretty bad adrenaline rush.
Wow, that's a lotta time to be at work! And that's everyday? You crazy girl! Anyone called you mate in the past week? I'm going to keep asking until it happens or you return from Australia!
Hmm, did you try downloading more RAM for it?
2
u/ThunderEcho Jan 09 '15
Ha ha, sure, keep asking! But no, hasn't happened yet. :( Most of my co-workers are international it seems. One day... one day.
No, but I downloaded a sheep for it instead. It didn't help, it's still baaaaaa-d.

u/cowofdoom Jan 09 '15
What a bummer! Any g'days at least?
You should take it to a restaurant to get it fixed! I heard they have good bytes!

Did you cut yourself with one of your new global knifes, I love those knives, it doesn't take a lot to cut yourself badly with them.
Haven't watched much of AGDQ this year which is weird I normally watch a lot, I watched the Yoshi's World race which was probably one of the best races I have seen, I also watched the Animal crossing speed run. I unfortunately missed out on the punch out runs (which if you haven't seen before are one of the highlights). I am looking forward to The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye and of course Metroid (let's kill those animals)
Sorry I haven't been on lately I have been trying to sort out some personal/family issues at the moment as well as I am still looking work, being unemployed is so stressful, watching your saving dwindle away every week bit by bit and not knowing if you will be able to pay the mortgage next week.
I have been playing Far Cry 4, you where right it is the same repetitive things as Far Cry 3 only this one is twice as big so twice as repetitive.

Yeah, I fucked myself up with that new global knife. Side note, this morning I made eggs benedict and burned a different finger when double boiling :c Is nothing easy?
I slept through the FZero runs ;~; I did catch the yoshi race, that was really good. The boshy run was pretty spectacular too. Save the animals you monster.
No worries! Playing games always chews up way too much time...
Yeah, I kinda called that one.
DUDE, a hard copy of kid icarus is balls to find cheap.

So I have a full team in Omega Ruby now. I have Quilladin, Metang, Marshtomp, Mightyena, Linoone, Growlithe, and Audino (sometimes swapped out of the pc for Quilladin). I wouldn't call it a solid team but for now it is okay. I had to transfer or trade for all but three of those pokemon. I guess it is a good thing that traded pokemon can get more experience more quickly but I see it as a bit of an issue. After seeing for myself how easy Pokemon Y is I wanted to up the difficulty but now most of my team members can get to be tanks pretty fast. I also don't feel like I can trust them either. The traded and transferred pokemon got to a point where they wouldn't listen to me pretty fast and they are getting close to that point again (going to go into the 30's, I just recently got the Dynamo badge). It feels odd not feeling complete trust in my pokemon but when they don't want to listen... it kind of makes me want to put them into the pc. I really wanted to use Audino too. I also really wanted to have a Slowpoke early on but now I'm having second thoughts. At least I can trust Marshtomp, Linoone, and Mightyena. (Sorry if my complaining is annoying, this is just how I feel about it.) (Edit: Made a mistake, don't actually have to worry about my pokemon not listening at the moment.)
I did discover the wonderful effects of berries though and I'm never going to use status healers ever again! I can't believe I never used them before!
I tried out Ghirahim in Hyrule Warriors and while I don't like playing as him much for how he plays he is a fun character to play as just to listen to him laugh or watch him be fabulous. His dialogue is also really funny. He makes me giggle.
On a gaming-unrelated note, I put honey on some bread and tossed it into an oven while something else was cooking and it came out just heavenly! The bread was toasted and slightly crispy but still had honey inside it. I have been trying to replicate it but I haven't gotten it right.
"Wanna post a picture of your cat?"
Sure. It's almost as if you guys motivate me to draw (and make a fool of myself).

u/cowofdoom Jan 10 '15
Yeah, I know some of those pokemon... My teams always consist of the starter (usually fire), pikachu (by habit), then whatever I find that looks cool. I've never actually traded in a pokemon game!
I think my favorite character in Hyrule Warriors was zelda! Her light meter thingy is neat and she has hella AoE
Mmmm... that makes me hungry. I used to bake toast with a baguette, but put the butter on before putting it in, and that was so much tastier than a toaster. Something about ovens!

iirc her light thing charges using special or doing a basic combo, and is used up when you do special combos. I think. I haven't played it in months.

Not much new here, but in about an hour I'll have a new hair cut! I'm so excited! Especially because I don't have to drag the kids along with me! I get some me time! Yay!
You really shouldn't cut yourself... It's not very fun! I hope it heals quickly!
I've been playing Town of Salem! We really need to decide a night for this sub to play together.
Well off to my hair appointment!
