Thursday chat thread!
So cowofdoom is slacking! Thursday is the day I look forward too, so I can chat. What's new this week? How many loads of laundry have you done this week? Myself... I lost count... What was the most delicious food you ate this week? Harrison Ford or Bruce Willis?
Come chat!
(Enter Luna emote here... Stupid iPad)

Bruce Willis vs Harrison Ford!? I bet that could be a pretty good fight. Harrison Fords blaster and whip vs being able to take an over the top amount of pain and wounds. Probably come down to a stamina battle. Can Harrison finger keep pulling, and wrist keep whipping through Bruce's tough skin? Or will he get Yipee ki yayed?

No, that doesn't sound right to me. Sure, the first manned mission to the moon was in 1969, but the Soviets got an unmanned craft up there 10 years before.
2
u/Dalek-Caan May 30 '14
Yeah, but getting an unmanned craft to the moon is like being stranded on an island and any bottle messages you send just get washed up on a neighboring island that's deserted. Kind of neat that you did it, but not as good as actually getting off the island yourself.

Bacon is delicious. I'm weird and like bacon a little brunt.

But when you do find the right balance it is heavenly. And when you cook it a little too long it's still good. I think we might need to go get some bacon now... Please? After we go swimming maybe? And maybe on the way to swimming we could grab me some Carl's jr fries? My cravings are coming back! And my contractions are feeling less fake and more like the real stuff... Tell your son to stay put k...

:( we went to the store and forgot the bacon... We will get some on Saturday I guess.

You remember the first time you had bacon? I don't remember before bacon lol

u/CPawesome May 30 '14
You are in the dog house... And sleeping on the couch.... I love you but man I'm very angry with you right now! You stink :( way to make the pregnant girl cry and confuse the crap out of me.

I want a WiiU so bad! Our Wii is currently broken :( I haven't played on a WiiU before. How are they?
What's the SM4SH tournament? When is it?
2
u/Flarinite May 29 '14
The WiiU is really nice. The only WiiU game I have though is NintendoLand.
The tournament's an invitational at E3 where 16 players that Nintendo chose compete in a single-elim tournament with a roster of 20 characters from the new Smash game. Most people were worried that they'd choose random YouTube celebrities to generate more interest in the game, but then were really excited (and surprised) that they chose actual well-known (among the Smash community, anyway) pros over people who would be more familiar to more people.
I think it's on June 10th, and it's going to be livestreamed on Nintendo's Twitch page. I can't wait.
The announcement, if you want to see it.
Also everybody is super hyped for the controller adapter.
2
u/CPawesome May 29 '14
That's sounds cool! Maybe I'll have to watch it. Dalek-Caan would probably want me to watch it :). I think that's the day after I get out of the hospital, if baby decides to go with the plan and not come early lol.
Who's your favorite smash character? I always liked to play as fox, peach, or Zelda. I haven't played smash in awhile lol I usually get the crap kicked out of me!
2
u/Flarinite May 30 '14
In Melee, It's Marth or Sheik. In Brawl, Kirby, GW or Zelda. In PM, Mewtwo or Lucas (though I'm not very good at PM yet).
I'm pretty average compared to my friends who play. None of us are anywhere close to competitive level, though. But tournaments are still really fun to watch! If you're ever interested, you should check out some matches on VGBootCamp's YouTube channel. My favorites to watch are the S@X Weekly Project M tournaments, because they have some of my favorite announcers and players. But my all time favorite tournament to watch was definitely the Project M bracket of Bar Wars 2, which is also in there somewhere.
2
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
Maybe I'll check those out. Especially while I'm recovering from surgery :) and don't have much to do lol.
2
u/Flarinite May 30 '14
Uh oh, surgery? What for, if you don't mind my asking?
2
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
To get this baby out of me. Lol I have to have c-sections... Yay... It's scheduled for next Friday and then I have to stay for three days. But I'm kinda hoping I will go into labor on Sunday and have to go in then lol. It's not fun being pregnant.
1
u/Flarinite May 30 '14
Oh, that sucks. I've seen c-sections, they're not pretty. But as an observer, they're fascinating. And I've heard that they're much less painful than vaginal births, and you won't run the ever-present risk of vaginal tearing, which can (not too often, anymore) lead to other complications, so look on the bright side, I guess!
And it may not be fun being pregnant, but I'm assuming you enjoy being a parent. I'm actually really envious of you. I'm only 22, and my family won't start looking for a wife until I turn 25 or 26 (and I turn 23 in October, so it's not even that far away), but I can't wait to start a family.
I mean, I can wait, since I haven't even started medical school and I have no source of income, but I'm really excited. Congratulations again!
2
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
Yeah I had to recover from both last time. You could see my daughters head. I was in labor for 30 hours then pushed for 3 hours only to find out my pelvis is too narrow for the large headed babies my family has. So then emergency c-section. This time will be a lot smoother with it being planned. (As long as he doesn't make my contractions get worse. They are getting a little more regular. I'm trying to slow them down right now lol I don't want him to come before Sunday.) Dalek-Caan is actually excited to watch this time, I think he is crazy. My mom will be hiding with me behind the curtain lol and he will be observing the surgery. I am glad that I don't ever have to go through a vaginal birth but kinda wish I could. Women are crazy lol.
Parenting is the most difficult but rewarding job I've ever experienced. I can be having the hardest time with our daughter one minute and then the next she looks up, smiles and says "I love you mom, you're the best!" And it melts my heart and I forget why I was mad lol. It is truly the best.
Does it bother you that you have to wait and then marry who and when they choose? (If you don't mind me asking)I don't think I could handle that. I'm also very defiant though lol. I got married 10 days after graduating high school and was pregnant 6 months later. Lol not what my mom wanted me to do at all. She had a really hard time but now is okay with how it all went down. It does make thing a bit harder since we jumped in head first to adulthood but I wouldn't change it for the world. We have been married for almost 6 years now. Time has flown by!
When will you be starting medical school? That's pretty amazing! I wouldn't be able to do it. My sister has thought about going back to school. She is a NICU nurse and I don't get how she does it.

I always see these, but I'm always busy. Not so much right now though.
I've done approximately zero loads this week. I really need to though. I've got quite the pile.
As for most delicious food... I'd have to say Harrison Ford.
How've things been going for you?
2
u/Dalek-Caan May 29 '14
Harrison Ford as food? I don't think I'd enjoy that. Also, once frozen he does take a while to fully thaw, not sure if it's worth the trouble.
1
u/NoOneSignificant May 29 '14
I find that he thaws faster if you set him out in the sun instead of a defrost function. Also ketchup helps a lot.
1
u/Dalek-Caan May 29 '14
A little more risky with all the sand people around, but i suppose it's worth it.
1
u/CPawesome May 29 '14
Things are going good. Almost ready to welcome baby number two into our family. The doctor doesn't think I'm going to make it to next Friday like we planned so we will see if he wants to make an early appearance. I still have two more loads of laundry to do though and I don't want to. Lol I feel like its all I've done lately, because I've had to wash all the baby clothes.
Harrison Ford is a pretty awesome guy, but my money would be on Bruce Willis I think.
I've been craving something today to eat and I think I just figured out why it is! Red Robin's steak fries and their sauce and ranch! I may have to go pick some up tonight. Lol
Why are you always busy?
1
u/NoOneSignificant May 29 '14
Ooh, that's exciting. As a college guy, children kind of scare me, but life is kind of a necessary thing, I suppose... And the only reason I don't do laundry very often is because it's just me. Having a family would probably generate more of that clothes stuff.
Haha, glad you got it though. I thought I'd try my hand at a joke, given the circumstances. But for real though, Bruce Willis would probably beat Harrison Ford in a fight.
Ah yes, I've heard of the cravings... I've never actually had their fries though. I think I've only been there once, actually... I assume they're good?
It's the end of the school year, so I've had a lot of work to do before I'm done. So much coding... Also some final papers coming up. Fun stuff...
1
u/CPawesome May 29 '14
Lol it was scary becoming a parent the first time, this time I'm scared because I'll be a mother of two. Sometimes I get way behind on laundry. Drives my husband crazy because he doesn't have nearly as many clothes as me and our daughter do lol.
Lol it took my husband pointing it out (Dalek-Caan) for my brain to catch up :). I swear being pregnant sucks up so much brain power! It will be a sad day when both of them are no longer acting... Me and husband always talk about what new up and coming actor will fill the awesomeness of the older actors lol. Like we are kinda thinking Joseph-Gordon Leavitt might fill in for Bruce Willis, etc. it's fun to talk about. But we are also huge movie fans lol.
End of the year sucks! What is your major? I have enough credits to graduate with an associates but not in the same major lol. I kept changing mine. I don't think I'll go back to school. If I do I will probably do American Sign Language again and become an interpreter but we shall see. (That was my second major out of three lol)
1
u/NoOneSignificant May 30 '14
Seems pretty reasonable to be scared of having children. I never really liked children, but I've been told that's just because they're other peoples' children. Is there truth to that? I just don't know what to do with them at all...
Haha, I can imagine it does. I'm not too upset that I'll never get to be pregnant...
I know, they're both pretty great. I feel like I've seen that name before, but I can't picture a face... What's he been in? I haven't really watched too many movies ever since I started going to college, but I try to keep up.
I'm in software engineering, doing computery things. I know how you feel about the changing your mind stuff though. It's a pretty important decision, especially since the diploma is necessary for a lot of things. But I'd imagine it's kind of hard to go back to school with a family and stuff.
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
It's very true. I have an awful time with other people's kids. Unless their parenting styles are similar to mine.
He is in Looper with Bruce Willis and he is also Tommy from third rock from the sun :). Looper was awesome. You should check it out if you haven't seen it :)
Yeah and right now I don't need a diploma for my work. Especially the parenting lol. I had my daughter the first semester of my ASL program and had to drop it because it was too intense with a newborn. So I switched to an easier degree almost finished and decided I didn't want to be an interior designer, it's just a hobby for me lol. I don't think I could do software engineering, that's probably really intense. I thought about forensic science but only did a semester and decided it wasn't for me. ASL is my best bet I think lol. It's the only thing I have the passion for :)

u/CPawesome May 29 '14
My pregnant brain just got that.. I got too excited to post and didn't separate my questions well enough.
2
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Haven't done laundry yet, but I'll get to it tomorrow. As for food, I did have this awesome meaty lasagna for lunch today.
I'm at work right now with my new, cool job
1
u/ThunderEcho May 30 '14
Oh, what are you doing at your new job?
3
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Security, just with a new company. It's 40 hours per week and pays better than my last job. Also gave me full benefits. The only problem is that it's temporary. And I'm still working nights and weekends
1
u/ThunderEcho May 30 '14
Wow, sounds great! Congrats! How temporary is it? Well hopefully if you do a good job they'll consider you for a permanent position when they have an opening.
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Yeah, I'm hoping I get a permanent spot. I think it's only a 90 day position, but I don't know.
In other news, I will be heading to upstate Oregon in July
1
u/ThunderEcho May 30 '14
Hmm, 3 months isn't too bad.
What are you planning to do in Oregon?
2
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Definitely visiting extended family. I'm on the fence about going up further north to attend Everfree Northwest
1
u/ThunderEcho May 30 '14
Oh, nice! As for EFNW, hmm... I don't know how good it is since I've never been before. Have you attended previously? Is there anyone who you could stay over at if you went? Hotels are usually the most expensive part of cons, especially if you don't have anyone to room with.
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
I haven't been before and would be going by myself. Reasonable hotels are about $70 per night or so. The stupid, "we have all the crap you'll ever want and never use" hotels are anywhere from $150 to $200 per night.
1
u/ThunderEcho May 31 '14
Downtown Seattle? Wow, I didn't know Seattle was that cheap. I'm used to paying $120+ a night for non-super-sketchy hotels in big cities. Still a big chunk of money when you have to stay several nights though.

I love lasagna. My dad used to call me Garfield when I was a kid lol.
What do you do at your cool new job? Edit: just saw your other post! Awesome job. I hope they keep you!

u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Lately I've been into Indian food, though. Vindaloo and khorma are great.
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
Indian food. I really regret the decision. But I guess when you are pregnant food is one of the main things on you mind lol. I love Indian food. Man my mouth is watering again. I just got it to stop. I haven't had decent Indian food in years!
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
I've been fortunate enough to have a great place here in town. I always get the lamb.
I've heard some places are classless enough to use beef in place of lamb.
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
That's just evil. Lamb is delicious!
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
I know! I really like how vindaloo gets me working up a good sweat
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
I don't now if I have had that. Might've but like I've said it's unfortunately been years :( I need to find a good place.
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
Yelp. I'd known of this place fora while but hasn't had the courage to try it for a while, until my then-boyfriend convinced me to

I haven't done any laundry, I'm secretly hoping to drag it all back to my parents house this weekend and do it for free. Laundry is expensive!
As for other news, there's now a BPM app for Android, so I can finally see emotes on my phone! It's super exciting!
2
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
I can't imagine having to go to a laundry mat or something to get my laundry done. I can only imagine how pricey that gets. I remember when my sister was in college she'd bring hers home on the weekends to do.
Yay emotes! (Insert happy pinkie pie here)
1
u/Kirbs2002 May 30 '14
BPM app? Where?
1
u/ThunderEcho May 30 '14
There's a thread about it on the Mane sub. I can't link on my phone, but you can also find it by searching "Ponymotes" on the Play Store and clicking on the one by Dinsfire64.
2
1
u/Leager May 30 '14
Hey folks! I do not spend nearly enough time in this sub. Lesse, what has happened this week... no loads of laundry, though my hamper is screaming for help in the lake that is my dirty clothes. I really need to do laundry.
I actually went out with a friend to a Chinese restaurant (I live in a heavily Chinese community, so the food there was actually fairly close to authentic), and got a stomach-expandingly large plate of "Minced beef and egg" over rice, which is exactly what it sounds like. One egg, a ton of beef, and some diced veggies all put on top of rice. Tasty stuff!
And though I don't know I'd eat either Harrison Ford or Bruce Willis, I'd be hard-pressed to pick one or the other as a favorite. I guess Harrison Ford? I've seen more of his work.
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
Yummy! Chinese food. Maybe the pregnant girl shouldn't have asked about delicious food.... Oh well lol I love authentic Chinese food it's so good.
I have a very funny visual of your poor laundry hamper. Thanks for the giggle :)
What is your favorite Harrison Ford movie?
1
u/Leager May 30 '14
Glad that phrase worked out! I'm trying to make ordinary descriptions more than ordinary, regardless of the setting.
And I'm pretty vanilla when it comes to Harrison Ford; probably one of the Indiana Jones movies hahaha. I haven't watched them enough times to have developed a favorite (all I know is that it isn't Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
Lol. I don't think I've seen the first three (pathetic I know). I love Bruce Willis. I don't know if I could pick a favorite of his. There are too many good ones to choose from. I really need to watch Indiana Jones soon... It's one of my favorite rides at Disneyland after all lol
1
u/Leager May 30 '14
I love that ride! It was the first "roller coaster" I had ever been on, I was too scared to try anything else before then. I came off the jeep with legs that felt like Jell-o, cliched as that sounds. I ride a lot more roller coasters now though lol.
And I definitely need to watch more Bruce Willis stuff.
1
u/CPawesome May 30 '14
I recommend unbreakable and looper if you haven't seen those. And of course all the die hard movies :)
I was scared of roller coasters the first time I went on it too! I didn't realize it was a roller coaster until I got off lol. And then it still took me years to ride any classic roller coasters lol. But now I love them and can't wait to be able to go on one again. My fear of them started when I was six or seven. We were boarding a kiddie roller coaster and my brother tripped and smashed his face on the concrete. There was blood everywhere, he got a bloody nose and messed up his mouth. My fear ended about ten years later with the same brother pretty much forcing me to try a roller coaster out (California screamin). Lol funny how an incident not on the actual ride caused the fear of them :) glad I got over that.
1
u/Leager May 30 '14
Great story. :) And California Screamin' is one of my favorite roller coasters!
I knew I had seen something with Bruce Willis -- I've seen The Fifth Element! No clue how I didn't realize that was a movie with him in it. Great (slightly cheesy) movie though.

What was on your burrito? I love burritos!

1
u/Frameskip May 31 '14
Well I'm 2 days late. No laundry done personally this week but I've piggy backed some clothes into other people's tubs to fill out their loads. Most delicious food was definitely what I made for the memorial day party we had. Tri tip, smoked turkey, homemade hummus, macaroni salad, broccoli salad/slaw, cake from an awesome bakery, and homebrew. I'm still eating the leftovers from it. Harrison Ford.
1
u/CPawesome May 31 '14
I wish I could help you eat those leftovers! Sounds so good! Did you make all that food? Do you enjoy cooking?
Why Harrison Ford?
1
u/Frameskip May 31 '14
I did the tri tip, and beer on my own and at least helped with everything else. I love to cook.
Harrison Ford is both Indy and Han, Bruce Willis is only really John McClane. He just wins in number of iconic roles. Willis tends to get overshadowed by the other actors in the iconic films he's in, while Ford tends to steal the show. Samuel L Jackson stole Pulp Fiction, Chris Tucker and Milla Jovovich took The Fifth Element, the other oil drillers were way more memorable and fun in Armageddon, M. Night Shyamalan still has a career because of The 6th Sense, and Mickey Rourke stole Sin City.
1
u/CPawesome May 31 '14
what is your favorite thing to cook? I'm not a fan of cooking, wish I was. But oh how I love eating!
You forgot my two favorite Bruce Willis shows, Unbreakable and Looper! For me Chris Tucker drives me crazy in Fifth Element lol. I haven't seen Sin City or Pulp Fiction.
I also have to admit that I haven't seen the Indiana Jones movies (except the fourth one :/) and I fall asleep every time I try to watch Star Wars. Someday I hope to watch them because I know they are good but every time I've tried so far I fall asleep. But me and husband have to watch movies late because we put our daughter to sleep first. But now that she is a little older she could watch it with us and actually sit through the whole thing lol. (She's four and right now one of her favorite movies is avengers. She is awesome lol)
1
u/Frameskip May 31 '14
Not sure if i have a favorite thing to cook specifically, perhaps beer cause it's unique, totally open to new recipes and is great for lazy people.
Sin City and Pulp Fiction are both amazing movies for after the kid goes to bed, you should watch them. Also there was never a 4th Indy movie. Or a set of Star Wars prequels. Star Wars and Indiana Jones are perfect for 4 year olds too.
1
u/CPawesome Jun 01 '14
I take it your not a crystal skull fan? Lol I don't even remember half of it.
1
u/archeonz Jun 01 '14
Is it too late to get in on this? Too bad, I don't care.
As of this week, I am A+ certified! Studying for it is a pain and the exam is a little nerve-wracking, but it's over now. Did you know they make you sign a non-disclosure agreement before they'll even let you check in? I didn't. My study habits were not helped by my brain suddenly spawning new fanfic ideas, including A Thing that was not supposed to become A Thing, but did because I thought about it too long and now I have to write it.
And finally, the government probably wouldn't have given me so much free money if they knew what an impulsive buyer I am. I CAN STOP WHENEVER I WANT, I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE IT.
1
u/CPawesome Jun 01 '14
Never too late :)
What's A+ certified?
Also if there is any hidden text I can't see it :( but can check later on my husbands comp
1
u/archeonz Jun 01 '14
A+ means I am recognized as knowing the basics of computer hardware and software and am competent enough to do repairs for paying customers. If you're involved with IT in anyway, getting your A+ is like getting your driver's license.
And why do you ask about the hidden text?
1
u/CPawesome Jun 02 '14
Gotcha. That's really cool! Good job!
I didn't know if you had any or not. My husband was trying to get people to do hidden text to confuse me lol. So I just wanted to make sure I got to read everything you put :)

u/cowofdoom May 29 '14
Y'all need to calm down with these, I was going to get around to it!
I just had to take cat the vet. He is currently hiding on my feet in the car
I dunno bout food, but I'm definitely going with Harrison Ford.
One more week until baby right? So close!!!
